Over 3 Million Copies of Max Payne 3 Sold Since Launch

DualShock Nexus: Take-Two Interactive recently revealed the first week sales data for Max Payne 3.

Well deserved. With Rockstar games you always know you'll get much bang for the buck. One of the best single player experiences this gen and awesome multiplayer to boot.

I haven't heard that many great things about its multiplayer. Though I have heard that the bullet time was implemented well and the multiplayer is decent.

It needs some work, but it is otherwise very good. The story affecting the way the online maps/modes play out is a great feature. More games definitely need to implement something of the sort.

The game is so crafty and the bullet time is just right.Im not a fan of the MP just not a big fan of 3rd person mp thats all but the SP is a gem.Dark,Gritty great voice acting and by far the best soundtrack in a game that I have ever heard.The Sp is worth the $60 to me.Just cant get enough it.I wouldnt pass this game up at all its worth the buy.

original max payne hipster. He really liked part 1 and 2 but you probably never heard of them.

When Max payne is no longer popular he will get it and play and tell everyone who already played and beat it how awesome it is now more then ever.

Well not always, but usually when rockstar north develops the game themselves its good. Some of the other branches of rockstar are mediocre. I'm glad rockstar north did the PC version and didn't just hand it to one of the mediocre studios, can't wait to see what they can do... Its been way too long.

Id consider manhunt as their only "mediocre" franchise and i'm pretty sure North has handled most of its development..

Manhunt is an awesome game picked and prodded by the censors which changed the product. Manhunt 1 was spectacular . Manhunt 2 after it was picked away to get a 17 rating was unfortunately not as good.

Rockstar Vancouver was the main developer(the other rockstar studios include New England,London,Toronto)- Rockstar north has nothing to do with this game, they are working on GTA 5 (and agent).

Well deserved, but there are games out there that deserve that and more. Redbox it cause it doesn't have online pass, totally worth it.

And yes, the game is gorgeous, like Uncharted.

Oh yeah the game is Awesome, like anything it has a few problems, Nothing serious, really minor and overall it's amazing... Rockstar just shows that they are building on everything they have learned before..

-and doing an amazing job at it, 3 million is nice and well deserved, some of the boards are designed so well, everything just looks really good, you could say it's a nice early look at what you can expect to see in GTA V -well designed inside area's and really nice graphics, as the detail is crazy, and the boards are really well done, just looks really good..

That part when your on the boat, I remember thinking dam this is done so well just looks amazing.. Little advice don't put the brightness too low leave it a little brighter then recommend as it actually looks better when it's a little brighter... guess it depends on your TV or HD monitor but the detail in the game is there... trust me, and it looks amazing.

At first I thought the mp was iffy, but it really kicked into high gear. Awesome story, and its one of the few games that you want to replay.

I've been watching a friend play through it after copping it from Gamefly. Story seems legit. In some parts of this game, I've seen graphics as good on the PS2. Believe.

i was only interested in single player and i like it for me it was a 8/10. From what i understand MP is very good just a bit slow progression.

its a RS game so you it will do between 5-10 million

F7U12: I rented it and beat it in one sitting. I think with so many games we all have to smart where we spend the money.

What kind of crap patch they released yesterday.. after install the patch 1.02 Max Payne 3 multiplayer became unplayable. I spend all the to play a decent game but I game screen freezes on matchmaking, between game I found I am single player who is running in map, Unable to join friebd's party, Console hang and shut down atomatically.... Plz Rockstar do something otherwise you loose player everyday. i found MW3's Lag is far better than this...

Games don't need to be ground breaking to be great games. They just need to be fun to play. And there's still no news on Agent after all these years so I wouldn't get your hopes up too much for any info on it soon.

It could just be vapourware for all we know. It is taking a hell of a long time to turn up, and I doubt they will do anything about it while GTA5 is being made.

when the PS2 was still in its prime a game called GTA III was under the radar. until the news came out and how super the game was..it was a hit.
it became a staple in the gaming world.

If Rockstar put out the perfect game there would be people complaining just to be the contrarian. This doesn't prove it, since MP3 isn't perfect (only really good), but you get the point.

A few sites / magazines have gone as low as 7/10 though. And, after having rented the game , I know what they mean. Half an hour to an hour in to the single player game during my rental, I was struggling to get past sections even on easy. But also- was it really everyone's experience that the gameplay of the first 2 Max Payne games was just all about shooting a wave of enemies in an arena camoflauged as a level, like a light gun game, over and over again? To me, the first 2 games were more true to the platform game type of genre - you could walk around for quite a bit sometimes without facing enemies. The first 2 games didn't usually insist that you move on in case you don't meet the schedule as Max Payne 3 insists.
It's not really an 'adventure' in the sense of the first 2 games- it might as well be regarded as an on rails shooter, just with longer cut scenes. They've taken notes on some key hallmarks of the first 2 games
but it's a much more typical action movie game than the first 2 games so bear that in mind.

Both articles I've linked to are pretty clear that these are shipped numbers and aren't the number for units sold.

Dualshock Nexus makes no mention of this fact and neither does the title. It should be adjusted to reflect what was actually said during the earnings call and in the report.

Goes to show what happens when you add the Rockstar brand to a title and with it's huge marketing campaign.

Still, Max Payne 3 is a blast to play. I absolutely love it.

This game is incredible. It's definitely up there with Uncharted for sure! Sure, you can't climb and there's no puzzles, but sometimes Uncharted games become a chore to re-play because you know all the puzzles and there's only so much climbing you can stand before it becomes a chore.

Max Payne 3 is awesome because you can just feel like a badass and shoot things. To watch the environment break apart, papers flying everywhere, bottles breaking, wood splintering and glass shattering in slow motion is a real spectacle.

I'm glad it sold a lot.

That's nice for you but I was doing that in 2003 with Max Payne 2 which is one of the first major games to use Havok physics. The first 2 games were surreal masterpieces and should probably be regarded as superior to part 3 for that alone.

Why should they be regarded as superior though? Just because they came out first? I think nostalgia wants you to think they're superior.

The original games were good, don't get me wrong. I'm not hating on them but I can't see how they're superior to Rockstar's euphoria engine. Seeing guys roll down a stair case realistically is pretty sweet and euphoria gives you realism that Max Payne 1 or 2 just couldn't achieve.

Nostalgia does some tricky things to the brain but don't fall for it.

Also, a lot of people miss the comic book style cutscenes, but the cutscenes in Max Payne 3 are very cool. I like how it's motion, then frame, then motion, then frame. It keeps you from getting bored during the cutscenes.

Not because they came out first. Because of the nightmarish scenes such as the restaurant or the fun house. Because of the tongue in cheekness of the first game in particular, which oddly and uniquely added to the sinister tone, where it was clear that people who just happened to be in the office at the time were used as actors. I could argue because of that alone that the first game in the series was the best. It all depends on what you look for in a game and no reviewer can make up your mind for you on that. Max Payne 3 looks like a game worth finishing but it might have taken its name a bit too literally when your character is almost constantly in pain from trying to avoid enemies. They haven't polished what the second did so much as taken some elements from it and Rockstarred it. Maybe that makes it worth a high score on its own terms but it feels more a hardcore on rails shooter to me whereas the first 2 games were more truly psychological adventures.
