1.1 - dont read the description
the article is actually very well written .An excerpt

"The premise of an anti-hero gives developers not to interfere on the consequences of gameplay mechanics which allows it to be a linear affair. Hence we see Alex imbued with insurmountable powers right form the start which allows the player to weak havoc around New York irrespective of the consequences. The notion of being powerful strays all throughout the game sans any form of moral obligations thereby ensuring a high degree of violence and destruction throughout the game. The story of the game has also been modeled in the way of the “Hulk” emplacing the notion of anger and hatred which leads to a chaotic scenario with the progress of the game.

Infamous, on the other hand, follows a much livelier narrative giving players to choose and decide upon his course of actions, thus the “karma” system constantly affects the players surroundings. Power cannot be utilized in a haphazard manner, the consequence of a player’s action bears witness to his surrounding plain in the form of posters, crowds, regular updates from his friend. Although there is a dark side which the players can opt to choose, the essence of this negative aura does not rest on pure vengeance. It exploits a human’s basest desires encapsulated within a world that is steaming with chaos and filth."

The Ultimate Debate? Maybe to the 3-4% of the gaming market that actually cares about this kind of crap and trolls comments sections and forums thinking they actually matter. Out here, in the real world we all know that they are 2 great games. However, you don`t need to be a rocket scientist to see that Infamous is still a much more solid experience. End of story, not more then one phrase is needed to end this (Ultimate) debate.

I didn't thk either of them were worth buying in the long run. Infamous was the better game but thats really not saying much. Prototype, for the first hour or two, was the BEST ACTION GAME this generation. But it got repetitive and boring really fast. Killzone 2 demolishes both anyways.

@82211986- Yep, N4g is full of fanboys. If Infamous was a 360 exclusive, it would have gotten hated on by PS3 fanboys.

2.1 - Agreed
Infamous is so much better all around. Better story, better animations, better graphics, better characters, more production values. Not that Prototype is bad, its just not better when compared to InFamous (almost platinum baby!!!)

I don't even own a PS3, so I played Infamous at my brother-in-laws, and I must say that it's a lot better than Prototype. There's actually a decent story in Infamous. Prototype basically amounts to you being a human wrecking ball with sketchy controls.

2.3 - the thing is...
everytime i say something bad about Prototype ppl will disagree and say that it's only because it's a multiplat.
But seriously...I've bought inFamous & RedFaction and rented Prototype and Wolverine so how the hell am i anti-multiplat?(check my trophy counts if you don't believe me)

If i have to rank them: inFamous>RedFaction>Wolv erine>Prototype
Both Wolverine & Prototype had horrid graphics, but Logan is cooler than Mercer so...

It might feel weird saying this but Prototype feels too much like a low budget game - lousy gfx, extremely bad story, uninspired and boring environment, badly done sidequests and cheap bosses that have crazy amt of hp to extend gameplay time. Mercer is also the worst main character of the 4 games. He/It is just a mindless killing machine that goes round slaughtering people in hopes of getting answers by doing so.The twist in the end was hilariously bad too.

3 - to be honest
i liked them both, the story in prototype wasnt to shabby. but overall, infamous is a better game, with tight gameplay, really good presission and awesome story.

BUT prototype is worth buying, i got the game for like half the price in canada( 20 or something) and i really enjoyed playing it.

as for infamous vs prototype, the winner is clearly infamous.

Played them both and I think they were both great games, each with their unique style. People not playing one or the other just because of some allegiance are missing out on some fun gameplay.

I would look forward to sequels to both games to be honest.

I thought we already settled on inFamous as the better game and [PROTOTYPE] as a less robust, but still solid title while both try to be special by stylizing their titles awkwardly.

8.2 - I think Infamous...
is the better game between it and Prototype, but I still think Crackdown is better than both of them. My copy of Infamous has a decent amount of bugs in it. I didn't scour the internet or read any reviews to confirm that Infamous is buggy so I'll just say my copy is buggy.

i think the article is useless... this must be the 2076 article comparing these 2 average games. i look forward to infamous 2 for sure though...the way it ended was unexpected but good. i was just saying crackdown 2 will beat them both do to online and co-op or just online multilayer....cant disagree with that..unless your lonely and dont like to play with friends.

Crackdown 1 wasn't any proof of that. I have the game and it wasn't that great and it didn't really sell that well even with the Halo 3 beta included, which is why I bought it.

What the hell does PS3 vs 360 have anything to do with this discussion? The question is Prototype vs Infamous, and you can make that judgement just by comparing the PS3 versions and not include the 360 one at all. As I stated earlier, I don't even own a PS3, but after playing Infamous on a relative's console, I think it's better than Prototype. That opinion has nothing to do with this console fanboy garbage. I'd own all the systems if I had that much time in my life to play them, but unfortunately, some of us have to work for a living.

Useless comment? my god this whole freaking article is useless. Yet everyone starts to argue about it. its the freaking truth for the simple reason that as anyone with a PS3 can play both while 360 only owners can only play Prototype. If you are going to disagree with fact then why did you even sign up for n4g? Im guessing you are either an alt or just a troll.

My opinion here (I own both games):

Story: Infamous wins hands down.

Gameplay: Tie. Prototype was more crazy but overall more fun, Infamous was more focused but could get boring when you're just running around with no enemies to fight since you've cleared that district. And Prototype was a bit harder.

Graphics: Unfair comparison. Someone needs to tell me how Prototype look on the consoles. So the following is based of the PC version or Prototype: Infamous had more detailed and unique looking buildings, ad the character models were better, but was full of ugly jaggies in shadows and in the distance, and there was alot of pop-in with cars, shadows, and other objects on rooftops. Prototype on the other hand is nearly the opposite. Buildings and textures in general looked like crap, but the game was so damn sharp and had litterally no jaggies even without AA and even when not at the monitors native resolution (unless you go to far down). Very little pop-in even with shadows, and the shadows were very sharp. But that's the PC version or Prototype, so on consoles Infamous probably looks better.

Controls: Another unfair comparison. I have no idea how Prototype controls on a controller, so I can't really make a fair comparison here. If I had to make a choice, I'd say Prototype controlled much better, but that's because I'm playing it on a PC. Infamous had a nice control scheme, but I still don't like controllers that much. I've heard Prototype is an ass to control on consoles, but the PC version has been a breeze to control for me.

Longetivity/Lasting Appeal/whatever: Tie, and heres why: Prototype has a new game plus, tons of powers and abilities to unlock, a bunch of challenges to test your skills, but is a bit shorter than Infamous, and the side quests don't have a story to them at all and are basically just there. Infamous is longer, has actual side quests with a small story attatched to them, is much more fun exploring the islands, and the story missions are funner. The bad thing is that the side quests are pretty repetitive (there are like 4 types of side quests), no new game plus so you'll have to get all those upgrades again, much fewer abilities, takes forever to get XP once you get halfway through the game, and the fact that enemies disappear as you do more side quests.

So Overall: Tie. Both very different games, and each good and bad in their own ways. If you have the money, get both. If you can only pick one, choose whatever you would like most: Crazy, gory, fun, or a bit slower and more focused gameplay and a story you'll actually care about.

Edit: I didn't realize how long this was until I posted it, lol. I was just gonna make a really short overview of both.

Nice overview. The controls for prototype could get kinda wonky at times and the graphics were pretty bland... but other than that, it was pretty solid.

Honestly, I don't understand all the debate. The games aren't even in the same genre... infamous is a TPS and prototype is a brawler.
