The new hot feature for multiplayer isn’t a mode type, a perks system, or even a mute button. It's a story...the one thing that might not actually belong.
I don't think I've actually played a multiplayer game that had a "narrative" but I like the idea in theory. Of course, it doesn't add a whole lot, but I think it can still add an extra layer to what is otherwise just "NOW IT'S DEATHMATCH TIME KILL THOSE PEOPLE."
I don't need deeply nuanced characters and themes to take and hold a Crazy Kings hill. I need a rocket launcher AND FURY.
I have chortles... NOW I HAVE FURY!!!
if the narrative put into multiplayer feels forced and unnatural, then I agree. but if the designers find a way to add it in a way that adds enjoyment to a game and does not feel forced, then i'm all for it
Hot feature since when? Max Payne 3 is the only game I have played in I think ever that had a narrative and it does it quite well...
Halo 4 is going to be doing it. That's why there is so much talk about it. All they have said they are giving each team a reason to be fighting.
Brink tried it too. That's all I can think of. Unless if you want to count KZ3 too.
NEED? Maybe not. But if done well, it certainly doesn't HURT.
When playing action games like Streets of Rage you don't bother with story because all that;s in your mind is to win.
