(via GoozerNation) After having finished watching the Nintendo press conference earlier this morning GoozerNation has come up with list of reasons why the Wii U will not reach the success of its predecessor.
*facepalm* Why are there always fail articles before the release of a console...? 3DS, Vita, and now Wii U?
... so when a console is about to be released and there's very little/nothing that excites us about it, games-wise, we will assume it will fail. Maybe not commercially, but for us as gamers. The Nintendo-show did absolutely nothing to convince me that I will have to buy their new console. Sadly, because I do feel it has a lot of potential, when handled/supported right, so I had high hopes.
There are a lot, and it gets old. Imo Nintendo had the opportunity to shut a lot of mouths today, and they missed it. I am still a fan, but they didn't deliver... and now here comes the backlash. I don't think that the console is doomed (there is still plenty of time until launch), but Nintendo might want to do some soul searching.
honestly the only thing that worries me about the Wii-U is that in a year or two when the next xbox is about to launch and the next playstation is announced the Wii-U will be fairly new and just like the wii is now, be underpowered compared to competitors. This will again limit multiplat games
@ M_Prime just remember Nintendo is usually on a 5 year schedule and Sony and Microsoft are on a 10 year(ish) cycle. 2012 Nin 2014 Sony & Mic. 2017 Nin 2022 Nin 2024ish Sony & Mic. @Mr_Mike Yeah, you are right. They did not have to prove anything to "Gamers" or to the "Casuals" they had to prove to the "Core" that Nintnedo was Universal or for them too. I think a lot of the emphasis was changed because of their currently low stock prices. The investors lost faith in them before E3, so maybe they were trying to prove that this console could Recapture- Wii Magic Lightening.
@Yi-Long lol... Youre speaking as if E3 2012 was the end of the line or the last opportunity to announce/show games. I agree that Nintendo's E3 conference was really bad this year, but it's not the end of the world. They will have some other oportunities and I hope they do something.
because this site picks up every single site, including very small ones no one cares about, so it seems like more people think things will fail when in reality it was the same number of people thinking things will fail 5 years ago, just wasn't as noticeable
is there a way to filter "why (insert platform/game) will fail" articles?
Good idea! They should make that an option on here, just put it as a little checkbox in your profile settings lol!
CNN posted and article that was wondering if the WiiU will breath new life into the Wii. They thought it was an accessory they pulled it once people pointed that this was wrong. Thats one problem right there. I can see how someone who dont know much can think such a thing, imagine how many other people will think this. Similar thing with the 3ds but its not being affected buy it, unless people think for a few bucks extra u get 3d. Oh and enough doom articles, even if its just nintendo buy themselves there are a group of people who will buy it that is pretty large.
Yes its has failure written all over it!
it took a while for the "gloom and doom" articles to start appearing...
It failed at E3 because their presentation failed to showcase what their console was capable of.
Why does this kind of crap and boring articles get approved?
I dont thnk they failed to shw what its capable of. I feel tht we the informed consumers were right in saying it wouldnt be next gen at all or a step up frm current gen. I called this months ago. They chose to shw ports and cartoony games bcus tht wont push the hardware and shw us tht it isnt next gen at all. Its funny how pll deduce based off history how thngs are goung to turn out and you have the fanboys saying "no way itll be awesome six times strnger thn ps3" lol learn already history repeats itself!!!! They made tons of mony with cheap hardware and casual bs games thy wont mess with tht recipe. On another note most buyers dnt even knw about e3 lol Thyll buy thecwii u just bcus their kids want the new Mario nintendo will be fine. The ppl tht wont buy will be the informed like many of us.
"They chose to shw ports and cartoony games bcus tht wont push the hardware and shw us tht it isnt next gen at all." That statement is self-contradictory. You downgrade the Wii U graphics because modern day ports don't "push the hardware"? Isn't that expected from a next gen console If the best games of today (Mass Effect, Batman, AC3) can't "push" the Wii U, then that implies its more powerful than ps3 or 360. Since basically your saying the Wii U can easily without much effort produce the best graphics the ps3 or xbox can. So what happens if the Wii U is pushed in its hardware?
People seem to be a little surprized about these doom and gloom articles...it's not like the 3DS or the PSV which were well presented at E3, the Wii U doom and gloom articles actually have a good reason for are popping up Nintendo failed to show off what the Wii U can do...TWICE now. Yeah we all give it another chance and Nintendo failed to deliver, can you blame these articles popping up We all should of expected this
The awful E3 they had didn't help the Wii U aswell I totaly expected this Your right though the 3DS and PSV negative articles didn't really have a reason for being around but the Wii U ones do, the horrible E3 presentation. Mario - Looks the same as New Super Mario Bros Wii Pikman - Looks good but dosen't look much different from Pikman 2 Rayman Legends will be on Xbox 360 and PS3 Just Dance, Wii Fit, Nintendo Land - Casual Crap Where the hell was Zelda, Metroid, StarFox, a brand new 3D Mario game, any other franchise really. I thought they would of had loads of titles in store for us to sell us it.
What is with people expecting them to roll out a new system with all their big guns at once? The N64 launched with Super Mario 64, Star Fox/DK/Zelda didn't come until later. Metroid didn't even hit the system. The Gamecube launched with Luigi's Mansion and Smash Bros. Melee/Pikmin a few weeks later. Mario and Metroid would come later in the systems life, DK/Star Fox wouldn't get a proper game (the games were poor) and F-Zero wasn't there. The Wii launched with Twilight Princess. SMG, Metroid Prime 3 (and Other M), DKCR would again come later in the systems life, as would Skyward Sword. Star Fox and F-Zero wouldn't get a game on the Wii. We're getting Pikmin and a new-ish Mario game. Yes, first party support is a little lacking, though Pikmin 3 will still be awesome. We already know they're gonna make a new Smash Bros, Mario/Zelda/Metroid are guarantees and if we're REALLY fucking lucky, we'll get a real Star Fox, F-Zero, and maybe a new Nintendo IP, which if I remember correctly, they're working on. Calm your jets, boys and girls. The conference sucked, yes, as Nintendo fans and gamers we YEARN to see Nintendo games at a Nintendo E3 conference. But that's not what Nintendo wanted to do. A lot of what they showed was what? Third Party Support. Yes, we know Batman: Arkham City and Mass Effect 3 are already out, but the new gameplay mechanics of the WiiPad, if done right (by Bioware and Rocksteady they should be), they'll be worth getting for those who don't have it. They also have a bunch of support from Ubisoft and other devs making games like Project P-100 and ZombiU (hate the name). Nintendo knows we know they've got their big guns coming, what we don't know based off of history is there is poor third party support on a Nintendo console. This conference, while poorly executed, showed that Nintendo is capable of getting hardcore games for hardcore gamers. Now, we just wait and see. They normally unveil something in the Dev Roundtable, that'll be good, as well as the software presentation tomorrow (I know it's 3DS). GDC, Leipzig, etc. are still between now and the holiday season, they'll be fine. Nintendo doesn't show anything they don't think is close to completion, they're still working on their games.
Nintendo will do fine... It already has a legión of fans thanks to the Wii, all the kiddies like their Mario, and gamers like me may not pick up the wiiU at launch, but eventually I will because Nintendo does make AAA games and I look forward to one day playing my Zelda and Metroid in Hd
They'll do alright. Just because they failed the conference big time doesn't mean their console will fail... And, personally, I'm still looking forward to Pikmin, Aliens, Zombi, Mario, Rayman, and P100. Sure, I wish I could add Retro's game into the mix, but w/e. I'll get it eventually I guess...
As we all know, its software that drives a console past initial early adoption. That being said, Nintendo is by far the worst in this area, and needs to prove to me otherwise before I get sucked in. I regretted buying the Gamecube, and later regretted buying the Wii. Never again.
Well said my friend.. I too was fooled into buying the gimmicky n64 games with a fresh coat of paint.. Even wii had twilight princess (which was awesome but didnt evolve) to launch with.. This has NOTHING
I didn't think Nintendo could fail harder than they did with the Wii......then along comes the Wii U.
wow if wii is a fail, what the hell do you think of that PSVita???
I TOTALLY AGREE & have been hiding from the truth believing that they will finally get it right.. Boy was i wrong.. They honestly & truly believe that ppl want more mii games n whatever else they showed.. AC3 & Castlevania I do want but i REFUSE to buy a system without @ least 3 must have exclusive titles.. & it sure aint mario, pikmin, or mii disney land
Just because they missed the chance to show off doesn't mean that the 1st party games arn't coming. If there is one thing nintendo does right it's 1st party games. The wii U gamepad still looks like a great piece of tech and the doubters will be hushed the moment info of the next 3d mario. metroid, starfox, fzero zelda game is released. just sit tight.
This seems really familiar... oh wait, DS, Wii, and 3DS. The one rule when it comes to nintendo. Never count Nintendo out.
To be fair the 3DS tanked until they started selling it for a loss.
and the ps3 tanked at first, and no one talks about that now.
Wow has it begun already....& i thought the crap the Vita was getting was bad. Oh let me correct that....gaming media in general is BAD. These guys are getting paid to spout out crap...hell i think i am in the wrong business if this is all it takes.
Just give goozernation a "no" vote for "do you like this website?"
Listen. If Nintendo went too big with a launch lineup the 3rd party publishers wouldn't sell any units. I personally think they are trying to install a more varied library before the big heavy hitters show up. For the system to be successful, 3rd parties have to move units on it too. They know they will sell millions of their own down the line.
Thanks for all of the great conversation guys; this is the OP. I'll be honest, the title of my article is perhaps a little too over dramatic. If you read the article it's not all doom and gloom. I'm just trying to figure out how this system is going to succeed based upon it previous audience. I just don't see them coming back for more "Wii". If anything Nintendo should have chosen a different name for the Wii U.
This was Nintendos time to really shine and come out swingin with a new Starfox, Zelda, Metroid and Pokemon for the wii U. But, I was sadly disappointed. I really wanted to hear of a new Starfox. So far they havent got me sold.. Yet. Hopefully throughout the year they make me think otherwise. Something that will make me want it bad!
LOL Anything to get their website "Adchoice" links a few hits to make some $$$... Flame bait strikes once again...
I just hope every console which has been severely targeted by all this doom and gloom articles this generation prove this people wrong. Seriously its getting tiresome to see all this negativity.
