Pre-holiday release for GTA 5 now unlikely, admits Pachter

Grand Theft Auto V is now unlikely to be released this holiday season, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter has admitted.

Despite previously believing Rockstar Games' highly anticipated open-world action sequel was a good bet for an October 2012 release, Pachter now believes that the game's no show at E3 2012 means a 2012 release is unlikely.

However, given Take-Two's revenue guidance for the current fiscal year, Pachter remains confident that GTA 5 will be released before the end of March 2013.

Seems like it. I don't think they'd miss E3 and still decide to release the game this year.

It's not Rockstar's MO to go to E3, so it doesn't matter one way or the other that they were a no show. You can tell when R* is going to launch a game by how active the R* newswire gets, and it's all Max Payne info right now so don't expect GTAV until R* starts talking about it heavily.

I think Pachter likes the taste of his own words because he always ends up eating them. He has worse than my local weatherman when it comes to being right.

Yeah R* never show much at E3. They drop magazine reviews or trailers at the oddest times. And they tend to release games in May.

I never assumed GTA V would release in 2012.

Rockstar releases one big game a year like Nintendo releases a console Zelda once in a while. You have to look at te facts.

Lol a series that NEVER debuted a new trailer at E3 in the 14 years of its life doesn't show at E3. OH NO , it mustn't be ready then. Why are idiots always thinking this? "Durrrr no GTA at E3 last year means there is no GTA 5". Oh wait Rockstar just announce it out of nowhere in Oct 2011 because they are Rockstar.

It'll be May 2013. May is Rockstars month in recent years. 2010: Red Dead. 2011: La Noire. 2012: Max Payne.

At this point they'll wait until next year. Clearly, it just isn't happening this year...Rockstar likes to enjoy the spotlight and I'm sure they realize next year will work out better.
