Is Ascend: New Gods the first free-to-play XBLA game?

OXM writes: Our spies on the ground at E3 have been checking out Signal's asynchronous online action title Ascend: New Gods, and it sounds like quite the chin-stroker. An XBLA game from the developers of Toy Soldiers, Ascend lets you assist or inconvenience players in 'neighbouring' worlds as you explore, and will launch alongside a mobile app which constitutes the earliest working application of Microsoft's new SmartGlass to a videogame. (Ascend: New Gods, Xbox 360)

I don't think so but that would be killer for them and prove that XBLA is a great service and expanding all the time.

I think consoles will invest in free to play very soon in a big way.

I honestly see the Wii-U being the destination for some F2P MMO.

Free, on Live? Probably not. Unless its ran by Ads like my damn Dashboard... Sometimes I wonder if my Live subscription truly pays for itself, by me, or by all that crap bogging down the dash.
