Nintendo underwhelms at E3 2012

Carl B of iNintendo.net writes, "One of the first things Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said when he appeared on stage was that this year, for Nintendo, it was all about the games. After an abysmal Microsoft presser and a decent Sony one the day before, it was pretty apparent the Big N was taking a shot at its competitors."

I don't think any of the conferences held any surprises that blew folks away.

So true. Watch dogs was a nice surprise. But I enjoyed the Beyond trailer the most. If Ellen had showed up it woulda been perfect.

Agreed. Very underwhelming. For me there's only two games that stood out (Watch dogs and last of us). Everything else was just more of the same and the onslaught of casual games continues. SEQUELS SEQUELS SEQUELS!. Yawn.

I liked Sony's most.
Nintendo was 2nd.
and Microsoft was last.

I am a Nintendo Fanboy but Beyond (like Heavy Rain) looks great to me.

Um are you nuts? Microsoft had like 4 games and that was it. Nintendo had around 15-16 games that actually were pretty damn good.

IDK, all were extremely meh. I'm more of a Nintendo fan so I liked Nintendo's conference best, but it's like getting a gold medal at the Special Olympics...

Ubisoft had the best one in my opinion. Nintendo's WAS underwhelming given that this was the year they fully introduced their flagship console.

Edit: Sony would've been the best if they had replaced those 20+ minutes of Book of Words/Magic/whatever with something worthwhile

I am a PC person so I do not have any love for Ubisoft but I do think they did better than everyone. I also play the Ps3 and I do not think Nintendo was as bad as I am reading.

Ubi soft = second (1 game doesn't equal a whole conference being good)
Nintendo = third
EA = fourth
Microsoft = fifth

and NOBODY killed it ! it was a very underwhelming E3 all around tbh...

Yeah Studio Yami, but Ubi didn't have only one game. Should gave GOW a small trailer and something else, Agent, Versus, TLG etc a demo. GOW is more of the same and didn't need a 15 minute demo. Anyhow Sony had 1 good trailer/beyond. Gow. And an epic showcase of LoU. Ubi had 3 good games and then a new amazing looking one.

Nintendo and Sony (or Sony and Nintendo)..lol...didn't underwhelm me just didn't overwhelm or announce enough...lol. I wanted to go virtually broke by announcements from them..lol. Between the two, I definitely have great games to look forward to just wish there were much more (WiiU i'm staring at U).

The Last Of Us, Paper Mario, Beyond, Pikmin 3, etc will be awesome games made by incredible developers. Just wanted more.

Nintendo somehow managed to leave out all the juicy stuff I wanted to know like specs, cost and release date.

You'd think if it were coming this year we'd know all that by now.

Still i'd give them second place behind Sony.
Last of Us blew me away, i was expecting it to be similar to Uncharted in terms of gameplay, (cover, fight (although less emphasis on shooting) and would have expected Beyond to take the crown for best game on show but the Last of Us just had never before seen AI which was simply amazing.

I think the main problem here is Sony and Mircosoft are at the end of they console cycle and they really do not have tons to show for this gen. You have developers such as SuckerPunch, GG, Naughty Dog(still had The Last of US which was freaking awesome), and Santa Monica that are making new IP's but they are not for this gen. I agree Ninendo did not make me want to run out a purchase a WiiU it actually talked me into waiting and seeing what they will have later the next year. I don't want to play games that I have already played on other systems I want NEW STUFF. I honestly think Ubisoft did the best this year (hats off to them) So if i had a top 3 it would be

Wow, their showing was bad.

Pikmin 3 was expected but was still nice to see even if I won't play it.

Scribblenauts was cool, the crowd reaction showed that some people were excited about it, but it's not for me.

NSMBU looks just like all the New Super Mario Brothers of recent I just was not excited to see it but it would be the game I'd play at launch by choice.

Batman Arkham City shouldn't have been their first choice to show even with it new features, the game was great but it wasn't causing any gasps.

3rd Party showcase was mostly all things that we have seen before or heard of. Mass Effect 3 was controversial on whether it's good or bad but people cheered for it, Ninja Gaiden 3 on the other hand was not so lucky, I would think they would have avoided it.

ZombiU was the most interesting thing they showed in my opinion it showed off the Wii U's features well even if I don't like survival horror games.

Everything else was mostly uneventful, all they needed was a sneak attack trailer of a metroid/starfox/f-zero somewhere in the middle and a final sucker punch super small teaser at the end for Super Smash Bros.

I really like Nintendo more than the other big 2, I took a day off to watch only their conference but I have to say that Sony (My least favorite) Impressed me the most.

I know that Nintendo has more announcements planned for this week for primarily the 3DS, but to be honest the 3DS did not have to impress me, the lingering upcoming titles from last E3 did that. The Wii U needed to impress, and it didn't do that at all aside from the cool social features. TGS here we come.

Despite the laughs and jokes, they were really trying break our attention away from the inevitable, there lack of plans with the console. how it works, what games are coming for it, launch price plan. None of that was really talked about.
