Silent Hill Series To Be Re-released On PS3? Possibly

HellDescent writes: "Since the recent announcement of God Of War 1 and 2 being ported into the HD world for the PS3 on Blu-ray, many people have already started to wonder, "What other games will get this treatment?" We all know Sony have dropped backwards compatibility for some time now and has no plans to ever bring it back. But could re-releasing a game series in Blu-ray become a new trend?

This would kick major behind. I think this isnt a bad idea at all since they dont want to add BC to the latest PS3 might as well re-release most PS2 games in bluray so that we the ones who havent been lucky to play PS2 games can enjoy them.

Yes, if I'm going to play a PS2 game it's because it is an improved version, I already played SOTC so only a remasterd version would make me rebuy it, that's a smart move from SONY offer something "new" to PS3 owners and push PS2 owners to jump to the PS3..a remastered version of ICO and SOTC is definitely on the way before the Last Guardian is released.

Count me in. I'd be all over that. I would rather thay did it this way. I don't like the way my PS2 games look on my 42" lcd the way they are now. I rarely ever use my 60 gig to play PS2 games. I have my old PS2 hooked up to another TV that i do that on.

Of course it will be the new trend, that's why there is no BC. It much more profitable to sell the games again as opposed to let us play what we already own.

you can always buy a ps2 for at most $99.99 and buy the original release for cheap.
there is nothing you can complain about here.
God of War collection = day one buy

Instead of adding BC, they will make people to rebuy their PS2 games on blu-ray.

i c ur point and no doubt that's 1 of their main reasons as a business for doing this, however. i really wouldn't mind buying a reduced price game that has improved visuals, 720p res and trophy support tbh...

Screwing customers would be reselling the game as a regular port. Adding 720p resolution and trophy support does not fall under that category. It's also priced reasonable, so there's not too much to complain about. I just comes down to whether you like the God of War or in this case Silent Hill games enough to re-buy them if you own them already and it's great for people who never experienced these titles. Especially when GOW3 and rumored announcement of the new Silent Hill title are right around the corner.

I disagree, Wakka_

I own God of War 1 & 2 and a PS3 with backwards compatibility that plays both of those games. And I'm still buying this collection. Because I am all in favor of playing them in 720p with anti-aliasing at 60 frames per second and earning some trophies while doing it. And I get to have them all on one single blu-ray disc. That's three 3 DVD's worth of content (God of War 2 shipped on 2 discs, and all of that content will be on this collection) on a single disc. And they're only charging the same price that you'd pay if you went out and bought the PS2 versions of the two games individually. So it's an awesome deal.

Sorry Wakka, I didn't realize GOW collection was a mandatory thing to buy.

I guess Microsoft were just in it to "screw" their customers when they redid Conkers bad fur day, and I guess Nintendo is out to "screw" their customers with the release of the Metroid Trilogy etc, etc...

Yep, what's the world coming to?

I would poop myself if they "restored" the silent Hill Series and maybe brought the original Silent Hill up to at least PS2 level graphics..

Itll probably just look very clear but still old time graphics. Youll have to play Shattered Memories for anything "close" to SH1 in PS2 graphics.

They could put Shattered Memories onto the disc in HD with 2 and 3 remastered in HD. Silent Hill 3 looked extremely good anyway and still holds its own. It rivaled Resident Evil 4 in graphics.

I just hope that other series that have jumped to the next gen systems (GoW, SH, hell maybe even the remakes of RE) get a nice facelift, just like how God of War 1 & 2 are getting the treatment + trophy support!

I agree.

Sony's move is the right path to bring in more players into Playstation's land. I never got to play many of the acclaimed games during the PS2 era but these moves will with no doubt let me and new players experience them too.

The first one needs to be remade. It's my favorite one. I remember beating it so many times and getting the alien abduction ending to unlock that alien gun.

the god of war games gets a ps3 port and all of a sudden we think everyone is going to start doing it too. this only happened because thousands of people recommended the gow games for the ps3's collectors edition.

i can see a possibility of sony willing to port classic ps2 games if the god of war collector's edition sells well, but i doubt this will be a new trend of them.

12 - You know...
The average reaction to the GoW collection announcement has been very, very positive.
It's been like 2 days, and look at all the articles and comments.
If the Sony people are watching this (and I think they are), they might realize that we'd be willing to get behind products like this one.

Yeah, I'd totally go for a Silent Hill Collection or a MGS collection, and to be honest, a ".....Strike" collection (Soviet, Nuclear, Urban, etc) with HD graphics would make me go crazy.

If Silent hill came bundled as a trilogy and cost less than a fully developed ps3 game, I might consider buying it.

17 - See Im a sucker for this franchise....
so I'd have to buy it...

BUT

The old crappy graphics and crappy controls are what made survival horror titles so freaking scary and iconic for their times!

Now the cleaner look of Resident Evil 4 and 5... the franchise lost its luster!

also Silent Hill Homecoming tried to hard to look creepy/atmospheric... I still enjoyed the game although its my least fav. of the series! but the older ones smoke it cause what they did really worked!

I've been meaning to buy Siren: Bloodcurse online for $40, I don't wanna download it offa PSN. I wan't the unlocked region copy of the game. I liked the demo a lot, Almost bought the PS2 game cause the PS3 demo really kinda turned me on to the franchise! can anyone tell me how it is?

I'm not going to buy it cause I couldn't stand to go back into the apartments or the hospital in silent hill 2.

the series always scared the sh*t out of me.
'cept the latest one, that wasn't scary at all.

18.1 - Haha awesome dude
I'd truely say the ONLY survival horror game to truely scare the living s#!t outta me is the Fatal Frame franchise... the hair on my arms literally stood up on my arms. The game was so hardcore bad for me, I couldn't even finish!
