Sony have released a video of PlayTV in action. Watch, record and replay digital tv on your Playstation 3.
wow wow wow. Great video! Thanks for the news to whoever is the submitter.
Why would you buy such a thing? It is expensive and of limited use. Sony is going down the "Buy everything from Sony and attach it to your PS3, when we release the PS4, replace everything" road. Do PS2 add-ons work with the PS3? No. But my Xbox 360 accessories *all* work with my PC, and therefore will be usefull for many years to come. Secondly, Xbox 360 users have been able to do this SINCE DAY ONE. In a MUCH more featureful and elegant way. It is called a "TV Tuner Card" and Windows Media Center. http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... I've been using a Radio & TV Tuner in my PC as a DVR since day one. Unlimited cheap harddrive space. Flexible. Media is available to *every* device in the home. Does your PS3 permit you to stream content to a 3rd party Digital Media Player? My solution does. The future is one of COMPUTER-centric media distrubution, it permits a more vibrant and open market, an open ecosystem available to any 3rd party who wants to enter. Sony's method is to lock-you-in. The Xbox 360 will be the living room front-end to *everything*. The PS3 is going to be the front-end for only what Sony will sell you. @2.1 Sorry, cant handle the truth? Ignore me and remain ignorant, keep it up superstar. @2.2 "COMPUTER with media center" Windows Media Center comes with Vista. Vista is the 2nd most popular OS on the planet, 2nd to XP - XP also has WMC. Your typing on a computer, it *might* not be Windows, but that would put you in the 3% of the non-Windows OS. Because the combined total of Non-Windows OSs is ~3% of the market. So, everyone who is saying "Oh, thats nice, but you need a PC" is being ridiculous. What part of the Console owning public do you think DO NOT have a PC? Its surely a very smmmallll portion. @2.4 Did MS sell you that hardware? Drivers are the responsibility of the person who made your hardware. MS is not responsible to write the planet's 3rd party drivers.
your xbox 360 has been unreliable from day one. Brace yourselves for RRoD adding you to my ignore list cos you talk crap.
too bad you need to have a COMPUTER with media center connected to your 360 in order for all that to work..., a whole nother device running at the same time.. dude.. you dont even need your 360 to have all of that.. duhhhhh.. why even bother turning the 360 on when you can connect your computer directly to your tv.. you are dumb.
argh double post.. you are still dumb
and you are claiming hardware compatibility isn't an issue for microsoft?
"Secondly, Xbox 360 users have been able to do this SINCE DAY ONE. In a MUCH more featureful and elegant way. It is called a "TV Tuner Card" and Windows Media Center. " Unless you can explain to me how I install a TV Tuner card in the Xbox 360, you should just refrain from posting. Now, if you said 360 AND PC owners (meaning you need both), I could agree with you. But a Tuner card has nothing to do with the 360, does it?
yep kyur.. thats what is so funny about his post.. he doesnt even need to have a 360 for what he wants to do. The 360 is insignificant. I do love the media connectivity between my ps3 and my home computer.. but i don't like turning on my computer every time i want to access some sort of media.. hency whey i have a 500 gb external connected to my ps3.
"Sorry, cant handle the truth? Ignore me and remain ignorant, keep it up superstar." lol, well i have people agreed with me. Most disagree with you.
wow and xbots say ps3 fans always sabotage rival console threads do you have to come in here and spread UTTER BULLSH!T!!! yeah when you use a PC in conjunction with a console you can do a lot of things on both the 360 and ps3 (but you can turn the ps3 into a pc anyway with linux), but lets compare what things you can do just with the console alone and no PC? actually lets not- i prefer not to waste to much of my time with idiots like you
You just own a lot of sh*t from Microsoft man...
"Your typing on a computer, it *might* not be Windows, but that would put you in the 3% of the non-Windows OS. Because the combined total of Non-Windows OSs is ~3% of the market. " What tires came with your car? Were you able to tell the dealership what make of tires you wanted? Didn't think so. Vista the 2nd most popular OS on the planet? No, it might be the 2nd most INSTALLED OS on the planet. Installed by PC manufacturers / sellers. Not users. Come on, you can do better than that, can't you?
Your post seems like the copy and paste type...
£99 accessory vs £500+ PC... One may be more elegant than the PC, but you're stating the obvious... And not all people spend time setting up strams, plug and play baby, yeah :P
My TV: Worship meeee. Adore meeee. Buy a PlayTV! You have no life or meaning without meeee! Buy PlayTV edit: Wage is fun. So far. Sometimes even constructive in his comments. But sometime enough is enough for me too.
Cool feature. I'll buy it. got a 250GB HDD attached to my PS3, I might as well put it to good use.
this will allow me to get rid of my huge ass comcast cable box. i hope this come to the USA and they make a deal with comcast.
PlayTV currently only works with OTA (over the air) channels, not cable. Keep your cable box.
How about digital OTA channels?
PlayTV is for DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) - not just OTT.
Dolph - LOL
time to get that 500gb hard drive then btw does anyone know if there is a way of transferring downloaded PSN games from internal HDD to external HDD? i know i can just download them again, but thats going to take ages- any ideas? EDIT: @gamesR4fun thanks man i will try that then- imma make life bubbliscous for you
yeh you can copy the files via ps3 linux tho Im not sure if you can get them to work again if their already installed.... games do transfer ok if you use the ps3 backup tool tho....
Looks pretty sweet but I still wanna have a good look at the interface before I drop my cash on one. Its a brilliant idea though and the ability to interface with the PSP is fab. If only Sony's TV adverts were as clear and informative as that video.
I thought that it was announced a while ago only for Europe only, i could be wrong It would be great if it was in North America
North America has close to zero OTA digital TV channels (DVBT), hence its pointless in NA. Thats the reason this is only announced for europe so far. Maybe after your TV channels switch to digital around 2009.
yes Europe will get it first. I think NA will get it in 2009. It is something to do with the american broadcasting.
Great! Sony gets better and better.
That's so cool you can't record 2 things at the same time on DVR that's so awesome. If you add perfect 1080P and 7.1 Surround Sound that equals heaven. Only $141 from what I've heard and it comes out in March I'm gonna get that on Easter.
I wish that I lived in Europe, and owned a PSP.
