GT5 Functionality Update 2.0

When Gran Turismo 5 launched almost a year ago now, Kazunori Yamauchi, the game’s creator, promised fans clutching their copies of the Real Driving Simulator, that the launch of the eagerly awaited title was not the end of the journey for the game but the start.

would that make Forza 4:
The Simulated Driving Reality

I loved the part where he states that this update would be free. That is an obvious statement because it is being called a "functionality" update.

HeavenlySnipes4584d ago

Do you know how many things they are adding to the game? It isn't just a 'patch'. They are adding interior view for ALL the standard cars, meaning the age old "Well Forza has interior view for everything' argument will be moot

They are adding new NASCARs

Shortening loadtimes

Improving AI and physics

New features for online

and the best part, is that they aren't selling this all packaged as a sequel and calling it GT6. Its all FREE BABY!

Cant wait to see the inside of the team oreca viper

Information Minister4584d ago

Can't wait for fully customizable weather and time of day. Hell yeah!

shikamaroooo4584d ago

And is it true it's coming on the 10th? And dlc is going to release shortly after

Gran Touring4584d ago

Take note developers, THIS is how you do downloadable content. Not selling "extra" content, half the time of which could have been available since release, and not putting a price on every little piece of content distributed. Glad to see Polyphony digital showing continuous support for the fanbase, and addressing their concerns to the fans' benefit, not theirs.

Whackedorange4582d ago

Is that how the charged you for the prolonge, i guess its okey to charge extra in advance but not afterwards that most devs do

Gran Touring4579d ago

GT5 Prologue was available a full TWO AND A HALF YEARS before GT5 was released. It was to provide a taste for GT fans for enduring the long wait, but was simply too small to be considered simply a demo. Actually, there was also free content given out in GT5:P in the form of a...drum roll please... Spec 2.0 update!! The update added over 40+ cars, infrastructure fixes and a few physics improvements. In fact, they added ANOTHER free update, which coincided with the announcement of Ferrari's California and Lotus' Evora. All content unlocked in GT5:P can be transferred over to the full GT5's arcade mode.

You can argue whether the price justifies the purchase or not, but for the fans it more than justified itself, which is why more than 5 million people bought this "demo." If you want an example of a game that didn't justify it's price, and is a clear case of DLC gone awry, then look no further than Halo: ODST. A game which added one new multiplayer mode, (which was good), and a lackluster 5 hour campaign for a full $60. MS simply wanted to milk Halo's fanbase because they know they would shell out for anything Halo.

I know that the prolonge was availible a long time prior to the game was actually released and i bought both the prolongue and the game itself but to me its kind of a prior game release dlc pack. I love both GT and Forza two games that oozes quality but i reacted to the way you said it in the way you said it.

Good I want that update now...

Sad thing is that people will STILL find something to complain about.

Gran Turismo 7 Has a "Really High Number of Active Users", Says Kazunori Yamauchi

The biggest surge in player numbers came after the release of Gran Turismo 7 Spec II in November, the game’s largest and most significant content update since it was released in March of 2022.

“When we released the Spec II update, the number of active users jumped up to double of what it was before that,” Yamauchi-san revealed. “I’ve heard in the video game industry that is quite rare.”

Spec II introduced seven new cars, an all-new snowy rally track, new single-player content, a new rotating set of “Weekly Challenges”, new license tests, four-player split screen, Photomode and Scapes enhancements, and the introduction of the all-new AI system, Gran Turismo Sophy 2.0, as a special mode in the game.

That's Xbox language right there....quick...let's make a dozen articles about how the game is super duper successful

darthv72130d ago

It does seem rather odd choice of wording. Usually they tout specific numbers, or something to that effect.

Babadook7129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

I think the point he is making is that even though the game is old (likely sold very well) it's still making records for active users. I can see two reasons why; PSVR2 is now by far the best way to play the game as of this year, and Spec II just launched which brings a lot more stuff to do, expending peoples play time. I can see why he's interested in the reaction here. Deserved IMO.

Einhander1972130d ago

They don't reveal sales directly, but the series sold over 90m in March of 2022. It was estimated that the game had sold 5.5 million at that time, but the series has historically had long legs. When Spec II launched it was pulled back into the top 20 for example.

Crows90129d ago

Dont think you got my point.

If this was an xbox game it would receive so many articles about its success based purely on active user.

No insulting the game just pointing out the hypocrisy.

PhillyDonJawn130d ago (Edited 130d ago )

"But what are the sales!!!" Lol

VariantAEC128d ago

More than 5 million units. That was announced late last year or early this year (2023).

Stanjara130d ago

No surprise, ps5 selling and the game is most beautiful and approachable racing sim today.

Nacho_Z129d ago

I think people are probably enjoying Sophy, if they release their next game with it featuring as a core component they're on to a winner imo.

Offline racing against an AI that acts like an intelligent human is perfection for a lot of people.

Lightning77129d ago

Player counts are important for a game with LS elements. This much is known even Sony knows this. Of course it's important for a game like this.

Einhander1972129d ago

Yea, it's especially nice when your player counts are high because you were able to sell millions of copies of your game.

Yamauchi: Gran Turismo 7’s Spec II Update ‘Doubled Active Users’

The latest free update for Sony’s idiosyncratic racing game has helped the Gran Turismo series continue its popularity, according to its lead, Kazunori Yamauchi.

eagle21143d ago (Edited 143d ago )

Love it, love it, love it. (Did I say I love it?) :)

Babadook7142d ago (Edited 142d ago )

Sophy is wonderful. I hope they can just turn it on for all races though.

Plague-Doctor27143d ago

This is somehow the game I have put the most time into on my ps5 so far. It also convinced me to add a psvr2 and wheel, which I am both happy I have and angry I bought at the same time lol

outsider1624142d ago

Same here. Just finished a race a few mins ago and came here lol. I came 6th and even then such a fantastic race. Except for 1 or 2 most racers were really clean and respectful.
Planning to get the wheel (sold it to a friend) again along with psvr2.

Between Sophy and PSVR 2, Polyphony is REALLY pushing videogames forward into a whole new era.

crazyCoconuts172d ago

"Gran Turismo has to run on the PlayStation 5, and that means Sophy cannot consume all the computing resources of the machine."
Interesting - I thought at first Sophy was controlled from their server farms. Seems like they've got it running locally.
