1UP:Preview|DmC Demonstrates Ninja Theory's Thoughtful Approach to Action Games

1UP:A few hours into DmC, my mind can't help but dwell on an obvious question: What the hell was everyone so worried about? Obviously the highly controversial Devil May Cry reboot has come a long way since its TGS 2010 reveal. You remember it, right? The scene where a drab and emo-looking Dante used an enemy's face as an ashtray, thus setting the world ablaze with fan rage at the same time. But developer Ninja Theory have stuck by their convictions, making minor alterations to their Dante re-design and preserving what they believe is cool. With each subsequent trailer since they've reminded folks the veteran developers behind Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Journey to the West understand combat-heavy character-driven action games. For DmC, they've reworked their signature approach to combat and integrated a fantastic and empowering juggle system that provides lots of variety. After spending seven hours with a near complete build of DmC, I'm convinced Ninja Theory was the best choice for this reboot and I hope people will appreciate what they've done to the characters, the story, and the combat.

What the hell are we so worried about?

2edgy4you emo character.
SSS in one hit.
complete destruction of the cool DMC universe.

i think this is it.

"A handful of fresh ideas from the developer help transform Dante from effeminate, borderline-anime male lead..."

In other word, capcom sent us a hefty bag of "$wag" in exchange for our dignity.

All these preview are the goddamn same. Some journalist over emphasizing that we shouldn't have to worry about the looks, when it never only been about the looks. Then proceeds to write the most generic writeups, telling us the control scheme and the features we already known 6 months ago. And then concluding that, "It's ok guys, don't be mad. This is like Devil May Cry"

Game runs inconsistent on both consoles (PS3 cutscenes very jerky)

No Lock on

Dante is just a replica of the stupid chavs from UK

Game runs inferior to the likes of God Of War 3, which out performs it on a technical, graphical and performance scale. Embarrassment much? and that is a 2010 game!

Practically ripping off ideas from different areas and passing it off as original (Vergil with the Saw/Annonymous mask, Inception environments)

Seriously wonder how much the press get paid from Capcom to say this load of shit, but then again, DMC2 got its praise too, its when the reviews came out, thats when it hit them.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
