GamePro Review: Burnout Paradise 5.0/5.0 (PS3/360 Review)

GamePro Writes:

Think the rush of triple-A titles is over? Think again: Burnout Paradise is a bona fide winner and it just might be the best action racing game ever created! Get Your Motor Running: The Next Burnout Truly Is Paradise.

PROS:

-The open-ended world offers up a lot of possibilities.
-The crashes, a series hallmark, are just as impressive as they were in past installments.
-The sensation of speed is ridiculous. You better have nerves of steel if you want to survive this ride.
-The transition to online play is transparent and seamless, which is a really nice touch.

CONS:
-Just like in real life, navigating through the huge city can be intimidating.
-The learning curve is far steeper this time around. You will spend some time getting acclimated to the game.
-An instantaneous "restart" option would have definitely come in handy.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Chris Morell played both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions and found no discernible differences in gameplay, so the scores and review stands for both versions. We are going to investigate if there are any differences in terms of framerates and visual quality and will report back if we find anything.

GRAPHICS: 4.75/5
SOUND: 5.00/5
CONTROL: 4.75/5
FUN FACTOR: 5.00/5

cant wait to play this game. I wanted to try out the fastest car possible. The sense of speed will be awesome.

Criterion delivered this time too

Lets hope you PS3 owners go out there and buy the games NEW.
You wanted games developed for the system you got it, now go buy em up.
Uncharted, Ratchet, UT3, Burnout, Devil May Cry

Lots of good damn games

Didn't Criterion explain to everyone why there is no restart race feature in the game?? They wanted absolutely NO load times. Why does every reviewer keep complaining about it like it was an omission on Criterion's part.

Funny that 1up can spot some differences, yet this site can't..

Because screen tears are painfully obvious to me and it bothers me when I see them.

As much as I love Uncharted, I can't stand it when the screen tearing occurs.

I guess we'll have to wait for some other sites (IGN) to know for sure.

Good to see this is being universally received as an equal-opportunity port, pretty much like DMC4.

I love that there's a lack of discernible differences between platforms with these games, because it makes fanboys on both sides practically implode trying to find something worthwhile to cry about.

[off-topic rant]
I also get a laugh when I see these ratings systems. E.g. "4.75 out of 5"... What's next, 3.14159265 out of 5"?

Stick to half-points, or go to a 10-scale. Better yet, stick to my favourite system, along the lines of:

- "Must-have" or "Sell your grandmother"
- Highly Recommended
- Recommended for fans only
- Recommended
- Rental
- Not Recommended
- Avoid at all costs

:)

Surely recommended should be higher than recommended for fans only?

And I agree with you by the way.

High profile games, tend to have less sloppy ports, especially now were in the 2008, and dev's have a better handle on PS3 side of things.

Don't waste your time...you'll start seeing stuff that really isn't there.

In response to 1ups review. All issues except for the screen tearing are minor to me. If it occurs regularly I think they would've noticed it but we'll see what other sites have to say.
