E3 2012: Analysts Seem To Be Very Peeved At Nintendo‘s Conference, But It Seems They Are At Fault

According to a recent report from VG247, yes, many analysts (including our blessed Michael Pachter) and general gamers are rather begrudged at Nintendo for their very lax E3 press conference, which, aside fron games, seemed to be missing essential details from all aspects - most notably a price revelation, official release of console tech specs and most importantly, a launch date for the console. Although we‘ve apparently received a questionable leak of the tech specs from yesterday, Nintendo has yet to comment on this situation, practically still leaving everyone at ground zero - absolutely clueless of the solid facts we needed most. It seems to everyone that Nintendo had the world at their very feet with all the hype and curiousity being flung about on the Wii U - yet they blew it with a comparibly sub-standard showcase, and failed to seize their chance to own this year‘s show...

Yes but this space is not true i have seen AC3 and Batman AC for WII U and they not looks like PS3/360 version cos the console is not powerful as PS3/360 Disagree my comment if you want but that not gonna change anything WII U is weaker than PS3/360

GameLord082017d ago

How can the Wii U be less powerful than the PS3/360? The Wii U is an 8th gen. console, while the PS3/360 are still alongside the Wii in the 7th gen. And secondly, you obviously haven't taken a look at the Wii U tech specs that were leaked yesterday - they state the Wii U is pretty much almost twice as powerful as those consoles.

HarryMasonHerpderp2017d ago (Edited 2017d ago )

I haven't seen one wii U game that looks better
than current consoles to be honest, maybe aliens
colonial marines was a bit better but not enough to
spend cash on a new console.

T9002017d ago

PS3 and Xbox are about 6 years old, there is no way Wii U is going to be weaker or even as strong as them. Even if Nintendo used the cheapest PC tech currently available it would still be way more powerful than PS3 or Xbox 360. Anyone thinking otherwise need to get their brains checked.

GameLord082017d ago

@HarryMasonHerpderp: You can not determine how powerful the Wii U is in comparison by looking at graphics alone - they are all HD, after all. What you need to concentrate on is how well it plays things out - the amount of RAM, how well it can multitask, how smooth the games run at different levels and much more, for example. These are what mainly determine the power of a console.

kneon2017d ago (Edited 2017d ago )

Just because it's Nintendo's 8th gen console doesn't necessarily mean it's more powerful than other companies 7th gen consoles. It's entirely up to them how powerful they make it. look at the Wii, it was way behind despite being the same generation as the PS3 and 360.

That being said it appears to be slightly ahead of the PS3 and 360, but not enough for anyone to really care. If it's a big jump in graphics you're after then the Wii U is very uninteresting, just get a PC or wait for the PS4 or Xbox.next.

And I think Microsoft and Sony have stolen some of the Wii U's thunder with Microsoft's Smart Glass and Sony showing the Vita as a controller for the PS3. There just isn't much to make the Wii U stand out from the crowd.

HarryMasonHerpderp2017d ago (Edited 2017d ago )

Yeah i get what you are all saying but the fact remains that i haven't seen anything that makes me think wow i need a wii U so bad.
Or wow batman arkham city looks so much better than the PS3/360 version.
There is just nothing that excels the PS3 or 360 apart from a pointless touch screen thing that just seems like a gimmick more than something that actually makes the games play better.

Just my opinion though so don't bite my head off! lol
=)

GameLord082017d ago

@HarryMasonHerpderp: Lol, it's okay, we all have our opinions. I can see where you're coming from with the statement of not seeing anything that crowd-attracting from the Wii U - though I still think the GamePad opens up whirls of easier and more intense control possibilities for games. I thought Zombi U looked great.

Granted, we haven't seen anything much too outstanding on the Wii U yet that sets it miles apart(though I'm convinced as an avid Nintendo fan), but I'm sure this is only the beginning.

@kneon: Actually, I disagree. For a console to be considered next-gen, it must display substantial improvement in power (like, x2 of current standards) and some form of difference and innovation from current-gen consoles - in other words, a new X-factor that measures up to new technology, and quite frankly, the Wii U has shown that, in my opinion.

As for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in comparison with the Wii, I can really only say those two most notably just have HD and slight more power dangling above the Wii's head. Apart from that, I don't see anything more that makes the Wii redundant. But you know, just my elaborate views on the industry.

MasterCornholio2017d ago (Edited 2017d ago )

I respectfully disagree. Just because its an 8th gen console doesnt mean that its as powerful as the other 8th gen console. Nintendo has proven that with the Wii because obviously the Graphics of the Wii are barely better than the gamecube as it pertains to the same generation as the PS3 and the XBOX360.

I have a feeling that Nintendo will try and repeat a Wii with the Wii U which means that the console will be cheap, sold at a profit and a generation behind (in terms of visuals) of other next gen consoles. Theres nothing wrong with this strategy because it ends up making them a lot of money.

The CPU AND GPU are better and you have to render two HD streams at the same time and you question if it is as powerful as Xbox and PS3. Come on get real.

HarryMasonHerpderp2017d ago (Edited 2017d ago )

No need to be rude.

I was merely stating i haven't seen anything that shows this power im not saying its not there.
But what's the point in having it if there not going to show it?
I was waiting to be blown away at nintendo`s E3 conference but sadly that didn't happen and i see no reason to purchase a Wii U

kneon2017d ago (Edited 2017d ago )

And that's why they had problems adding addition controllers. The controller is relatively dumb in order to keep costs down, it has minimal local processing, just enough to send user input to the console and display the video stream. The rendering is all being done on the console. Had they used a DS or 3DS as the controller then the rendering could be done locally so there would be little additional overhead to the console.

Sony using the Vita as a controller is a better, though much more expensive approach. There is no reason you couldn't have 4 Vitas connected to a PS3 since they have more than sufficient local processing to handle all the heavy lifting. Also with Playstation Mobile being available on Android, devs could do many of the same sort of things that Microsoft is doing with Smart Glass. They can write companion apps for certain games that would run on your phone or tablet to be used along side the game running on the PS3.

"There is no reason you couldn't have 4 Vitas connected to a PS3"

If you have 1.200 extra dollars to spend...

kneon2017d ago

@mamotte

When I said it's a better solution I was talking purely from a technical perspective, I did say it was a much more expensive solution.

Nintendo's solution is the right one for them, they won't succeed if they try to market the Wii U as a premium product with the requisite premium price.

The point is that we don't know very much about a major console that was announced last year. Nothing should be leaked by now, we should know how much we should be spending for this thing, we should know how powerful it is by now. It still feels like this thing is a ways off according to info, but its coming soon and everything should be pretty concrete. They even said the launch window will be larger than previous generations, which to me sounds like they fumbled with developers and they won't be ready like usual. This sounds a little, I don't want to go overboard, but it kind of sounds like their RROD or online breach. Things are kind of....off.

3rdDimension2017d ago

After all these years of gaming, you'd think people would understand how development works. For those complaining that third party games on Wii U look no better than 360/PS3, you need to understand that these games where built for those consoles. And the fact that they have them up and running on Wii U is a miracle in itself.

They are essentially moving an engine built for one platform over to a whole new platform in half the time they took to make it for it's intended consoles. I can garuntee when the next xbox and ps4 launch, the games will look no better than titles like Tomb Raider, Last of Us, God of War Ascension and other late gen titles.

It's pretty clear here that people don't understand how development works and are only looking at the surface (as usual).

Imalwaysright2017d ago

"I can garuntee when the next xbox and ps4 launch, the games will look no better than titles like Tomb Raider, Last of Us, God of War Ascension and other late gen titles." Yeah no they wont. Cryengine 3 and Frostbite 2 are scalable engines and the next Unreal Engine will most likely be available when the nextbox and PS4 are released.

3rdDimension2017d ago (Edited 2017d ago )

So with that said about the engines you listed, being new engines and all. Did anyone expect them to be ready for Wii U? Ubi uses their own engine for AS 3, Bioware built Mass Effect 3 with Unreal 3 and Batman uses it as well. Again people think that just porting those old engines to Wii U would automatically make it look next gen. The logic does not make sense.

Why are people complaining about these games when they would require completely new engines to look next gen?

Crillvirus812017d ago

Yea every body coming down on Nintendo just go back and look at the launch line up of the 360 and the ps3 there's no where near as good as what wii u is getting assassins creed and batman and mario u beat every thing they had at launch think I'm kidding here have a look 360 launch titles http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... and here's the ps3 http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... and you people really think there's we're any better wii u getting 20 something new games and 3 old ports but at least batman is getting a bunch of new stuff and ninja gaiden is getting so much stuff added its basically a new game and mass effect no one at bioware has said nothing yet well I'm very happy Nintendo fan how long its been that we get a Mario title at launch and pikmin
