The warning signs were there, our motion trackers should have picked up on it, but we chose to ignore the fact that there hadn't been any pre-release reviews. We shouldn't have ignored the odd release date or the ridiculous amount of pre-release hype being pushed. But we did, and we bought it, and it was rubbish. Game-Modo are talking of course, about the years biggest disappointment so far: Aliens: Colonial Marines.
So what went wrong?
Too many games aren't given a second shot. We at VGU choose which games we would love to see receive a sequel.
The Saboteur - criminally underrated and a fantastic mechanic of bringing colour back to Nazi-occupied Paris.
The article lists Bulletstorm, Sleeping Dogs, and Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Player 2 takes some quiet time to look back at some of the most hyped failures of the past 10 years.
Can't argue with any of those really, but I would add Resident Evil Operation Racoon City and Metal Gear Survive to that list. Both terrible games from good franchises.
Bulletstorm, I actually liked the gameplay but the atrocious writing and characters made me despise the game by the end of it.
Thanks to a bustling mod community on Steam, Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines actually has a stellar multiplayer experience to offer these days.
The false advertising and using the funds SEGA gave them for Aliens on Borderlands 2 (which SEGA will likely sue for due to it BL2 being a 2K published game). seems to be the main things; also explains why Borderlands 2 was such an uncharacteristically large leap forward in quality for Gearbox.
Everything. I will not be surprised if the Wii U is now cancelled.
From the ammount of complaints about the game the better question would be what didnt go wrong :) i havent played it yet but im sure ill get around to it in a couple weeks. Games like this is why i love gamefly hell ill play it & if it as bad as everyone says (which isnt always the case) then ill just send it back!
After comparing the Need For Speed screenshots for the X360 and the Wii U versions I believe Wii U's version has a high chance to be like the demo(as stated by a rumor a couple of days ago), that's why they haven't cancelled it yet, it would be just really dumb to release the same game that went that bad, it still in development by Demiurge Studios though, hopefully they won't screw up like Gearbox. Only time can tell.
