Rumor: Final Fantasy Versus XIII Gets Dated At TGS 2012

A tipster apparently overheard this on the E3 showroom floor: Square Enix plans to give the world an official release date for Final Fantasy Versus XIII at this year's Tokyo Game Show.

@blitz - Seriously doubt that. If they're announcing at TGS, I'd think it is more likely that we'll see a December release date in Japan (same as FF13 and 13-2), and around February for the rest of the world (maybe March).

I was at E3 and when I asked about Versus XIII they wouldn't even say if the game was in development or not. That's how quiet they are being on the game.

However the person did say that we should get news on the game at some point this year. Take what you want from that but by December 31 of this year, they better have something to say about Versus XIII.

Expectation:

Storms SE building and catches Nomura alone in his office. Grabs him by the shirt with finger pointing in inches away from his face while giving him the lecture of his life.

Reality:

Arrives at the parking lot gate with no way of entering. Hesitant on what to do next. Grabs 2 weeks old McDonalds burger wrapper left in your junky car and attempts to toss it through the gate in a fit of frustration(Yeah...that'll teach him) only to have the wind blow it back. Sees security car casually strolling by and runs back into the your car and drive off in fear.

LOL! I have to say, I think this game has Xbox 360 gamers on edge as much as PS3 gamers. One wishes it would be announced for their console, and the other just wants the damn game to come out (and also wishes for it to stay exclusive).

But I just want to see something new from it, and a release date would be nice.

To be honest, I don't think either side is "on edge" for this game, minus forum people. The Final Fantasy franchise is no longer the pinnacle of RPGs - and there is only more competition on the way.

Versus should have come out 2 years ago.

You see its not going multiplat. Its suppose to be max out the PS3 because the game is massive. The only way it will come to 360 is by port but Nomura wants to work on Kingdom Hearts 3 after Versus XIII.

They didn't have a contract, or at least I don't believe they did... Though I know Nomura said he didn't want multiplatform because it lessens the quality of the game. Since he's in charge, I don't think we'll see it going mulitplat.

The game has been taking forever because the the only people who were woking on it was the core Kingdom Hearts developers up until last September when it went full development. Lets not forget all the Kingdom Hearts Portables. Nomura even confirmed it last year January 2011 that the game is still exclusive.

You could be right about the extra time being needed to down port it to 360. Yet you and SE should know by now, the uproar and bad press will destroy SE for it....
-Everyone knows FFXIII was heavily downgraded due to being ported over to 360.
-That SE sold us the SCRAPS that were taken out of XIII to make it fit on DVD as a new game called FFXIII-2.
-Versus kept being put on the backburner just so they could finish XIII and that was an atrocity.
-XIII suffered from an extra 1.5year delay for the port and in that time they just held onto the PS3 version instead of releasing it(like MS does timed-exclusives) which is infuriating.
-Versus was promised time and time again as an exclusive to PS3. Yet again SE would be proved as liars if we see otherwise.

In essence there is a lot to be pissed off about if it turns up being Multiplat and I think that will surely be the final nail in the already sinking SE coffin.

I hear Thearhythm is a good game too.

This game has to come out within the next two years. This gen is almost over. I want them to work on it and make it a great game, but we need more details and a time frame for release. I really hope they take the XIII out of the title. Just call it Final Fantasy Versus or Final Fantasy XIV.

As much as I would love to see the game get a release date at TGS the "tipster" as it is know is very unreliable, but as long as there is some news about the game, screenshots and or a new trailer it will still intrigue me. I still think though that we won't see the game until next year; so with that in mind I am going to stick with my borderlands and halo 4 until the game that convinced me to buy a ps3 shows up.

My guess is that after the bad reception from gamers which ff13 and ff13-2 got, square enix tried to incorporate into ff versus 13 all the suggestions and comments the fans had made and that turned the game into a big mess. But I hope I'm wrong about that.

I really enjoyed 13 and 13-2, yeah I didn't like hope and I feel a couple things could have been different but everything was great in the end. 13-2 fixed a lot of the mechanics from 13 and the story was the perfect tragedy (and I mean tragedy like the greek meaning where there isn't suppose to be a happy ending). I honestly can not wait for vs13 and with them taking notes from Hamlet it just gets me more excited since it's my favorite Shakespear work. I want it to come out but if they need to time to make it better than so be it I will have no problem waiting for it.

you misunderstood my comment, I never said that FF13 and 13-2 were bad games. Infact FF13 is my favorite JRPG of this gen. I have played all the JRPG that came out from Enchanted Arms till FF13-2 and after playing FF13 all the others become unplayable to me. What I was trying to say is that developers should not have listened to the fanboys and my guess is that the FFvs13 delay is due to Square Enix trying hard to please the fanboys and that may have clouded their vision and direction for the game.
