The PS3 is gonna catch up and surpass the 360. People laughed when I said this a few months ago, but guess what? It's gonna happen.

Wow few months you are very conservative thinker. I already new PS3 will surpass 360 before the PS3 even launched. Just knowing Microsoft has no grip on Europe or Japan is enough.

According to the charts, the Xbox has increased their lead. If the PS3 slim momentum doesn't hold up, goodbye PS3! The Slim is last chance saloon for Sony.

1.6 - 360 is back in last place
This time, even in America.
Global sales over the last 10 weeks:
PS3: 2.89 Million
360: 1.46 Milllion
______
@BuckySlingo
You're either living in a fantasy world or you don't know how to read a chart. 360 is down in every single chart. When the line is angling down that means bad.

Then again, this is VGchartz we are talking about here, i'll wait for official numbers. Strange, VG still hasn't update their WW PS3 total sales number, it should have cleared 27.5 mil by now.

Yeah dude, right on!
The people that pressed disagree are likely either:
- hardcore fanboys that don't like thruth
- people I have upset by calling out their lies and now they harbour a grudge.
In both cases, it doesn't alter the veracity and truth of my post.
You may also notice that since September, the rate of 'catching up' has slowed by over 50%, according to npd and media create, suggesting this momentum is not sustainable.
We'll see.
Best bet is to refer to official figures.

They know more about the accuracy of VGChartz, that is 100% true, however that doesn't mean that they're more accurate. I'd guess that it means VGChartz numbers for Square-Enix's game are more flattering than others, so that's the source they chose to quote. They could be the least accurate, but if they're the most flattering, that's what they're going to quote, don't you think?

They don't match what any of the console makers claim, because Sony, MS and Nintendo report sold to retailers as their sales numbers. VGchartz only lists the amount of systems in homes.
They do it for all companies not just Sony.

5.4 - Because it is make believe ...
I remember laughing at their article regarding the financial statements released by all three companies. This was last week so the numbers on their website have probably changed.
I compared the chartzzz numbers to the companies numbers (remembering according to chartzz that all three are sold to retailer and not customer) and got the following:
Nintendo - reports 56.14 million Wiis sold
Chartzzz - has Wii at 54.99
Difference: 1.15 M consoles
Microsoft - reports 33.5 million Xboxes sold to retailer
Chartzzz - has Xbox at 32.78
Difference: 0.72 M consoles
Sony - reports 27.02 million consoles sold
Chartzz - has PS3 at 25.74 M
Difference: 1.28 M consoles
So out of all three according to the chartzzzz Sony has 1.28 million consoles stuffing the channel, there are 1.15 million Wiis on shelves yet M$ only has 0.72 million pre-rrods on shop shelves. A difference of 0.5 million more PS3s.
More proof of made up rubbish and bias if you ask me.

How can a company accurately track sold to consumer numbers? There are a lot of big and small retailers that fly underneath the radar. The only accurate way is to track the shipped to retailers since retailers won't order consoles they can't stock

It spins me out the Xbox fanboys wont believe that Sony counts sold to customers even though thats plainly what they state they do, but the think M$ keeps track of every RRoD and deducts that off their shipped numbers. If that were so M$ would have manufactured 40M consoles by now.

Yet you think a small website like VGChartz can track sold to consumers? If anyone can track it, it's behemoths like Sony and Nintendo.

"Yes Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft could actually track sold to consumers but that requires a staff and budget for checking 10's of thousands of retailers #'s daily"
And you think VGChartz has the staff and budget for accurately tracking sold to consumer numbers?
"Sony ships them and its SOLD as far as they are concerned, I dont care what sony tells you differently thats what they do. Just cause a company says they are reporting numbers differently doesn't make it true their simply trying to make their numbers look more favorable"
So you're just going to call them liars, but you have no evidence. You don't believe them because you just don't. Ok. Glad that's cleared away. But that's not substantial or convincing for someone like me. I don't personally care what Sony's numbers represent, but at the very least we know that they represent consoles that were manufactured and shipped out to retailers, anything more than that isn't all that important. What I do care about is this notion that Sony can't keep track of the sell-through of their consoles, yet VGChartz somehow can? That's a ridiculous assertion.

Yes you're right that VGChartz is not accurate but still if you accept that they are only estimating based on sample data from retailers then you can understand the situation a little better. VGChartz is pretty good, they have a system that is generally "close" to actual figures, but given that they are only sampling data and estimating unlike NPD which is a huge firm that spends alot of resources tracking sales from a much larger data pool to get "more accurate data" then anybody else,(companies pay them for this info) vg does a fairly good job for a free service that reports data more often too, if you analyze it over the last year they've been really close most of the time, also their trend of who came out on top, 2nd, and 3rd has almost never been wrong from what I remember, but even NPD isn't 100% accurate, as that would be just about impossible to track every retailer, including little mom and pop game stores, but they do use a large enough amount of data sources to make them very reliable.
VGChartz method has its flaws but its generally pretty good if you're the type who likes looking at sales data, so I dont really understand the hate towards them, only thing I can think is because so many people use their numbers for flamebait when their console is up or down.
Also although JOY sort of sounds like he just dont want to believe them there is some truth to his point which is "shipped" and "sold to consumer" numbers can easily be manipulated even the very definition of what they companies mean is vague, I don't know how many times I've read one thing or another on what they actually mean. I generally don't think any of them are employing a NPD like level of tracking to be able to accurately report hardware sales to consumers and then at the same time constantly just reporting, commenting on NPD numbers regularly, and never ever once saying they disagree with NPD data based on their own numbers, come on with something so complicated as tracking sales to consumers you would almost have to have some different numbers sometimes if you have your own tracking system.

Yes yes, so Sony and Nintendo not only lie to the public which is unethical, but also to their shareholders which is illegal.
Its obvious they lie because some jerks on the internet told me so.
BTW I've never heard of anyone channel stuffing except M$. Remember the first real competiton they had at christmas a couple years ago, they shipped so many unit they had to slow production the next year. It took til April to clear the channels again.

0.1 - The turnaround in Others and the sustained high sales in Japan have caused a marked difference to the Global chart. The turnaround is now looking more impressive than what the 360 managed in a similar period last year.
