Square released a new Tomb Raider trailer which is looking like a far cry from its predecessors and more akin to the Uncharted series.
If there's one thing that's good about this new reveal is that there's no GUNPLAY mechanics. Uncharted unfortunately had 3rd-person shoehorned it limiting exploration for gameplay. I hope TR goes back to it's roots with minimal enemies with more exploration. But those set-pieces.. urgh...
Yeah, the new trailer reminded me more of Uncharted than the TR of old. The trailer still looked good though. I kind of expected more since the game has been in development for some time now, but I was still impressed by the trailer and I'm glad the game finally has a solid release date.
Yeah i miss the CORE games on PSOne the crystal dynamic tomb raiders never came close to the atmosphere of the original ones.... but we must move on and there is a more action focused audience these days. Ive been reading a lot of comments on some forums regarding this trailer and people are claiming this will be their 1st tomb raider game! haha now i feel old =( they would probably look at me like im crazy if i showed them tomb raider 1 and told them it was the most amazing game i had ever played back in the day lol
I think there's enough room for the two series to co-exist. When's the next Uncharted game coming out anyway? At least TR is a multi-format game so everyone can experience it.
Well if I had to choose between a strong guy and a wimpy young woman to take into a fight I'd pick the guy. :P
I'd take Drake just because of his wisecracks and humor... Though honestly, I hope Tomb Raider is less action, more exploration. As Uncharted is mostly about action, it would be nice for a polar opposite in the same genre. Though, it is looking to be more geared toward action from what I can see in the trailer at least. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Regardless, the game looks great!
It'd be sad if people argued over which franchise is better because of an opinion. They are both great and co-exist together.
yes, tomb raider is going to be incredible, i cannot wait for the pre-order bonuses for the game.
More like the "old" girl is back.
Uncharted isn't moving anywhere. It's sitting on its gaming throne with: 1.9.6 meta (highest hd exclusive ever on consoles. 2. The highest awarded game of all time. 3. the best console graphics money can buy. Im excited for the next tomb raider game, but for lara to go toe to toe with drake is bad for lauras health.
Metascores? Awards? tentonsoftube...do you ACTUALLY play videogames? Serious question.
No, i dont like video games, im just really excited when e3 comes, i love gaming news, i found this website i have tons of platinum trophies....
@ logic: dont even bother asking. reading what he writes, he is either a paid sony employee, or a very sad teenage fanboy. my money is on the latter
@tokugawa- Actually, after taking a quick look at his comment history...well, lets just say that tentonsoftube is of the "special" variety.
Uncharted is a damn good series, but it's not the king. Nobody is really the king. Tomb Raider looks impressive. It might also have a few tricks up it's sleeves. Don't dis it.
As far as the genre it's in, Uncharted owns what it set out to do. Whether this new Tomb Raider heads that direction remains to be seen, but while they are different in their own way, this team is clearly after some of the Uncharted crowd. Fortunately for me, I appreciate them both and buy accordingly. I personally prefer Tomb Raider's feel of puzzles, exploration, and atmosphere, but acknowledge that Uncharted, in this type of setting, is the one to beat.
If all the shooters can co exist then these two def can in there own genre
Dat sensational headline.
don't take it seriously. =p
Msxbox again. I'm sure there's better wording to be used as a headline, rather than the one picked. It will be eaten up, and they know it. :(
Series desperately needed a reboot. Hopefully they saw how Uncharted pushed their jungle-adventurer genre forward and decided to build upon it to reach the next level. Not a shabby tag team, Nate and Lara.
Classic trolling from msxbox-world. Torture oneself...
I can see that people are just itching to jump to say Tomb Raider is better. You can't wait to say that can you? People are so bitter that Tomb Raider hasn't really made a worthwhile game in quite a while and UC came and took the adventure throne away from it.All you see it as an opportunity to diss UC. All I have seen so far with Tomb Raider is that so far it looks just as linear as people claim UC to be and they are concentrating too hard on making Lara bruised, broken up and dirty through out the whole game. I mean really do I have to watch Lara limp along, being tossed around and beat up by guys and struggle to survive through out the whole game? I already had a hard time watching Drake limp along with his ribs all busted up freezing to death in a barren wasteland and now I have to watch Lara groan and cry and limp for most of the game? I sure the hell hope not.
I kind of feel the same way in regards to people trying to diss UC at any given opportunity. I don't really get why people bash UC for it's linearity when that's the core of Uncharted... it's like bashing Skyrim for being too open... As far as Tomb Raider goes.. the trailer looked good. People should be open to this new TR game.
Easily one of the best trailers I have seen in a long time and at the moment, my most anticipated game. Been a Tomb Raide fan since the PS1 days so I am really happy to see Lara back in top form. Just hope the final product lives up to this awesome trailer. As for MSX-box, people should not take them seriously. Both games are great and as someone that is sick and tired of FPS (apart from Halo) more games like Uncharted and Tomb Raider are highly welcome.
Ohhh msxbox.com ..... microsoft and xbox on the site name.... trolling like crazy again... why don't you guys try some Uncharted games before? maybe that headline will be edited after you do it. I love me some Tomb Raider games, but all the last Tomb Raiders were hyped as "a franchise reboot" remember? And they all kinda sucked, not very bad, but never even quite good either.
You either buy Tomb Raider 2013 or not. No one is forcing anyone. On a side note. Only the top three which are Tomb Raider 1,2 and 3 only made the most sales, which were for PS1. Every other sequel and or port was a failure. By any means, I'm not bashing TR, but TR fanboys shouldn't be bashing Uncharted when they're totally different and only top 3 TR games sold the most. I'll be picking this up later on, but sadly this probably won't top Uncharted sales. Even though they are similar and different at the same time, it seems TR is more geared towards action this time around and taking similar mechanics from Uncharted.
I don't know about you guys but I liked and hated what I saw in the trailer. I liked the fact that it looks like a great survival epic with great graphics etc, but I hated how its nothing like Tomb Raider. Lara sounds Australian, she doesn't kick anyone's ass and all she seems to be doing is falling over, getting beaten up and injured whilst screaming her head off like Maria Sharapova. I'll definately buy this but the Tomb Raider fan in me is dissapoint.
The screaming does get a little annoying, but remember, This is Lara's first adventure.
Thing is though, we bought the Tomb Raider games as escapism, to play as a woman who can run and jump around shooting and look great doing it. In this it seems to be more about chopping bits of wood to make fire and hunting deer than shooting mercs, T-rexs, tigers, wolves and other endangered/extinct creatures. I guess we'll have to play a demo to get a better idea as to how this game will play, but right now this is no Tomb Raider.
That actually looks really good. Its looks to be definitely on the Uncharted level. Maybe a bit better in some areas. Looking froward to it. Firts we get Halo 4, another Gears, Tomb Raider, and Hitman.
