Wii Likely To Go Downhill From Here?

Independent technology research and consulting firm the Yankee group thinks the only way is down for the Nintendo Wii. They admit that the Wii is widely selling, but no one is actually playing games on it. Sooner or later third-party publishers will abandon the Wii, or at least start focusing more on the other platforms. When the price of other consoles come down, they believe more gamers will move in their direction.

The console is still selling out and Nitendo is making money on both Wii and DS. Nintendo isn't going to let the Wii fail just because they have lose with the gamecube and the N64, so they have the best opportunity to come atleast 2nd in this generation and probably 1st. They're making money therefore they have the power to buy key 3rd party exclusives. And it isn't until summer at the earliest until the Wii meets demand. And it's also cheaper to develop for the Wii, so that when the install base of the Wii is twice the install base of the 360 it won't even matter because there's so many Wiis out that a game is bound to sell just fine.

Buy Key 3rd Party Exclusives? So what the hell is nintendo going to do. Walk up to Epic games and say "hey make the game on our Wii platform. Instead of using the right analog stick, just use the wii-mote! You can also make cutting-edge 480p graphics! oh, and yeah true. people don't buy 3rd party games. But we'll make you a first party developer and you can make Gears of Wars III for us! But please leave out any blood, any monsters, and any guns. Our system is for families"

FACT: Wii is a FAD.

FACT: 360 and PS3 are the consoles to buy.

FACT: True Hardcore gamers likes "Next-Gen" Graphics. (Why else would there be so many graphic comparisons if they didn't care)

FACT: HDTV's dropping in price, People are buying them, people want HD video gaming to go with it

"people don't buy 3rd party games."

Sure they do. People are buying 1/3 more third party games for the Wii than they are for the PS3.

"But please leave out any blood, any monsters, and any guns. Our system is for families"

You're welcome to put as much blood and gore as you want to into Wii games. Witness Manhunt 2.

"FACT: Wii is a FAD."

One that shows no sign of slowing down.

"FACT: 360 and PS3 are the consoles to buy."

According to you. If people agreed with you, though, the PS3 and 360 would be outselling the WII

"FACT: True Hardcore gamers likes "Next-Gen" Graphics."

That's true, but casual gamers seem to be quite satisfied with the Wii. Many hardcore gamers pick up a Wii as a diversion as well.

"FACT: HDTV's dropping in price, People are buying them, people want HD video gaming to go with it"

True, but it's also a fact that half of all people with HDTVs don't even have an HD source connected. People either don't care or don't realize there's even another option.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 will do well for the reasons you mentioned, but the Wii isn't going to fade away. See my post below for my argument on that fact.

The Wii will continue to be a force for nintendo. But now in the way you all are judging it. The next gen in my opinion is between the 360 and PS3. The Wii is more of a family system as we all know. Which means they will continue to dominate that market place. (they always have) and i think this is what nintendo intended all along for the Wii.
I personally think Nintendo has a new console up its sleeve in the next year or two once the HD War has shown the standards in both movie format and picture. Time will tell

midgard2293535d ago

besides smash bros i dont know whats coming out thats good, *shrugs the casual gamers and parents will keep the system alive for another year tho

DaTrooF3535d ago

no..it still has some life left in it....and Nintendo has some tricks left.

i think once the demand for the wii goes down, they will release Wii's with different colors(maybe a price cut to go with it)so more people will buy it.It worked well for the PS2...my friend had a ps2 but he got another one because it was grey.lol

ChickeyCantor3535d ago

in japan it will sell crazy, Dragon quest, monster hunter, FF:CCB
those are still in line.
Plus SSBB is going to sell world wide.

I think Wii will take the path of the DS, the audience is just to big to make it go downhill.
