Black Ops 2: Set in the Future but it Still Looks Like the Past

PixlBit | Earlier this month Treyarch released the surprising official reveal trailer of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Fans and Critics alike commended Treyarch’s futuristic vision. No longer pitted in the cliché recesses of historic conflicts, Black Ops 2 looks to share its vision of the future, and it’s one loaded with lethal robots! However, while the change of scenery certainly is refreshing, I can’t help but wonder – Is it really that different?

The story is too old to be commented.

Star Wars is set in the past but looks like the future.

Everything about the game looks futuristic except the engine.

CoolBeansRus2397d ago

Exactly. Set in the future with a engine from the past. It can be pulled off as long as their gameplay/motion is smooth. I do believe in gameplay>graphics.

I agree as well, this article is actually more about discussing if the current set pieces used in the series allow for flexibility with the narrative.

I don't really think that they do, but that's not a bad thing necessarily. Black Ops 2 will likely be a great game, I just don't think it's going break the mold as far as call of duty games are concerned.

Too bad COD's gameplay sucks

GraveLord2397d ago

I'll take gameplay over graphics any day for online games.

Yeah, so far its kind of a joke. I hope what they've been showing is early/ Alpha work. If not then I see no change to the cod series, just a continuous vicious cycle many fall for.

So what if the engine is basically the same if the game is fun?

AngelicIceDiamond2397d ago (Edited 2397d ago )

As you know the engine makes up the gameplay like destructibility and physics and over all realism. The game might be "fun" but if there's no change to the engine(or very little) then you'll be playing Black Ops 1.5 just how ppl are playing Modern Warefare 1.5 and I don't want that.

To be completely honest. This story-line intrigues me because this could actually happen. Now war isn't very different. You go in and you kill some people launch a few missals and who ever does the most damage usually wins.

I am interested what else this game has in store. And honestly only moving 13 years in the future was a good move because it isn't too far along that I expect some crazy nonsense.

Wall81882397d ago

I agree, and I wasn't actually trying to say that the fact that BO2 may not be that different is a bad thing.

In fact you'd be hard press to argue that the Call of Duty series aren't some of the best designed games out there. Granted they are formulaic, but that does not stop them from being well made games, and I'm sure this one will be no different.

Thanks for the comment. If you guys want to talk about this more please come comment on the website, cause I can only put 3 comments here :(.
