nope, its going on four years. Even by 2010, I think its just too early for a new console with the PS3 just hitting its prime, and momentum that has been building since 2008.

1.2 - For me
I haven't and wont buy a Wii until:

A) A Pokemon MMORPG is Announced
B) Wii HD

So for Nintendo creating another console has more of a purpose than Sony or Microsoft. I own a PS3, and don't own a 360, but I still think both consoles have at least another 2-3 strong years ahead of them, obviously the PS3 longer than 360.

Knowing Sony they'll announce the "PS4" around the 6-7 year cycle of the PS3, which should be around *2012-2013, hopefully a little longer.

* = If the Mayans are wrong ;)

The Mayans never said the world would end in 2012 its just the media who made that up basically y2k all over again.

But yea still a while for new consoles i personally think Nintendo cut the price for the wii unnecessarily as well.

The Mayan calender ends but it does NOT say the world ends along with it. Gotta love the media spin..

On topic: I like how Adam said all games this generation are going to look like U2 if developers try LOL! Gears of War 2 maxed out 360 and Drake's Fortune looks better than that so there's no hope for a 360 game matching U2.

Maybe M$ needs to make a new console but Sony does not.

Is really necessary an article stating the obvious, well If we talk about PS3 XP

The wii can't stand much time in the market and xbox, well natal is the last chance to stay afloat and if it sink we'll see the same trick from last gen, jump to next console

1.7 - Graphics will continue to improve
They will advance on all consoles now in this generation and continue advancing into the next. Once real life realistic graphics can be rendered it will probaly move into 3d, although I thinks that's starting already.

Anyway, anyone who thinks that mayan calander bullS**T is real is just stupid. Saying that the wrold will because their calander ends in 2012 is just like saying the world will end because the calander in my kitchen ends this december. It's total bull

I don't see us needing any new consoles for awhile.

Especially with the ps3 just getting its power, and XBL getting new features.

*edit*
Actually cool little features like Halo waypoint *which came yesterday, But you wouldn't know anything about that would you.*

As well even though it is facebook, twitter, and last.fm *which BTW is wicked* its still adding features that were not in the system.

BTW just because one system had something and the other system didn't doesn't mean squat.

but if you want to do that. Netflix was on 360 before PS3. as well new ps3 have taken features out, like OS install.

How does adding netflix extend the ps3's gaming experience.
If we go on this, neither system is adding anything amazing and both should be scrapped under your expectations.

unless ive missed something there the only new features,which are not so new for ps3 owners...and how would twitter and facebook expand the life of a GAMING console?

I think a Wii2 is pretty much needed. It's lack of power prevents third party multiplatform development too much.

very good Top 5. i agree with all of them, specially number 1. I just hope/pray MS don't make the same mistake again and launch early, because then, Nintendo and Sony would have to rush a new system and everyone is affected with not-what-it-could-be hardware.

Although even if Nintendo launched a new system early, wouldn't really matter, I think it would be competing with PS3/360 until this generation is over, and the three launch their next console

Nintendo probably will be the first to launch new hardware. Technically.

The Wii-HD followed by the Wii-HD lite and Wii-HD XXL.

I completely agree. I don't want to deal with companies abandoning current systems in a few years. Systems are quite expensive, and I don't want to see my investment become phased out in the next couple years.

10 - Saw this on G4TV Canada today
and I gotta say, I agree strongly with what Adam said. Way too fast for new consoles to come out in a few years, we need developers to show more great stuff before this generation is over. Looking at Ps2's library for example, and a great one, it was a perfect time frame for alot of great games it had so here's hoping all 3 give out more good stuff to what makes them stand out.

I don't want a new console anytime in the next couple of years. PS3 will last until 2016 and beyond, and we are no where even near till its half life yet. Although I think MS will go ahead and release Xbox 720 in the next 3-4 years because Halo franchise has been completely milked and needs a new next-gen update in order for people to buy it.

I don't want to see a new system until 2013-2014. This gen has been way too costly and expensive during an economic downfall.

As for PS3 I'm sure it will keep going until about 2016 with strong titles. 360 too if Microsoft knows whats good for them.

14 - I dont like 40 year old sessler but....
Ms and Nintendo are coming up for new consoles very soon. Id say by 2011 Xbox 3 and Wii2 will be absolutely necessary. Ps3 has legs to carry it pretty far, we still dont have 100gb Blur-ray games yet.

360 and the Wii are dated tech,and cannot hang with PS3 tech wise. New consoles for them is a must after 2010, like it or not people.

Depending on what MS can do with the new engines I don't think MS will drop a new console until 2012, also depending on how long Natal can stretch the life of the system. PS3 will be good until then and I'm not too sure about the WII. The only games I'm looking forward to on the Wii are Monster Hunter and Super Mario Bros.

frankly even if they did come out with a new console, I wouldn't be able to afford one for another 4 years at the very least. Plus, current gen consoles have only just begun to live so give it time.
