Retailers Respond to PlayStation 3 Launch & Price-Drop - Who's Cheapest?

With the launch of the newly redesigned PlayStation 3 throughout Europe today, Electronic Theatre has taken the time to find out how both high street and independent retailers across the UK have been responding to the new hardware proposition. With the Xbox 360 having received a price-drop prior to the weekend and many retailers still carrying stock of the PLAYSTATION 3 unit, it comes as little surprise to find that the high street stands as a very competitive arena currently.

1 - of course it has more value
the only ppl who will disagree are the ones that just have the 360.... or their brother has a ps3 so they consider themselves to have one.... and there will be very very little who actually have both but they consider 360 to have more value

not saying its a better console (i personally think that but not saying thats definite) im just saying there is more return and face value with the ps3

Yeah, which console is "better" will always be a matter of opinion, but it's hard to question that the PS3 Slim has more inherent value than the 360 Elite.

1.3 - hey, I love my 360 as much as the next guy, but
there is no way it compares to the value of the ps3, hands down the PS3 is the best value in a game system ever, blu ray, wifi, ability to change out for cheap huge hard drive, incredible 1st party titles, the list goes on and on. But I do love my 360 as well.

Agreed. The PS3 has more value but that doesn't mean it is better for everyone. With that said, it's hard not to recommend a PS3.

1.5 - The PS3 is the biggest bang for the buck, there is no denying that.
Though it is not for all, I still highly recommend it to all and those who own a 360 would do well to own both the PS3 and the 360. Both compliment each other well.

2 - I own both
My thought was never, what system was better but what system gives you the most for your money. I'm a gamer so every system that comes out im going to buy but ever since xbox and PS3 has been a price war, what most people don't realize is if you added up all the add-ons to the 360 just to get the next gen experience like the PS3 it's not the ps3 that cost the most it's the 360. Remember no built in wifi and you have to pay for high quality DVD. You cant upgrade your HDD with a more reasonable price and you dont have HDMI and standard options which sucks if you bought the white 360. Meaning a new system if you want a HDMI option.

While i get more out of my PS3, i don't down my Xbox 360 for costing more in the next gen race. I just wish people would take the time to see the whole picture before complain about something they don't realize. I'm online on both systems and have multiple accounts (not to mention PS3 doesn't charge for gamer ID change) but if your online feel free to send a request.

So the 360 is more expensive and it has been selling more. So if the PS3 hasn't been selling more because it's expensive..... well...

ugh...

I think I've gone cross-eyed.

Stop trying to spin this. PS3 offers a LOT more than the 360 for the same price. Get over it.

The PS3 used to rape you with it's price.

The 360 still and always will rape you in the long run year after year.

And if that's not enough, you can get more rapage by buying it's accessories.

2.4 - The truth is...
The 360 may sell more, but not necessarity at full "next gen experience" price (with all the effing addons)...

So...half the sales of the 360 could be arcades with nothing else...being cheaper than PS3...and therefore the argument that they cost more AND outsold ps3 is....flawed =)

I'd say PS3 = more values...its quite obvious.

2.5 - There's a difference between...
More value and more expensive.

People buy a 360 because they think its cheap. Then they end up spending a lot more cash on it then they would if they had bought a PS3 instead.

People look at the PS3's $399 price and they instantly turn away. They don't even think about what the PS3 offers.

But now they can just buy a PS3 instead of a 360 for the same price, but more value in the box.

Which console is better?

Well, the console that has more features, more true exclusives, bluray, true high definition graphics, real high def audio, etcf.

That would of course be the ps3.

"while Argos are undercutting this price by £5.30 for both the PLAYSTATION 3 and the newly released PlayStation 3. Asda, however, seem to be largely unaware of the price-drop or launch of the PlayStation 3, continuing to retail the PLAYSTATION 3 for £297."

The argos i went to just before PS3 Slim came out..but after the Price drop was announced...still had PS3 80gb at 299.

7 - After a bit of research, I got a great bundle...
You know i'd been circling trying to find the best games bundle and HMV [free Far Cry 2, Quantum Of Solace or Assassins Creed.. meh] and Argos [free Call Of Duty 5.. meh] were seemingly the one places offering anything.

On Sunday morning I was bombing around online trying to find out about those who has received their systems via mail order early and in the processsaw a few cool online deals, except - I didn't want to order online in case something was wrong. I'd rather take it back to the store town than mail it back [at cost], wait, etc etc.

Then online I saw that Blockbuster were offering the new and rather ace looking Batman: Arkham Asylum free [yay..but Blockbuster is miiiles away], but then that this bloke took the offer to Gamestation and they agreed to price match it.

Went in my local Gamestation and they agreed to match the deal as well. I was *very* impressed by the staff, their positivity, attitude - and when I went to get a remote control for it the bloake said to wait until Tuesday because there would be an offer. Remote should be £17.99, for £2 more I got a HDMI cable [for when I get a better telly] and Casino Royale on Blu-Ray ^-^

I spent my first two hours twatting about on Home and build a rather scarily accurate avatar, then the next few gaming.. emergency lunch as I was utterly marvin... then more playing in the afternoon.

For the record, I love it. Great console and it will let me play loads of games i've not had the chance to before.

But that's the thing, *GAMES*. The consoles aren't important, it's the games. So this my console is better than yours garbage is very, very old and most people make themselves look utterly foolish with it.

So Sony redesign and price cut the PS3. Fabulous! More people can afford and get one. So then MS drop the Elite, bundle more stuff with it, more people can afford and get one..which then moves the ball back into Sony's court.

Competition is good for the gamer, it's good for choice and keeps all companies on their toes.

Heck, if you're a 360 owner and can afford a Slim, then go for it - i'm *really* enjoying mine. Likewise if you have a PS3 and have enough to buy a 360 after it drops, do so.

Moreover, enjoy a ton of new games. Because at the end of the day, that's what it's really all about. ^-^

www.shopto.net and www.gameplay.co.uk are each selling the PS3 slim for £229.99, which I am finding very tempting. Shopto are also selling it at normal price with Fallout 3 and BF:Bad Company free.

9 - PS3 or Xbox
The only reason they try to say the Xbox is better because the third

party games and it look the same. If you don't know reason it look

the same is the developers that make the multiplat game say it to

hard to make games for PS3 and its easy to port it over from Xbox.

Sony A-1 games just blow all the Multiplat games out the water. Xbox

only run 720p, Sony have more power, everything is free and run 1080p

that's make a hold lot difference in the look and the preferments so

who do you think the best.
