E3 2012: Kojima: 'Fox Engine is built for Xbox 360, PS3, PC'

CVG:While it might not be grabbing headlines in the same way Ubisoft, Square Enix and Epic's engines are, Hideo Kojima's Fox Engine is just as impressive, and according to the Metal Gear maestro it's built for current-generation hardware. (Fox Engine, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

I think it's good that more Japanese developers are creating engines
THEonlyBONBON  +   344d ago
Making new engines will just push the barrier in graphics, awesome.
PLASTICA-MAN  +   344d ago
Tis gen is almost already over, we are already seeing next gen games, next gen is sooner than expected and yet we have to see at least one game from Kojima Productions made with this Fox Engine on THIS gen, whether MGS5 or ZOE3 or Project Ogre. He just went to E3 to be passive spectator?
I think when he is going to show sth, it will be already late for him.

time for an jrpg come back? I can't wait to see CD Projeckt's next gen engine to!

I'm surprised not to see Vita and Wii U on there, though.

Pretty much confirms MGS5 going multi-plat.

Looks amazing so far.

Hope its as good as they say it is. I usually find Japanese devs are good when it comes to interesting ideas, but are lazy when it comes to things like controls, fluidity & stupid story lines etc which generally ruins it for the majority of western players.
SephirothX21  +   344d ago
Gears and Halo were made by American devs.
Slugg3r  +   344d ago
American =/= western.
1nsomniac  +   344d ago
Not exactly sure what your point is SephirothX21. Although the stories in those games are generic save the world from extinction, the actual content of the story & the control is undeniably solid. The choices you made are a little unfair to Japanese devs if anything as professional writers were externally brought in to write the scripts & scores for those so it makes ur argument even more confusing.

Thanks for the laugh 1nsomniac. But then again, a person that spells insomniac like that is bound to be a riot.

k, whatever you say chief ;-)
8bit_Nes_Rambo  +   344d ago
Pretty general assumptions there on Japanese developers 1nsomniac. If I want a good laugh from a western story, I'll just watch Mass Effect 3's ending again.

Yeah... don't speak. You're clearly out of your element when it comes to expressing yourself... or maybe just thinking.

I have to agree with you on that, save a few titles. Japanese devs seem to have been wholly screwed over by their publishers.

I think you got disagrees because people still have a hard time admitting that Japanese devs have been playing catch up all generation. For the most part youur right, but it's not the rule.

Interesting.. I would love a MGS game....
but damn.. make it a... *makes a wish*..
a launch title for PS4 :D
Kratoscar2008  +   344d ago
Kojima must hve be making a great game for this engine.
ABizzel1  +   344d ago
The screenshot looks really good. I'm surprised it's for PS3 & 360, and not for {S4 / Nextbox . PC. Maybe they'll include Wii U support in there as well, since it can run on current consoles.

Ya for more diversity with lead character :D

No mention of Vita ?
Figures.

It's probably as i thought, someone misheard/misinterpreted him when he mentioned the Vita.
PirateThom  +   344d ago
It's odd, but think back to the mists of time and the MGS4 demo running on Vita/PSP2...

I find it stupid to create a new engine having the current generation consoles in mind at mid of 2012, the new game Kojima working on right now "Project Ogre" is something that as he said will take a lot of time to finish that means that the next generation of consoles will be out more or less before he complete it, imo he must start focusing on the new consoles that r coming in 1.5-2 years.

dorron  +   344d ago
Just my thoughts. It makes no sense to build a new engine only for current gen consoles when their life cycle is nearing an end. They should focus in next-gen.
DigitalAnalog  +   344d ago
You think he doesn't know that.
How do you know that the engine isn't "scalable"? If Frostbite 1.0 can evolve to 2.0 in 2 years by the time the next gen comes, what makes you think his engine won't evolve?

Secondly, even if next gen comes and judging by the rumored "specs", you won't be seeing anything near the samaritan demo like quality. So this puts a dent right there in your "next-gen" argument.

"While it might not be grabbing headlines..."

Perhaps but what's more important is that there are so many brand new game engines for everyone to enjoy. I haven't seen an engine competition between studios this intense since Doom 3 and Far Cry were released near each other. Then, Crysis came along and scared everyone from investing too much on game engines. Ever since then it was either an engine or two new game engines per year or just another Unreal 3 powered game.

Good to see a lot of studios are investing on their own engines that they can control completely.

I guess it's safe say the winner in E3 2012 are NOT some exotic controllers, gameplay or rehashed games/sequels. The real winners are the games engines.
CLOUD1983  +   344d ago
The new engines r impressive for sure but it's not something we r going to see for at least the next 2 years when the next generation of consoles launch (and no Wii U cant be called next generation with 6 years old hardware) so for me the most impressive thing I saw at E3 was the trailer from The Last of Us and that crazy AI of enemies that make me go BOO! it was absolutely mind blowing to fight enemies that react that way.. it left me speechless literally.

Metal Gear Solid ended at 4. Its over, so if this is another Metal Gear game its definitely gonna be a sequel, maybe another Big Boss title or maybe a remake of the old NES titles, either way it would be a shame to see it on Xbox, considering that none of them buy the MGS games and they bashed MGS4 for being a movie.
sonicsidewinder  +   343d ago
Impressive! This is indeed worthy of the codename: 'FOX'.
