NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 Performance Exposed – Outperforms the HD 7950

Not only is the GTX 670 outperforming the GTX 570 but also the much faster HD 7950 and at times giving around 80% of the performance of a GTX 680 at stock clocks and with overclocked frequencies can reach the 680 levels with ease. The card would be a strong entry in the Kepler lineup though its price is still not confirmed, Some suggest $349 while custom variants would sell for $399+. Official launch date is May 7th.

Oh wow! If that card actually launched for $350 with that kind of performance, it would be huge.

I think AMD would be forced to do another price drop, and the 680 might need a small drop as well. Performance for price would have a new leader.

I was holding out for the 670 and 660 for my PC build. I am definitely excited by this performance and the possibility of 4GB of Ram for non reference designs.

Still cannot understand why they use 3dmark for results.

Games do not use the engine.

Regardless of games not using the 3dmark engine, it's made to push graphics cards to the absurd extremes. Besides at its most basic, it's eye candy.

However, if you're going to use a graphics card for graphic solutions, you'd be better off getting something like an nVidia Quadro or a Tesla. Both of which wouldn't use 3dmark for a benchmark because of the completely different forms of applications.

I do agree with some of what you said, but the problem is, even though these cards are pushed to the extremes with 3dmark etc.

Some games work better on amd or nvidia because, nvidia might be better at certain shaders/shadows/texture throughput/dx11 fx etc.

If you are buying a card for gaming, i'd seriously say, look at what the games you will be playing are getting fps wise with what card and also future engines, UE4, etc. Or games that are made with one type of engine that runs better on some types of hardware etc.

But for something other then gaming, like what you said, Quadro/ telsa.

Even for more than gaming it's a rather meh benchmark . People use it for bragging rights woven into eye candy , so do Ati and Nvidia .

It's still a benchmark , but there are certainly better suited ones to check hardware and raw perfs .

Graphics card manufacturers spent a lot of resources optimising their drivers for synthetic benchmarks like 3DMark to the point of clearly cheating.
