TERA producer explains what exactly a game producer does

TERA producer Chris Hager: “So, what exactly do you do? I bet you get to play games all day.”

“Well, I produce things. I product-manage, schedule various departments, and integrate everything into a smooth-running live service, while also looking to the future of the product based on design and player feedback.”

“Okay…but seriously, you must play games all day.”

This was a recent conversation I had with a friend when I tried to explain what I do. Being a producer on TERA is full of challenges, but one of the most surprising challenges is describing exactly what it is that I do. Allow me to back into this explanation.

WoW is a mess and it will continue to be a mess. Still, the less-developed MMOs are going to have trouble gaining a fan base because they lack content right now. Even if people do flock to FF14 or BDO, they'll go back to WoW if they fix enough features or give players a shred of hope.
