Halo 4 Sniper Rifle "Looks Like A Tank"

Remember when you first sniped a grunt in Halo: Combat Evolved? Felt good, right? Well, the fan favourite is back for Halo 4. But has anything changed?

Well, it still has four rounds per clip, it still has x2 zoom and it's still one super powerful headshot machine. The only difference is it now looks like a tank!

It does obscure view a lot when your not scoped in, levels the playing field a little for those pesky no-scopers lol.

eh... i don't like it. not a huge fan of that scope. i don't mind the sound but i don't think they "beefed" it up, it sounds completely different.

I love it. I've always liked Halo, but too many guns just feel like they're toys designed by Fisher Price and they just lacked a certain punch. It's nice to see a focus on some beefier weapons.

I'll miss the visor, as it always made the Halo sniper rifle feel iconic, and scoped view looks a little too busy, but the heft and sound of the weapon is nice.

I think I can deal with the exterior look, even though it looks as if there's an old nintendo with wires on the top, but I hope 343i removes those two arcs that are fixed around the reticule when you're scoped in. They seem a little extraneous and distracting.

Why? just why did they make it so that you can't move after the game ends? That was one of the subtle things that made Halo...Halo. Removing such a thing takes away the fun of celebrating by shooting each other and throwing grenades everywhere after you win the game. I hope they bring it back in the final version.

As for the Sniper Rifle, by far it is the worst looking gun they showed for Halo 4 and its sound is atrocious. I really hope they fix these things.

You're probably right. Josh Holmes - creative director at 343 Industries - has said tweaks and modifications will be made to the game right up until its release date.

There's a lot of realistic gun sounds in many new FPS these days, but it seems like none have achieved the echoing sound produced from a long distance when the gun fire sound travels there.

I think it would be cool if you could put a bipod on the Sniper Rifle, prone and shoot from an elevated position.

Dont like that motion bloom they added in reach, dont like how its still there because that gave people with bad latency such an advantage because you could watch it back on the replay and see you took their shields down and they took 2 shots to the head, blood coming out and everything and nothing.

The bloom made the latency issue even more annoying.

Maybe it's just me but does the Sniper Rifle sound silenced? I feel like it doesn't have that deafening roar it had from previous games

Anyways glad to see the Sniper back though I can't say I'm a big fan of the new scope. The whole night vision scope from previous games is pretty iconic, so I'm a bit bummed they changed how it looks.

That's why I love Halo's sniper. 2 body shots to kill, or one headshot. And they're augmented super soldiers in super advanced armor, they can shrug off 1 body shot, but head shots are a universal language.

As a huge fan of Bungie, I think you're right. They knew they were losing that drive to create Halo, and this they moved on. 343 will have the fresh approach and wide eyes to create Halo like Bungie once did.

I have been a huge Halo fan since the launch of the first halo over 10 years ago. I have read countless Halo novels and an active member on the bungie.net forums.

Here are my thoughts on 343i's attempt at creating the sniper for halo 4:

The firing sound is okay, i would like to hear the sound linger in the air a bit longer after you fire but i do like the deeper and "beefier" firing sound.

the scope on the rifle is HORRENDOUS! this is easily the ugliest halo sniper of them all! how could you mess it up?!

The sniper fires too slow. What made the sniper so much fun in halo 1 - 3 was how quickly you could fire snipes. halo reach halo a slower, clunkier sniper and it lost the feel of what the halo sniper was, and it looks like halo 4 is following in that same misdirection.

also the markings near the ridicule are unnecessary and are distracting as well as the bloom when reloading.

PLEASE FIX THESE 353i! the sniper is such a key component to what makes halo feel like halo and if you make such drastic changes to it...you have lost that feel, bro. haha...but really :)

Didn't Halo 1 have a slow sniper? Halo 2 probably had the fastest, but due to that most people just went for two body shots not a headshot. Halo 3 slowed it down, and Reach slowed it down a bit more.

id say the halo 1 and 2 sniper are pretty similar; halo 2's may be a bit faster. in my opinion, fast ROF on snipers felt very halo-y.

Off subject, but did anyone notice the impressive details on the gloves of the spartan alone. I am surprised that no one has been talking much about the new detailed looks for the spartan's suit gear. Back on subject, the sniper rifle looks beefy and the punch it delivers looks very satisfying. :)

Im glad they made it more this way... looks like it won't be so easy to no scope,etc.. This rifle looks like it'll seperate the men from the boys when it comes to sniping!

I suck at sniping but I hate when people can play DM rounds without ever using a scope and getting tremendous amount of kills, it cheapens the game!
