Left 4 Dead Online Friends Appearing in Sequel, Linking Confirmed?

HellDescent writes: "While playing the Left 4 Dead 2 demo, we noticed that our friends who were playing the original Left 4 Dead were showing up in in the main menu. Now why would players from the original Left 4 Dead have their online status displayed in Left 4 Dead 2? The only thing that comes to mind is the rumor/experimenting with linking the games that was on the web not too long ago. Valve aimed to bring both sides of Left 4 Dead fans together and stated they were attempting to link the 2 games. This little message under "Online Friends" in the main menu of Left 4 Dead 2 gives much the rumor a big tank sized injection of reality. Hopefully this means we wont have to leave Bill, Zoey, Francis and Louise behind. Only Valve and their super big vault of secrets now that answer. For now, we will have to wait a few more weeks to full release."

1.2 - It would be great if they linked somehow....
....but my guess is that it works vica versa, too, L4D2 players showing on L4D. Then when you go to play with them.....

"Dang! They're playing the second one! I guess I better buy the second one since the community is busted in half"

STEAM already does this for every game you have playing through the steam service. Just hit shift+tab and BAM! All your friends are just an invite away.

Ummm... they're just new maps for the same game. Of course, you can play the old one. I just hope it lets you install the old maps on the 360 to not switch disks on lobby or let it be included on the disk.

Yep, Steam all ready has this friend thing option. You can annoy them by pressing the chat several hundred times and they'll hear a phone ring to no end as they play.

It would be cool if it allowed up to 16 players in versus and 8 players in normal now. And you could only play as the other characters if you own both games.
