Crytek Boss Reveals Timesplitters 4 Faces Numerous Hurdles

The future of the Timesplitters series remains undecided, according to Crytek's CEO.

In an interview with CVG, Cevat Yerli revealed that the team isn't currently working on Timesplitters 4, and that a retail release would be out of the question anyway.

He said, "I wish we were working on it, I will say that. I think hopes are high, but change has to happen in the platform space. I'm very excited potentially about the idea of a TimeSplitters for G-Face.

The thing with TimeSplitters is, if we made a sequel to TimeSplitters, nobody would accept this apart from some fans, and we don't know how big the fan community is, unfortunately. And we don't want to design this as a packaged goods game that launches on a console, and even if we wanted to I don't think publishers would like the idea. That is the truth, and that was the truth even before we bought Free Radical."

The story is too old to be commented.

Just do it! Enough people want it!

Unfortunately, that's really not fact. Ask around areas with "gamers" how they feel about Timesplitters and unfortunately you're just going to attract some blank stares.

Timesplitters doesn't instantly hit a whole bunch of nostalgia nerves for most of the more "mainstream" gaming community.

All the mainstream care about is Call of Duty and flailing around like a retard in front of a tv.

Holy crap Crytek, get over yourselves and make a damn Timesplitters game. I can guarantee you that it will make more than Crysis or Haze ever did...

Well, Crytek didn't make Haze and I doubt a new Timesplitters would sell 4 or so million copies...

Plus, they've said before that no publishers are interested in the idea, so if they can't get funding how can they make it?

With Crytek's name on the game, it probably would sell that many copies. Some games, even if they're not good, sell because of the name on the box.

I think Timesplitters would sell way more than Crysis if it had the same amount of advertisement.

I mean, I have friends (a lot of them actually) that have never even heard of Crysis. Then, when I mention Timesplitters, they immediately go into a nostalgia coma.

Your friends aren't indicative of what the majority of gamers are today. My friends played and enjoyed Timesplitters, but it's pretty easy to identify that further outside of my group of old friends the number that have knowledge or an attachment to the series drops considerably.

On a side note, how does a whole group of people who apparently know games well enough to harbor nostalgia for TS, not know about Crysis? Smells weird in here.
