It might have pretty good games don't get me wrong but still I don't understand the fact that it sells almost 10 times the amount Vita sells. Come on the games are not THAT good right?
Kingdom hearts my friend. The hardware is not that amazing. However , the software is:) Every kid played mario. For me i played mario world 1 and mario world 2 and the six golden coins ( The best mario world ever in my opinion). And as i mentioned before kingdom hearts.
Plus Monster Hunter. That's huge in Japan. The remake for 3DS isn't even a new game and it has sold around 1.5 million units on the 3DS in Japan alone.
Anyway, 3DS is really dominating in Japan. I imagine Vita sales will pick up too once some heavy hitters arrive. PS3 holding its own pretty well too.
If only we could go back in time. Imagine the expectations here on N4G about system sales, now compare that with reality. I fully expected Japan to shaft the XBOX and the recent one and the next one. I didn't expect them to ignore Vita though. Just goes to show how times have changed, even in Japan.
The problem with the Vita in Japan is cause the PSP is still a viable platform over there. There are many good games being made for the system, it is dirt cheap, & like the Vita it can play digital games (on a cheaper memory format) plus it is arguably the most pirated system of all time.
I also believe that Sony is not too concerned at the moment for the Vita sales or they would have cut the price like what the 3DS did when it was not selling. The reason is that the Vita is making a small profit with each system sold, add to the fact that the PSP has been making a profit since day one. So sales of these are not that big a deal for Sony...yet.
Interesting to see sales for the Vita once Persona 4 Golden is released in a few short weeks. Unless it is also being released digitally as well than we won't know what sales could be since digital sales aren't included.
I think as well, that the psp is blocking people from moving forward in purchasing Vita. Not to mention that people wouldn't have to make this choice if the Vita was backward compatible with psp. I hope that Sony learns this with PS4, because it must be compatible with PS3 for them to spur sales from PS3 to PS4 properly.
Its somewhat the same predicament the PS3 faced when it first released, because even towards the end of its life the PS2 was getting top-quality games made for it, plus it was inexpensive and had a massive library of games.
I honestly believe the vita is already being sold with only a slight profit. It would not surprise me if SONY cannot drop the price. PS3 took forever to get it's first price drop. 3ds didn't have hd processing and a plasma touchscreen display.
the 3ds got the handheld market on lockdown in japan at the moment.

I just have a feeling theres alot of people waiting in the wings for some good games to come out.
