it looks like the new one is sleeker and much thinner. the buttons arrangement has changed too. the XYBA buttons have moved a little bit to the screen and the -+ buttons are now on the left side of the controller.
P.S what the hell is that square thingy under the D-pad and between the power button and the green LED?
now if only the Wii U's controller had actual triggers instead of buttons, then i'd really consider getting it. at least this is a step in the right direction.
@crXss: there aren't many shots of that angle of the controller, but it does have analogue triggers though! It has buttons and analogue triggers, pretty much everything one needs in a controller.
good point. i can definitely get use to it. only bad thing about the pic is that this pretty much kills all the wii u name change rumors. was hoping for something a lil more super nintendoish
This is legit. Alot of haters on here screaming about the Wii U controllers sucks but fail to realize that what Nintendo showed is not the final build and they are adding and making changes as we speak.
The guy from Gears Box that was praising the Wii U controller might have a more advance version of the controller so you people shouldn't be so quick to jump on him for saying that he is impressed.
Question: Has Nintendo filed for the patent for the Wii U controller yet? This would make it very hard for Sony or MS to try and copy if the Wii U takes off.
I still think no matter what they do to it it is going to feel like you are holding a tea tray or a big hardback book sideways. Ergonomics mean nothing?
Besides this humans only have 2 hands and short thumbs. It'll be one of those things where devs have to choose to use the normal controls or dump a load onto the screen, because you won't be quickly using both together in a game particularly easily. The screen is much larger than a DS.
I just still feel like it is a gimmick that doesn't really add anything game changing. It is less innovative than the motion controller Wii had, we have already seen this sort of thing on DS and i was never really excited for it to come to a home console.
If you are realistic you just know only Nintendo will use the controller well, and everybody else will go along with what we already know. Porting their games across from more popular platforms, shoving some weak screen functionality in there and saying job done.
Shovelware central once again. Prove me wrong, but i suspect i won't be and core gamers will quickly forget all about this as soon as Sony and Microsoft show their new hardware.
Actually it looks like the most amazing controller ever made..damn this thing looks hot-I guess though instead of advancing the medium we should just stick with the "status quo"
I think there needs to be some genuine justification to slap a big screen in the middle of my controller. By that, I mean a lot more than maps or inventory.
If there is, then fair enough.
If there isn't, then I'll stick with what I have, thanks.
That is correct. Things are just getting better and better for the Nintendo Elite gamers of the world today.
Nintendo is clearly listening to the wishes of its loyal supporters, and providing the people a top notch requested gaming controller that does it all.
Every Elite Nintendo gamer from all walks of life will find something positive about the Nintendo Wii U entertainment system tablet control functions that stand before us.
The Nintendo Wii U entertainment system controller scheme is on a set course to change the very industry we game in today. E3 2012 can not come soon enough.
They also changed their position there are much closer to the edge then before, like right up against it when before there were directly above the buttons.
I just hope that each controller doesntn't cost >$60.. When Smash Bros comes out people are going to be made. Unless you could use GameCube controllers. Nintendo isn't going for the Third Party controller makers neither haha They could just make decorative sleeves now
people throw controllers in a rage all the time i wonder how well it would hold up to that, maybe they should make a stap with it, dont want to throw an expensive controller around.
Isn't the official word that only one Wii U tablet controller would be necessary? That they would not be selling additional Wii U controllers through standard retail channels?
There was a report from awhile back that stated the tab controller cost 50$ to make. I would think they would sell at retail for about 60~80 if this report is totally factual(consider it a rumor for now.), but 100 is also a distinct possibility.
nintendo you have failed me for the last time, we dont need another wii upgrade when are yall gonna learn to get into the real gaming world and stop with the kid consoles
nothings going to be that much different on the new console it just has some changes and a few tweaks made to it but its still the same console to me. graphics are still going to look the same im not impressed with the design
Awww cliffy boy, real gaming is whatever I deem it to be. If I enjoy playing Zelda, Mario and Metroid games with the odd Nintendo MP focused game for when you have people over.
When are YOU going to realize that your feelings on things or your opinion of what a game is or should be IS NOT a infallible fact.
Enjoying everything is far easier then looking like...you.
lol ok i like playing zelda too! i have a wii but whats going to make the wii u soo much different or better than the original wii. nintendos too cheap to even install a dvd player in their consoles. its just the same console with a little bit of tweaks added to it
actually i did with every console that micro and sony came out with the graphics and games got more impressive, the only thing thats different about the wii u is its design, but the graphics are going to remain the same
Its not so much that its "ugly" but the thing isn't even out yet and it already looks ancient to me. Like a 90's laptop or something.
Hey, as long as the games are fun and make good use of the features, GREAT! But if it was my call, I just would have gone with a sleeker design for this controller. Put the sticks and buttons closer to the screen and trim off some of the fat on the outside of the casing. Capacitive touch screen with dual cameras and we're in business!
I agree. It looks hideously cheap. Aesthetics alone, it reminds me of those plug and play games you see in Toys R Us next to the board games. Whether it functions like a champ, I'll reserve judgement until after e3.
Also, if this is the same as that patent, then the controller is arched to fit a hand better (kinda looks like a nunchuck from the side) http://esearch.oami.europa.... (edit: here's a better image, that patent just shows the shell http://www.abload.de/img/2y... )
Edit: tried to find the patent for the original controller side view, but all I could find was an image from the patent. http://www.abload.de/img/2a...
I think the buttons just shouldn't be bellow the analog stick, it'll take some time to get used to that. Hopefully, there will be a classic remote to play fps with, this doesn't look like a great controller to do it with.. But then again I don't buy nintendo consoles to play fps.
not only did the analogs change, but if you compare the 2 controllers you can see the + and - buttons were changed to the right side, and there is a new button that wasnt on the previous controller(at least i cant see it) by the power button, probably the start button
edit: there are actually 2 new buttons, the one by the power an another below the d-pad. Also judging by the border around the home button, thats probably gonna have a nice looking blue light to indicate its on
edit2: continuing the examination, if you consider that the 2 cables at the top are for recharging and use in the dev kit, we still have another connection below thats propietary but doesnt match the connection used on the wii motes, so who knows what that thing is for
Unlike it seems most peole here I don't play my games at an angle where I can just use my eyes, I play with my control basically where my pectorialis major ends cause that's the angle I play at because it's most comfortable and if I am chilling in bed I plays with the covers over me. So this screen thing doesn't work for me.
People who disagreed I understand why you did as your playing style must be different from mine but as you can see wii U won't work for me as that's the style I am most comfortable with. I was okay for the wii as I bought th classic controller add on.
*EDIT* Don't get me wrong I love the Idea and it's great the included analog now but I don't like the two screens might buy it for my living room and use it for parties.
I had a play on the Vita not so long ago & my only critism about the devise was the dual analogue stick placement. When playing using the DPad and face buttons, for me, the sticks seem to get in the way. I think the positioning of the analogue sticks on the Wii U Pad might solve that problem. I'm personally looking forward to testing it out for my self. I think it looks great, hopefully it feels great too.
I think they are clickable, and the +&- buttons being closer to x/y/b/a might make for easier useage in a fighting game if need be. Definitely looks like a possible final design, seeing as how none of the mock ups before had the WiiU logo stamped on it.
whats the big deal about analogs being clickable?? its hardly used in games other than meelee in some FPS, mostly when they run out of buttons, and considering that the touch screen provides any extra buttons the devs may require.. i dont see why people are worried about that
as you can see from the new model:
http://api.ning.com/files/u...
compared to the older one:
http://api.ning.com/files/o...
it looks like the new one is sleeker and much thinner.
the buttons arrangement has changed too. the XYBA buttons have moved a little bit to the screen and the -+ buttons are now on the left side of the controller.
P.S what the hell is that square thingy under the D-pad and between the power button and the green LED?
i will reserve judgement
hm... according to this the leaked image was one of their initial designs... still confused as to which one they're going to go with.
The guy from Gears Box that was praising the Wii U controller might have a more advance version of the controller so you people shouldn't be so quick to jump on him for saying that he is impressed.

Don't judge a book by its cover, as they say.
It may seem fine at first but that doesn't mean it will still be fine after a few hours of serious button mashing.
If there is, then fair enough.

Wait until E3.

Explain that to me, exactly? lol

...yeah, whatever you say. I dont even want to argue about what you just said.

Not to offend anyone, but I imagine that you think the dualshock 3 looks ancient, like a controller launched in 1997, but painted in black?
Although I do love the new button and stick placement.

Anyone else thing the tablet is unnecessarily large?
I play consoles to relax I don't want to keep moving my head!
