Personally I think its hilarious, and it lead to one of the best times in gaming history. All of that heated competition was great for us.
But no matter who you side with, the world of big business is full scale corporate warfare 24/7. And that's how the players see it. They know its a battle. There are no friendships, there are no loyalties, and people take betrayal very seriously. Especially if your culture is strict, and it values things like honor and loyalty. (And formality)

No what happen was that sony and nintendo were going to make a console called the nintendo playstation back in the 90s. Sony was going to have soul right to the CD tech and nintendo didnt like that. So nintendo went behind sony's back and talked panasonic. Sony didnt appreciate the backstabbing by nintendo and went on to make the ps1. Thats why they would never merge.

They almost DID put one out as either a CD-ROM attachment for SNES or an all new system alltogether. After many disagreements between the two companies, Sony released the PlayStaton on their own, Nintendo partnered with Phillips then abandoned CD-ROM technology and stuck with cartridges for one more generation, while Phillips released the ill-fated CD-i.
Exactly. And Sony proved that they didn't need Nintendo to succeed. I think their ideas of gaming were and are to different for them to be partners. A partnership needs synergy and as we saw in the past they couldn't work it out. Just because you both are in the same industry doesn't mean you can automatically get along

In competition rivals often take what is there and improve on it. If Nintendo had 'copied' Sony instead of stubbornly sticking to cartridge they wouldn't have had two failed systems and lost such a big piece of market share.
Even now Nintendo is using Sony's AR cards idea for their 3DS. If a company has a good idea it's very stupid of the other company not to use it if it means profit for you. You think any company cares about fanboy's cries of copying? If they did then they wouldn't have bothered to use the double joysticks idea Sony had for their controller so they wouldn't be branded as copying Sony.
I all honestly we would see a far less popular gaming market. I feel the competition between Sony and Nintendo in the early years lead to them both seeking a broader market.

No one said Sony invented the camera but they did invent the camera that detected motion, Used AR Cards and played games on a console. The camera on the Dreamcast and the Gameboy didn't do that at all. So when people say 'Kinect copied Eyetoy' stop using those as examples. It's not the same thing. Kinect is closer in design to an Eye Toy. I can't believe you got agrees for saying that. It doesn't make any sense.

With Sony building the CD-addon to SNES and the whole Nintendo fucking Sony over and Sony going FUCK THAT and releasing a console standalone instead of the intended 50/50 Nintendo/Sony console. Similar enough in my mind being that Sony was responsible for what they were going to aim for a strong add-on that still would've failed like N64's attempt afterwards of add-ons.
