Amazon is currently offering a big discount for the Playstation 3 version of the multiplatform role-playing title from Square Enix, Final Fantasy XIII-2.
(Final Fantasy XIII-2, PS3)
After the abysmal FFXIII, it is hard to see how FFXIII-2 has improved upon FFXIII. By metacritic averages. FFXIII = 83 and FFXIII-2 = 80. Seems like FFXIII-2 is a worse game than FFXIII and a further away from being AAA game status that is expected by a high profile FF game.
If you care about the game story, FF XIII-2 story makes no sense what so ever. Even it's supposed to be time travel, they will never meet a copy of each other even you reset the time segment and return to the same time as before. 80+% of the game contents are recycled from FF XIII. There are only only 2 new locations and every location is slightly modified as different time segment. The game has no ending with the message, to be continued.
The DLCs make even less sense. For example, if you buy Lightning DLC, you can have her in your team but then you will meet a "real" Lightning anyway.
The difficulty is uneven when you meet the final boss that is overly powerful and fights dirty if you don't play as Normal mode because you will be too weak to fight him 5 times at the end. But if you play in Normal difficulty and visit most possible time segments, then you will be strong enough to fight the final boss.
There is only one reason why you would play FF XIII-2. That's if you like FF XIII battle system. FF XIII-2 battle system is slightly improved. Just don't think what is going in XIII-2 story.
Do you always rely on scores and reviews for everything? Take a moment and look past all the numbers: Try the game before hating and trolling. There is a DEMO after all.
Wait for FF Versus XIII. A darker FF game with a deeper plot and a move away from the candy world Emo style of the two FFXIII games.
FFXIII to me felt like a linear 50 hour theme park game from point A to B. RPGs are supposed to be open world and offer the gamer more freedom and choice.
Completing an FF game requires a lot of time. 100% completion requires even more time and effort.
FFXIII battle style to me was pure frustration and it required a lot of trial and error. I came so close in breaking the game disc. WRPGs are more open world and offer more freedom and choice to the game player.
It's worth it for that cheap, I played it and thought it was ok. nothing compared to the greatness of the old school cf games but for that cheap its a good 30+ hours of entertainment
As for FFXIII-2, I'll wait until black Friday I got the first one for $10 bucks.
