EA: PS4 1.50 firmware causes stability issues

According to Electronic Arts, the PS4's 1.50 firmware can cause a PS4 to malfunction.

"Sony has released a firmware update for the PlayStation 4 that is required for many features on the console. However, this update also results in stability issues while playing games on the system.

This affects all games on the PS4, including EA titles, causing crashing/freezing and non-responsive connections between the player's console and their TV Screen."

aceitman3807d ago

no promblems with my games and Ive play 11 games o bought to just try them out and see how they play , battlefield 4 sweet be playing it soon for a longtime.

thereapersson3807d ago

Surprise! Surprise! A Sony firmware update causes system instability. This has never happened before... /S

The thing is, it doesn't seem to be affecting all systems. Is it inevitable or is it determined by the build quality of each box?

Visiblemarc3807d ago (Edited 3807d ago )

Launch firmware issues? Expected.

For the record, mine works fine.

iiwii3807d ago

I hope mine works okay. I'll be picking it up in a n hour

OrangePowerz3807d ago

Surprise, surprise. Of all companies it is EA to say what they think is the issue.

timl2413807d ago

Hardware issues. Software issues. Man, Sony is batting 1.000. I love all the damage control posts. But if this was the Xbox One having issues, man it would be the end of the world for all you people.

UnHoly_One3807d ago (Edited 3807d ago )

I wish I knew. I've been watching the "please wait" for 20 minutes now while it fails to log me into PSN.

Edit:
Going on 2 hours now of failing to log in.

My god Sony sucks so bad.

C-H-E-F3807d ago

I don't have any issues at all neither, I guess being number 1 at best buy getting the 1st ps4 has it's benefits as well. LMFAO

RyuCloudStrife3807d ago (Edited 3807d ago )

So far for me Killzone crashed randomly and sent a report to Sony.

Then while trying to access the store the system froze on me and I had a blue screen even after pressing the power button (I guess it went to stand-by mode as the white light pulsated I wanted to turn it OFF) I had to pull the cord...

SniperControl3807d ago

Feel sorry for the affected players, but glad i am in the UK and getting it in two weeks, gives Sony time to iron out any problems.

DA_SHREDDER3806d ago

who cares if bf4 has stability issues, im playing kz and until i can get on the store, warframe, dcu ( already have 3 characters), and any other game i decide to play, besides bf4, i already played the ps3 version, its better, but not better enough for me.

awi59513806d ago

My ps3 got bricked by a update and those jerks tried to charge me $213 untill it came out i wasnt the only one so the fixed it for free a week later. Come on sony i had enough of that pay to fix crap with the PS1 and PS2.

InTheZoneAC3806d ago

I never had a problem with my ps3 on any firmware since launch...

I am having occasional crashes with the ps4 and bf4 and I can't play conquest...

ShwankyShpanky3806d ago

I'm right there with ya, Visiblemarc.

finbars753807d ago

Same here. I havnt had any problems at all.I have been playing BF4,KillzoneShadowfall,Resogun ,Warframe,Blacklight ect withought one problem. I must have been one of the lucky ones.I did download the patch at 12:15am so maybe thats why not to sure.

SuperBlur3807d ago

what does the time of you downloading the FW has to do with it? lolll <3

finbars753807d ago

Nomercy it actually plays a big part if you actually listen to what they have been saying.I downloaded the patch before all the crazy started therefor my patch wasnt messed with because of the high traffic. My online has been fine and no problems after the patch.Mine only took 2 seconds not minutes. Thanks for being an idiot as usual.

supes_243807d ago

No issue here either. I downloaded the update via USB drive last night and uploaded the patch to my PS4 when I got it earlier today. Some people should've listened to the reports and ateicles telling you to download it early on a USB to avoid sever overload issues.

davekaos3807d ago

I would be willing to bet that those systems with issues downloaded the firmware via ps4 and because of the high network traffic I suspect part of the package corrupted whilst downloading

if you plan on updating do it via usb to be on the safe side

BattleTorn3807d ago

Good to hear, I got my USB ready (for when I pick mine up later today)

vitullo313807d ago

I updated through usb last night when i picked mine up.. even swapped the hard drive for a 1tb and zero problems so far! hope it works out for you guys too!

davekaos3807d ago

Glad the hdd and flash drive upgrade worked fine for you vitullo.

I plan on a 1.5tb hybrid come launch which unfortunately for me is on the 29th.
All firmware updates have been done via usb for me on the ps3 and I have never had an issue plus its quicker

frostypants3807d ago

A corrupted package shouldn't even install. A simple checksum would prevent that...no way in hell do they not verify the integrity of the file before installation.

MarkusMcNugen3807d ago

frostypants is correct. There is absolutely no way they would allow the update to install without some kind of hash check on the file to verify its integrity. Thats patching 101.

Prime1573807d ago

I wonder why you got so many disagrees; no one expressed any issues in replies.

Strikepackage Bravo3807d ago

LMAO at you guys making excuses for Sony, your like a mentally disturbed person rocking back and forth reassuring yourselves everything is going to be ok.

This is BAD, full stop, and if this was Microsoft no one here would be making excuses, you would be calling for the heads of everyone in Redmond Washington, even though you have no plans of buying an Xbox LOL!

BeAGamer3807d ago

you should really get your head checked

srd44843807d ago

You're right though. After seeing so many negative stories here and the comments posted on it, I could only imagine what it be like here if it was the XB1.

DaGR8JIBRALTAR3807d ago

My battlefield kept hanging up on the first mission, when you get on the elevator they just stand there. I deleted the app file and reinstalled....willl see if that helps. Other than that...no problems what so ever (knock on wood).

C0LLAT3807d ago

That's because battlefield needs a patch should be within the next 4-5 days

avengers19783807d ago

My one and only issue so far is that Blacklight will not load. I have redownloaded it a couple times with the same issue. I deleted it and am going to try again in a week or two. Right now warframe, resogun, and KZSF are keeping me pretty busy.

BallsEye3807d ago

People like you, excusing sony's every mistake, make them do miserable job fixing it. They fcked up AGAIN with the updates and we need to let them know we're pissed.

Sayai jin3806d ago

I am enjoying my PS4! I had some trouble logging in to PSN launch night, but it was expected though...everyone was eagerly turning on their beast. The only issue I have had is that the system has locked up 5 times so far and had to reboot in safe mode. I am sure there is a patch incoming.

NeoTribe3806d ago

Well I havnt been able to log in the network all morning. Bf4 took me 12 hours to dl and install. Mines not performing that hot.

Fangrim3807d ago

Fortunately it seems the amount of failing PS4's are fairly low. Let's hope it stays that way.

Kayant3807d ago

I knew it wasn't an overheating issue..... My gosh Sony's FW team have really drop the ball here.

Fangrim3807d ago (Edited 3807d ago )

Every firmware update on any console has lead to bricking.

I think a big part of this getting so much attention now is, that a high percentage of people, who unfortunately has a failing PS4, is telling their story online. Combined with the fact that it's launch day, 100 bricked consoles out of tens of thousands can easy be blown up to epic proportions.

At least I hope so - I'd hate for a faulty day one firmware to become a major problem for any console.

ZeroX98763807d ago

Sony expected a 0.4% rate of failure and as of right now, they're still on track.

I had consoles failures before and with more than one brand.

hello123807d ago (Edited 3807d ago )

The red line was noticed a few months back, when pictures emerged showing the PS4 going red inside a glass case. When it was taken out it went back to blue. The red line is a sign the system is overheating, but it might also indicate there is other problems with the system too?

I think the update too is causing issues, but i have serious reservations about the PS4, because of its small casing, i think heat may not be properly ventilated out?

N4GCB3807d ago

The FCC has stated that the ps4 runs cooler than the ps3, there are no problems with ventilation or heat.

TheFreak3807d ago

OMG ever seen\heard of something called a laptop? Small casing no problem...

taco_tom2373807d ago

kinda nervous to update my ps4 now -_- should i wait or is this just a couple ps4's messed up?

Majin-vegeta3807d ago

I updated a few hours ago and not one single problem.

user14394143807d ago

I have to wait till the 29th to get my PS4 as I live in the UK and I hope all issues with the firmware are resolved before hand.

Fangrim3807d ago

If it works fine without updating, I'd wait until Sony fixes it. Haven't got one yet (I'm in Europe), and I'll wait until a new firmware is released. Better safe than sorry.

The chance of bricking is very low, and I've never had any problems with my PS3 (even with the borked updates), but if I just got my PS4, I'd hate to see it brick on its first day.

Chuk53807d ago

MAKE SURE TO UPDATE THROUGH USB.
Probably the key thing with the ps4 thus far.

Fiestabrian3807d ago

I patched it via the console, freaked me out when it had to restart a few times but I settled down when the heartwarming PS logo appeared on screen

TIER1xWOLFPACKx3807d ago

dont risk it for the moment wait until there is like version 1.53 update which will fix these issues. this is the only upside for it releasing later in the uk because stuff like this should be ironed out within a few weeks. in the mean time hope this doesnt become to widespread

Cyb3r3807d ago

@MrTehDiNGO me too mate I thought we were unlucky not getting our consoles in the UK until 2 weeks later but it might be actually more positive than I thought if they fix the firmware update problem by then

MidnytRain3807d ago

Wrap your PS4 in a blanket and hide it in a closet. It'll stay safe that way.

MasterCornholio3807d ago

Wrap it in a blanket?

Didn't people to that to their 360s to fix the RROD problem?

Nexus 7 2013

frostypants3807d ago

People with issues make 10x more noise than those with no issues, because the latter are happily playing right now.

I played bf4 online from 1 am to 5:30 am only prob I had was couldn't get into a game of conquest :/
I had to try a few times to get my psn to work and the store had a few bugs but otherwise I was enthralled with my new console

beerzombie3806d ago

Ya the internet sucked last night just some sites would not load. I think there could of been a issue. waiting on Xbox one

What, I thought this was dead after Shawn Layden left Sony. I would definitely pick this up if it's true. I have such great memories of playing the MediEvil games on PS1 and I played the PS4 remake. Such a great and underrated series.

Cacabunga5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

A rumored game at a rumored show.. we’ve seen it all

TiredGamer5h ago

Agreed. The first remake was stylistically beautiful and a very noticeable improvement over the original in every regard. And it was reasonably priced and sustainably developed (i.e. not some mega big budget game that was do or die for the developer).

Zeke687h ago

Thanks for the spoilers... :(

RonnySins7h ago

Another day, another remake. Ugh!

SonyStyled6h ago

If you played the original print I can see your annoyance. I didn’t and probably a lot others the past 20 years.

Was it any good? Would you suggest playing the original print of 2, or suggest the remake? Just wondering because I didn’t play the originals as I had an n64 at the time

TiredGamer5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

I played the first remake and absolutely loved it. The quality of life and control improvements were very noticeable. I tried playing the PS1 original and gave up halfway through at the janky controls.

Expect the same for part 2. The PS1 version is janky as heck, but I would gobble up an improved remake day one.

The beauty of this kind of stuff is that I find myself enjoying more retro gaming today, so a relatively low budget classic remake (call it a single-A release) is exactly what is missing from first party releases in the modern age. I don’t want every game to be an unsustainable AAAA endeavor that is just overwhelming in every regard. Truly miss when game releases could be modest-sized surprises and still be commercially successful/viable.

Bring on more quality classic remakes!

Knightofelemia7h ago

Such a good series I also wish Sony would dust off Wild Arms and Legend of Dargoon even the Legend series needs to see the light again.

Omegasyde6h ago

My bets on new Socom and/or Wolverine (since Deadpool 3 is dropping in the summer).

I think one after this state of play will be PS5 pro preorder

InUrFoxHole1h ago

SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM!
But please not like Socom 4

"Darkest Dungeon II" is coming to Playstation consoles on July 15th, 2024

"The Vancouver-based (Canada) indie games developer Red Hook Studios are today very happy and excited to announce that their roguelike /strategy/RPG “Darkest Dungeon II”, is coming to Playstation consoles (PS5 and PS4) via PSN on July 15th, 2024." - Jonas Ek, TGG.

TwoPicklesGood7h ago

Don't sleep on this, it's a great day

Michiel19892h ago

I personally didn't enjoy 2 as much as I did 1. Actually didn't even finish it.
I do praise that they didn't just carbon copy the 1st game and added more of everything, but I think that during the process a lot of what made Darkest Dungeon appealing to put a ton of hours in, was lost.

The new mode does look cool and I will definitely jump back into it and try it out.
