New Super Mario Bros. U E3 2012 Hands-On Preview | GameDynamo

GameDynamo - "Each of the stages presents its own challenges, with new platforming elements never seen in previous Mario titles, such as the aforementioned rotating stars in the night level. Looks brilliant, but I am in two minds about it. On one hand I absolutely LOVE Mario platformers and enjoy the New Super Mario Bros series. On the other hand I was hoping for it to handle differently, have a slight change in art direction and utilize the Wii-U's specs. It could look better. I know I will enjoy it regardless and me and my GF will finish it multiple times. Great that I can play it whilst she has TV on or whilst she is playing Journey.

That's totally fair to say. I know what you mean by new art direction but as far as using specs: I never want my 2D Mario's to look like building blocks (heavy looking) taking away from the simplicity of the NES, SNES era. The 3D Mario's have some quick side scrolling sections but it feels more weighted down than the classic feel I truly enjoy like this. I hope i'm not confusing anyone. The new backgrounds look fantastic in NSMBU.

The Gamepad player can draw timed platforms to help or hinder other players in multiplayer. So that and the Miiverse features are new.

@-GametimeUK- Take a look at some of the awesome backdrops it has ( http://www.gamedynamo.com/g... The change in art direction is definitely there, so that's good. I'm sure they'll be showing more cool levels in the next few months. They couldn't change gameplay too much or fans would get mad. It's super fun, though. :)
