Critical Hit! Diablo III’s Disappointing Narrative

This article contains spoilers. Not the light, “I didn’t really give anything away,” debatable kind of spoilers, but the rock solid, no-doubt-about-it kind. Do not proceed if you prefer not to have any plot points spoiled. We cannot make this clear enough. However, if you’ve beaten the game on Normal, or you simply don’t give a damn about spoilers; stay a while, and listen… (Diablo, Diablo 2, Diablo III, PC)

Disappointed? It was presented far, far better than any of the previous Narratives in the Diablo universe, which were so sparsely told as to barely cohere at all.

Diablo III is a major step forward in terms of presentation. Quality-wise, yeah, it's not great, but it's servicable... which is exactly all anyone with half a brain expects from Blizzard.

If you want to whine about Diablo III, whine about the always-online. That's a legitimate issue. Whining about it's storytelling is as pointless and groundless now as it was ten years ago when Diablo II was being compared to Shadows of freaking Amn.
