From PSS: Nintendo is stuck in a creative rut, and they show no indication that they will be trying to break out of it anytime soon.
I disagree with the tone of this article. These games don't always bank solely on nostalgia. I like Mario Galaxy more than I liked Mario 64. And I enjoyed Zelda Skyward Sword more than Ocarina of Time. The games move forward plenty and the reason for that is because Nintendo is good at what they do, and what they do is present these older franchises in newer ways. Was there a motion controlled beetle in A Link to the Past? Was there a water gun in Super Mario World? No. But the games with those features were still fun. "Everyone always complains about how “identical” the yearly installments of Call of Duty are. But why doesn’t anyone complain about how identical Mario is year in and year out?" Because Mario's primary games today are nothing like the ones from two decades ago?
Or cause Mario is a beloved series from some of our childhood and COD is just one of those games that shouldn't have a ton of sequels.
....is the only company that actually tries different things every gen, and is stuck in the past? Come on, the dualshock has been here since the PS1.
I like the Dualshock though i dislike the triggers.
Translation: Why Nintendo does not use BLOOD, 1/2 dressed women, Only Grays and Browns, and uber realistic graphics in their games.
NES/SNES >>>>> The rest of Nintendo products
this is the truth, they've had spark of brilliance since then but nothing as wholly genius as the snes.
Turok 2 for n64.
If stuck in the past means not focusing on "cinematic" QTE-fests like everyone else at E3, awesome. Take your 'art-games' and shove them up your art.
Why doesn't anyone applaud Nintendo for keeping 25 year old franchises relavent....Call of Duty for example has been out less than 10 years and is already wearing out its welcome with many fans.
I haven't played games on a Nintendo since the Perfect Dark and Turok days.
i'm not happy about ne super mario U Out of those 23 games on wii U i expected somethin original and new and aside from zombiU, there was nothing .. Considering Nintendo has finally a name for their online network , you'd realise how far they need to go to catch up
Didn't Nintendo get this same type of hate when they announced the original Wii? I wonder how that turned out? I would never count out Nintendo, we already see Microsoft trying to do something similar, we also see Sony using connectivity between Vita and the PS3, which is something Nintendo has been doing since the Gamecube era, they had games that worked between the Gamecube and GameBoy Advance.
