Dealspwn.com reports: "Yesterday, we learned that the development team behind phenomenal competition fighting game Skullgirls had been laid off from Reverge Labs back in June, and have now formed their own studio after a few months of unemployment. Lab Zero Games have told us that the split was neither "malicious or acrimonious," and that it was probably originally supposed to be a temporary cost-cutting measure."
505 Games, publisher of Lab Zero Games-developed RPG Indivisible, has issued an official statement regarding the dissolution of Lab Zero Games and what it means for the future of Indivisble updates and downloadable content.
Lab Zero Games’ controversial owner Mike “Mike Z” Zaimont fired the studio’s entire staff last week following a series of high-profile departures, leaving several full-time employees and contract workers scrambling for support.
Lab Zero Games has been removed from indie fighting game Skullgirls as its developer on PC and console versions.
The dude was apparently a ass. But it is sort of sad to see that with that. Both creators of the IP will not have anything to do with anymore.
I think Ziamont is just socially awkward and I think he probably doesn't know where to draw the line when interacting with pretty girls. I could see how the girl he interacted with was offended (what do your parents think about you being a THOT?). Mike's a smart dude, but that's obviously offensive. I think he thought he was being flirty. Smart folks sometimes lack social skills. Based on this one specific incident it's really hard to say this was anything other than an uncomfortable conversation where Mike thought he was being flirty and the girl thought he was being a creep.
Now if you're going to talk about sex (like girl on girl BDSM) with a male (any hetero-male especially a stranger) the understanding has to be on your mind that you're broaching a very personal subject. So when Mike got too personal in response how mad can she really get? Then for her to blast this all over Twitter embarrassing him and essentially ruining his reputation, is pretty disgusting. The punishment ought to fit the crime I'd say. Other male devs are going to see this as a cautionary tale. He would be better off not responding at all to any member of the opposite sex who opens the conversation about a deeply personal subject like sex then pearl clutches by a deeply personal question in response. The right thing to do would be to privately address the subject with Ziamont right then and there. "I'm sorry but I find your questions deeply offensive. I don't like where this conversation is going at all." Is that so hard? Must his life and profession be destroyed over this awkward interaction? I find what she did vindictive and incredibly over the top mean spirited.
With that out of the way, we have some proof that he had this awkward conversation and we have some other lady saying he's made folks uncomfortable. What I don't like is how thin on proof this all is. Anyway that's my two cents. I think these ladies are looking for attention. I think Ziamont is probably unintentionally an ass. That shouldn't be a crime punishable by death or character assassination, but I guess it's 2020.
To hetero-male devs when a pretty girl you've never met starts talking about sex the very first second you meet her, shut it down. Don't respond. It's a trap. If you're leading a company that makes millions of dollars you have everything to lose and she has everything to gain.
Sad people lost their jobs around the holidays.
