Rumor: Xbox 360 to drop price by $100 across all SKUs on August 1st, Major Canadian retailer says

After recent comments by MS on Xbox 360 price cut plans, the rumors of sooner-than-expected price drop have filled the internet and now MaxConsole reports:

"A major Canadian retailer has confirmed that the Xbox 360 is set to receice an Official $100 price drop across all Skus as of August 1st. That will mean that the Xbox 360 core will retail for $199 (with a pack in memory unit) and be even cheaper than the Wii at $249 USD."

I might wait, since I wanna get an elite. Maybe they might drop that damn Core too. Sony dropped the Ps2 price early last gen so this might have the same effect, with the new chips..if true.

More reliability with the 65n core, and the 3 years warranty against RR defect + the games coming out around that time. Really the best deal.

Well firstly this doesn't confirm a price cut as Microsoft have not officially announced one but if they do just before X-Mas I think they will sell tons of consoles.

However personally I wouldn't mind getting the new one with the new CPU and GPU 65nm size, but that still won't solve the DVD noise problem because that is really loud.

Am looking at the Elite but £330 is too much.

I am seriously worried about this being true, As a Sony PS3 fanboy I think that kind of price cut could be the nail in Sony's coffin.

I mean right now we are already having enough trouble trying to get the games to come out on PS3, and then get them to be as good if not better then 360 which is not happening right now.

but if you cut the price of 360 and with the launch of halo 3 right around the corner, then I would say this is going to make it hard to compete.. that $100 dollars off is a sweet deal for new gamers..

and with all our blockbusters Killzone2 , and MGS4 coming out in 2008 this is going to be Microsoft's Christmas if this turns out to be true.

A hundred dollars seems a little much considering the 1 billion they are investing towards the warranty issue. I have a ps3 and a 360 and like them both. Microsofts gaming department is hurting right now financially and this will not help. the production costs will drop significantly when you move from 90nm chipsets to 65nm chipsets. about 6 months ago a report came out saying that it costs microsoft $323 to manufacture an xbox360, so if costs dropped a bit since then, and then the chipset change comes in around august, then they definitely can afford to do it since they are already making money on selling the consoles themselves
