I have been a fan of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books for several years now. When I heard HBO was going to be adapting the series for television, I was elated. When I heard that French developer Cyanide Studios was making a video game adaptation of the show, I was nonplussed. I’ve seen my share of bad adaptations of film and television productions before—the bargain bins at any GameStop or EB Games are right boneyards of quickly thrown together blockbuster cash-ins such as Green Lantern: The Game and the like. So I was shocked to learn that Game of Thrones had actually been in development for seven years, and still looks sketchy at best. Needless to say, I didn’t have high hopes for the game, and yet it still managed to disappoint me.
