didnt have a fucking clue what this uber nerd was chattin about. hate unreal engine thoe with a vengance. i dont like the effect it gives. they seen to alwys over do the blue and red when they use it in games.
Oh the irony! Your beloved bf3 game prides itself for using real lighting effects but at the same time they slap a blue tint over everything.
Ahem lol its colour grading not the luminosity of light. Even tho during secondary grading you can modify lighting but its only if its extremely required even then its for maintaining the art style. Sadly you are so used to tv sitcoms clarity of everything, barely no style.
Let's hope the new Engine can realistically render Bob Arum's face so I can riddle it with bullets after the shocking decision in the Mayweather v Bradley fight. The videos of the above screenshots are quite impressive. I can't wait to see it implemented in games.
I'm not a big fan of tech demos. I know they say this is running in real time, but until I see someone actually playing a game on UE4, I'll not be judging its advancement.

your an idiot... the color has nothing to do with the technology. Its just the preference of the developer. They do that on purpose. Nothing to do with the engine. Its a popular style.
This will look dated in 2 yrs.
But as the generation goes on the developers will get better with the tech and machine, so it should look dated in two years.

PC right now!!! Devs just don't take advantage of the technology and for some reason PC get terrible performance (GTA IV for example horrid port) Xbox 360 = 48 Unified Shaders HD 7970 = 2048 Unified Shaders GTX 680 = 1536 Unified Shaders Max Payne 3 however has amazing performance, easy maxed :)
I'm a PC gamer myself, but there was no way in hell I was gonna pay for a card like a 7000 or 600 series card.

theres really nothing special imo about these screen shots. I've seen games that look just as good as that tech demo. I'm just saying it hasn't impressed me yet.

If they have some good animations to go with this then im sure it will be mind blowing. Smooth and realistic animation makes a difference in the world. Look at the new NBA game coming out, wow some of the best animation i have seen yet but the actual texture right now when they zoomed in were terrible but it still looked amazing. Other than that, its not the best but certainly not the worst.
I'm not being one of those negative people or a troller but I wasnt as impressed as I thought I would be. The particle effects and lighting do look good though. However the engine and the visuals will only get better as time goes on.

For everyone who is unimpressed, this Tech Demo was not designed for you. It was targeted at developers who understand the technical work that goes into creating real time environments that look like that. What you probably don't realize is the amount of computational power and incredibly effective and efficient coding it takes to render Global Illumination in real-time. I'll spell it out simple. Imagine having to draw a line following every beam of light as it is emitted, reflected, refracted and terminated on all objects. Now imagine having to do that over and over again for every frame that is redrawn in-game. Every time something moves in-game, those light beams have to be recalculated. That is "Real-Time Global Illumination" in a nutshell. A little more impressive, huh? Feel free to correct any mistakes I may have made... :)
Let the fools remain ignorant. If they ever truly understood just how underpowered and outdated their PS3s were, they'd feed themselves a bullet. Personally, I'd love to see what Bethesda could do with this engine for the next Elder Scrolls game.
Yes, how they do it is by using larger areas to calculate the light bounce, so instead of tracing every ray, theyh use volumes pretty standard in all realtime GI engines to date. so instead of calculating billions of lines they calculate whether a colume is close enough to transfer the light to the next volume etc. various smmoothing techniques later, they have a darn good approximation of the light bounce in a room. a good way to show that gi isnt fully simulated is that there are no caustics, in the scene, meaning that light isnt being bounced through glass objects and refracted accurately. that would be direct raytracing. nevertheless a very good job. theyve done.
