Square Enix has quitely confirmed that the previously-promised new trailer for Final Fantasy XIV will skip E3 and now be revealed instead in August as part of a larger marketing campaign.
(Final Fantasy XIV, PC, PS3)
I think with how badly their Japanese arm bombed early this gen with either flops or successes that were far too expensive to develop, their entire focus for the rest of the gen is on the Eidos stuff.
Who'd have thought Eidos would be the dominant force of that company by the end of the gen at the start of it? Crazy.
Lousy company. I am not even giving vXIII the benefit of the doubt. Square-Enix ran out of gas a long time ago and just couldn't make a remotely decent game this whole generation. The last good FF was over a decade ago. FFX was ok but not amazing. But FFXIII I purchased on launch against my better judgement in hopes it'll be at least as good as X. I was only fooling myself.
Just because they're not showing off the trailer they originally had planned doesn't mean they won't be showing anything there at all. It's probably just promotional stuff and things we've already seen to the E3 audiences.
However, if you actually read the article instead of just the title of the post you would have already figured out that they are indeed releasing not only the new trailer soon "after" E3, but a new promotional website, and a slew of other things centered around the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy XIV 2.0.
Now, you're probably wondering why they are saving it for "after" E3 instead of at E3, well, I wondered the same thing myself for a few seconds until I continued reading, and they explained that they rather release the trailer with a boat load of goodies and surprises to go along with it, instead of just a trickle of hope and then several months again without anything new to latch onto.
Sure, it's disappointing that they aren't promising us what they had us expecting, but in all honesty, I think it'll be better for us in the long run, since this game is indeed relaunching within 4-5 months from now.
So hold onto your butts and relax. They'll deliver.
SE just totally sucks this gen.

It's hilarious that Eidos has to carry them this E3.
