Additionally, this acts as a hub for all the sick f*cks to trade their photos, video, and media of their real life evil acts on their innocent victims. There is no trade off for such a sickness. The ones there acting out their digusting fantasies are likely the ones who have actually done it in real life.

@ Kholinar: I like your avatar but also FYI, desensitization is a natural phenomena and no one can escape it. However, in a civilized society, the desensitization of violence is minimal due to the fact that it isn't rampant. Unnaturally increasing the desensitization to such a subject (as we are doing with violent movies and violent video games) is probably not the best thing to do if we would like to minimize the violence within our society. I would also like to note that the influence of viewing or partaking in REAL LIFE violent or sexual acts is by far more desensitizing then watching it on TV.

Hmmm... interesting. I'm really not trolling here, but how that statement different than what censors are saying about Manhunt?

Again, not saying that Manhunt should be banned or that this is right, but if games desensitize, they desensitize, period.

edit: Not disagreeing. Just wondering where that leaves us with things like Manhunt. I agree that doing things is much worse, it seems, though, that we're getting closer and closer to participation that may become indistinguishable. The movie Existenze was a great example.

comment is so on point; this is part of the whole slippery slope we fall into of "well, this is ok, but that's not ok". I'm not trying to defend pedophiles in any way, shape or form because that crime is one of the worst there is, period.
At the same time, it's interesting how quickly many jump on the "well, it desensitizes them to the act" thought process for something like this, but when the games we enjoy that are full of violence are attacked it's a whole different matter.

Lightning, being gay and being a pedophile are not the same thing and no comparison should be drawn between them. Taking innocence from a child is an unforgivable and intolerable act (FYI, it doen't need to be sexual). The pedophile is a predator and is preying on the innocence of the victim. A homosexual is engaging in a sexact (or uni-love or whatever they call it) that has the consent of the other involved.

If you are going to draw a stupid relation then draw one that actually has merit, such as rape. Pedophiles and rapists fall under the same violent class with differing sub-classes. These two types of people are by far the worst and most worthless individuals in our society and a NO TOLERANCE law should be given to all of them.

Im sure there will be some sort of restrictions put in place, all you need to rectify this disturbing problem.....is just limit the apperance's you can give your character....of course there could still be perverts running around, at least they cant act out their sick fantasies there.

you should be able to make your character look from an adult to middle aged would be my guess.

simply becuase there can be R-rated trailers and possibly films in the theater, and parents should be monitoring the under aged childs gaming ANYWAY.

You have a point, some people can certainly look underage and visa versa but if you can engage in some sort of sex acts in home you should be aware of how old your partner actualy is.

if a 23 year old women looks underage, well it isnt her fault and shes more than in her legal rights to do whatever she wants. so in that scenario I dont see how either party would be held accountable.

This is such a interesting topic. For example, what does an adult look like? There are women who are 25 who look like young teenager. Is it wrong to be attracted to them? Conversely, there are 13 year old girls who look 20. Is it wrong to be attracted to them? Now change that out and use "is it wrong to engage in virtual sex acts with an avatar that they're using that looks just like them?"

Also were these avatars pre-pubescent types or just representations that were below the age of consent in their country?
