Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley: "The GamePad offers something completely new to developers that you just don’t see elsewhere."
Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley said that going exclusive on the Epic Games Store for Zombie Army 4 was very good in terms of support.
He also added that upsetting a few people with the exclusivity may not be necessarily all bad as it gets extra attention to the game.
It definitely helps with exposure. I've missed a lot of steam releases because they get drowned out by dozens of new games launching every day on the platform.
Seems to be the pretty consistent message you hear from people who do the Epic thing -- those extra percentage points are worth it.
Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley said it's unlikely they'd go exclusive on the Epic Games Store. However, he pointed out it's not really much of a hassle as a consumer since it's just another launcher. He also said he understands why Epic signs exclusives and applauds them for trying to breaking the Steam monopoly.
"But Downloading Another Launcher Is Hardly Any Effort"
Well, yeah, anybody can download something, but do I trust and want to give yet another company my email and payment details? Not really. Do I want another launcher where my games, achievements, friends list, and everything else that comes with a launcher is fragmented? Again, no.
"The Rebellion CEO pointed out the inherent benefit of breaking a monopoly in the PC digital market"
What monopoly? Why does this BS line keep getting spouted unchallenged from these journalists. The only ones trying to creat a monopoly are Epic with this exclusivity crap. These people keep talking about Steam having a monopoly of the pc market and that they have no competition, but both of these statements are complete nonsense. There is plenty of competition for Steam, it's just that the publishers don't always support the competition like they do Steam. The only thing Valve is guilty of is creating a brilliant platform for it's users, and despite what devs and publishers say, it's also helped their games too. Then you get the Indie devs bitching and moaning saying that there games are getting buried under junk on Steam, but at the same time failing to realise that if it wasn't for Valve making it so easy for them to sell their game, that they wouldn't have any platform to sell their game on at all. Do they really think the likes of Epic is going to support them? This is a company that is rejecting games all of the time because it doesn't meet their standards of quality. It would be nice for so called gaming journalists to actually challenge these people instead of kissing ass and being a bunch of melts for once.
If it wasn't for Steam, pc gaming would still be a piracy hell hole. Piracy is still there, but there is no doubt that Steam helped push it back a great deal. We are also seeing games get pc releases that would never have reached the pc in the past, and I personally think that is because Steam is such an attractive platform. You would never have seen Japanese games like Yakuza, Dragon Quest and even popular fighting games like the Dragon Ball games on pc until a few years ago. So instead of these companies bitching about Steam, why don't they actually remember just how much better things are now compared to the past.
Whenever I see stories about how Epic is so great for this reason and that reason, I never actually see any reasons why it's good for me, the consumer. Seriously, what is Epic store offering me that is an improvement on what I already have? There is nothing from what I have seen, not a single thing. I see them constantly mentioning more money for the never satisified games companies, but I see nothing that ever benefits me, so why the hell should I give a damn about their store?
People will say "oh, you're just a Steam fanboy", but this bull. I'm a fan of Steam, of course, why wouldn't I be? But at the same time, I have never complained about other stores cropping up. Discord are selling games, Twitch, GoG, etc, it's not more competition that is annoying people, it's the exclusive crap with Epic and the way a lot of publishers, devs and kiss ass journo's are dumping all over the Steam when it's been so great for the pc gaming market, that is what people are getting annoyed with. I also hate the way publishers are removing games from Steam after using it to gain massive promotion, that is such a dick move.
Sorry for the long post, it's just something I have wanted to get off my chest for a long time now.
careful when you talk about jason kingsley the modern times KNIGHT, i dont wanna hear or see any disrespect.
Great to hear about EGS going from strength to strength can't wait to see how it turns out a year down the line
"Loot boxes have rapidly become the corn syrup of gaming, where the bad PR associated with them has become so toxic that most consumers are now staying away from anything that has them, causing most publishers and developers to eschew them too."
Only kind of "loot" boxes I like are like the ones in GOW and there are many but they don't cost a dime!
Even if lootboxes get removed from gaming, Micro-transactions are still here and we're back at the game being cut up and sold at $60 with the rest being small payments that equate to more then $100 to get the full complete game. I wish Mircosoft never went around pitching it's microtransaction idea all those years ago or we wouldn't be here right now, fighting over who gets to rip you off harder.
Its a disaster whichever way you look at it.
Anything obtainable from a loot box should be obtainable directly by performing a task or completing an objective. There are only two reasons to add the gambling factor:
1) Make money by selling what are effectively lottery tickets.
2) Get away from a system that only gives the best performing players the best rewards because otherwise every person that isn't good enough to earn the reward will throw a tantrum and wont buy the next one since there are a thousand other games that reward noobs handsomely.
“I think the idea of giving players more cool stuff to consume in a game is good,”
Yeah it is if they earned it. If every player went through the same grind to get the loot box and the reward didn't reflect the skill demonstrated during the process of acquiring the loot box, its f***ing stupid and pointless isn't it?
How hard is it to tell gamers that 'if you do this this and this, your reward will be this'.
Instead they are saying 'if you do this this and this, your reward could be one of a million things and even if you are the best player in the game, you might end up with the shittest reward, while the shittest player in the game has the chance to obtain the best possible item from the loot box.'
I really do hope it gets classified as gambling in every country in the world. At least it will make developers think about putting it in games that would not otherwise be age rated for adults.
It looks good i'm glad they simply say yes when asked if wiiu is more powerful, glad they upgraded the graphics i will buy this game.
Not my cup o' tea but I am glad someone is going to push the WiiU past current Gen.
Kind of burned-out of FPS's (most play exactly the same as the past except they look better). But I will check reviews to see if this can reignite a spark.
The game has nice concepts though.
i left a comment regarding this game saying i was gonna get it for wiiU, and some fan-boy kook sent me a p.m. saying that this game had gotten bad reviews for wiiU.
ha haa . now that's, a fan-boy
Strange how this article is totally ignorable...
