Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has told CVG that the Crysis studio's CryEngine tech is "way beyond next-gen consoles already".
Crysis are so far ahead, they are buying guns and shooting each other photo realism was 2 console gens ago
Dumbest comment of the year by far
Called a joke...because we can laugh at the silly things in life
Now make a game that isn't mediocre.
Then they should have no problem for maxing out next-gen consoles day one.
A liar always is a liar .
Crysis 1 for pc was there peak, Crysis 2 showed how far they could degrade an game engine. Give us back the proper nanosuit, you know, the one that actually takes skill to use.
Crytek is so fucking proud of themselves it's annoying, crysis 2 is the prettiest but most boring game I've ever played
Is it me, or is Crytek the only developer who is trash talking consoles. Something tells me there trying to win back their PC fans who left them after they went multiplat and "ruined" the game.
The multiplayer was a piece of crap CoD copy-cat. But the singleplayer is fine and is a lot longer than most shooter franchises' singleplayer.
Crysis 2 was so mediocre someone should tell this guy gfx dont matter when the gameplay and story is shit.
And we supposed to believe that??
Crysis 2 wasn't that bad story-wise. I thought it was paced poorly, that's all. I really enjoyed the feel of the game and mp was fun. But....these guys seem like arrogant asshats.
Can't believe they are already coming out with another Crysis, it's not the type of franchise to come out every 2 yrs, more like every 3 or 4 yrs
People should actually read the article. At no point do they say they're "way beyond" next-gen consoles. It's entirely misleading and deliberately puts them in a bad light. Furthermore, no one graphics card can currently run the original Crysis at peak settings running at a consistent 60fps. Not even the recent GTX 690. Say what you will about every subsequent Crysis title, the first game (which was released 5 years ago) is STILL the benchmark and will remain that way at least until mid to late 2013.
Crysis was poorly optimized to the point where Crysis Warhead looks better and ran better on lower hardware.
Exactly. He only says they KNOW whats next gen hardware like. Dunno where did they get that "way beyond" part from.
Uhhh, a GTX690 can certainly run Crysis 1 at 1080p with 4xMSAA with a constant 60fps paired with a suffiecient CPU; it's not a single GPU though.
Yeah ahead in graphics, light years behind in terms of gameplay.
Well that's nothing to shout about, all it means is they are relying on hardware as opposed to coding properly for what we have! This doesn't push the boundaries of what is possible, in fact its quite the reverse. Its almost like they're saying "ok people wait 20 years to see what we can really achieve".. Errrmm.. NO! get your f*#in heads down and show us now what you can do with what you already have.. When Crytek have truly shown that they have done all they can on existing hardware then they can talk about next gen hardware, but currently its clear that improvements could still be made so either they're being lazy, they're intellectually incapable of improving it or the engine is incapable of being improved upon < and that isn't a compliment! Edit: Plus what @Zha1tan and others have said.. glorified tech demos are not fun!
Its so easy to do a cheap a** code and then say the current generation cannot run it properly(guess what happend with the first Crysis). Crytek has shody development tools, their code is uterly unrefined, resourse hogging bastard as it is, and they want everyone to believe their engine tops everyone else....only when the system has the resourses to eat it(and even then it may crash...), if not, it isnt next gen enough for them... Well, I'll believe it when I see it.
Good for you Crytek. Then why release console games at all? Greed? We don't want your mediocre games. Keep them PC exclusive, we won't care.
I have no doubt they a have stuff in the can that far exceeds what the console can handle... and most likely they also have stuff that far exceeds what 90% of PC's can handle... It's the nature of companies like this to push the upper limits...its what they do...its what they enjoy... What I do appreciate is that they have (like Epic) scaleable framework so they can still deliver some great experiences to the masses but still stay ahead of the curve to push tech forward.
Why are ppl bashing Crytek. They made Crysis 1 and warhead which were pretty awesome games, graphics and gameplay wise. Also ppl who have actually played Crysis know what Im talking about. The military shooter to scifi transition was brilliant. SPOILERS(been 5 years lol) Anyone remember the zero gravity level and the aftermath thereafter. How epic was that. Not many games have reached the level of crysis and graphics none. Crysis 2 was average not terrible tho. A big leap going into multiplatform but well tried. If they can get their stuff straightened out i'll be happy to buy Crysis 3 Im pretty sure most console gamers based their opinion from crysis 2. 1 and 2 are very very different games. Some may have played Crysis1 with the recent re-release and they know how awesome Crysis actually was.
Because Crytek talk crap. -Most of the time- Why? Who told them to turn Crysis into a multiplat project? Who told them to put out a poor MP, which lacked support from the various Crytek branches? Who told them to deal with 'consoles'? Money did. Coupled with poor customer service. EA/Crytek let greed run their minds. You speak about Crysis 1/its expansions. You're right. If they wanted to go 'way beyond' why not keep your main project, Crysis, exclusive to a platform which allows you to do so? Instead, they continue to talk crap. It always happens when they're releasing a Crysis game.
Crysis just looks beautiful , that's all .. it never had great story , gameplay and even sales ! so why are these guys so proud of themselves ? Crysis is NOT fun to play it's just fun to look at !
Crysis 1 was an amazing game. The first time I played it, I played it on low settings and could barely manage a solid 30 FPS framerate. Even without the pretty graphics, Crysis was one of the best FPS games I've ever played. It didn't PC Gamer's highest rating ever (tied with Half-Life 2) for its graphics alone, buddy.
when I played it in 2007, I played it on all low settings at 1024x768 resolution lol. It was a damn good game. Why do you think it received 9-9.5 ratings all around. Also all games dont have to have the greatest/most well narrated story. Crysis had a simple plot but intriguing premise and built on it and made it challenging and exciting to uncover what was happening.
Strange they say this after Epic Games debut Ue4.
Crytek were already way beyond console tech when Crysis 1 came out five years ago...............
...... But your gameplay blows. Pretty graphics don't make the game.
It's strange, because I was all-around unimpressed by Crysis 2 on console. I saw nothing I could say was visually superior to the likes of Killzone, for example. The gameplay was average, at best. The story was... okay, I suppose. And the pacing was crap. They haven't even proven, to me and many others, that they can make a top-quality console game, so where do they get off treating consoles like they're so outdated?
i liked both ,still havent beaten crysis one but i go back and play all of them ever once and a while ,i luv that last level in warhead
Says a company whos last console game was meager at best. How about focusing on the current gen.
I wonder if that is the reason why all story related cut-scenes in crysis 2 were pre-rendered...they were poorly compressed 360p videos.
