"What drove me to love the original Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and subsequently place it on my top favorite games list, was by and large the fact that few games had before been able to play the dark parts of my imagination so expertly; allowing fear itself to drive my experience. It wasn’t the monster, but the idea that you were being hunted and there was nothing you could do about it, as well as the anticipation of unknown horrors to come, that moved the gameplay along. Much in the same way, A Machine For Pigs managed to recreate that anticipatory fear response, and the curiosity of discovering what awful things lay in store provided an unforgettable experience. But it has come a long way from what made Amnesia, Amnesia, and not entirely for the better. Here’s why."
