Man, those Expos always had the most awesome free swag, it'll be exciting to see if they can keep it up with more people flooding in...

Yeah, I used to work at GS some years back as a SGA and always got nice swag from there when the store managers came back.

Unfortunately the swag became a bunch of fliers and promises of games down the road. The last one I went to was Aug. 2010 in San Antone, and it was fun, but I think I'll wait til it comes back to Vegas and make the 15 minute drive to the Mandalay next year.

PAX Prime, which is in August as well, is more than enough for me for one month.

But I guess this is nice for those who would like to go.

Also:(This is GS trying to get more money)

I'm wondering...

What is the general consensus of GameStop? How do you people see them? Are they the bad guy, simply looking for another buck...or are they the good guy, giving gamers a cheaper solution?

This is for a documentary, btw. This article brings up many questions and I'd love some input from the community. :)

They are just a store. I generally shop there for new releases because they end up getting solid preorder bonuses and the prices will be the same anywhere locally. I also have every intention of preordering my Xbox 3 and Playstation 4 there and paying it off over time. I think that is what I like the most. I recently got the R2D2 Xbox and paid it off 50 bucks at a time every few weeks just so I didn't have to drop it all on the spot. It's just easier. Throw down an extra 20 here, 50 there. Worked out perfect.

Outside of release day, I only buy stuff there when they are doing buy two, get one free on used games. Best Buy and Target usually put stuff on sale sooner.

Best Buy also has much higher trade-in values and better deals. And the rewards programs aren't even in the same league. Best Buy is better at gaming than GameStop by a long, long shot.

Only talked about Best Buy because you mentioned it, DarthJay. GameStop is just a store with Game in the name. Neither good or bad.

Thank you guys for the responses! :)

If Best Buy allowed you to do more than just put $5 down on preorders and did a better job with midnight releases, I'd probably go there more often. I also had a bad preorder experience with Star Wars: The Old Republic at Best Buy which soured me on preordering anything from them.

I just purchased my VIP package... only a 3 hour drive so well worth it to play the latest games for the holiday season :)
