BeefJack writes: "But only if you are lucky enough to go to school in Waikato, New Zealand.
In three schools in this area, Microsoft are running an initiative that uses Viva Pinata to teach skills including group collaboration and problem solving. It is not just to do with playing games however, as in addition to being "forced" to play Viva Pinata, pupils also have to do internet research and blog about their experiences."

PS3 may LOOK a little bit like a grill, but the 360 FRIES real eggs. I thought it has to do with something related to cooking.

lol come on GEC, that was funny. I know I was going to expect some kind of RROD joke but that was hilarious.
@Obama
The PS3 can technically fry an egg too. And what kind of egg are there besides real eggs? fake eggs? lol

2 - Yikes, I know that Microsoft has been pushing Windows and Office in schools forever!
But now they are pushing their game console???
Funilly enough: "pupils also have to do internet research and blog about their experiences.". yet they cannot do it from the game console itself since it's the only console that doesn't have a web browser! Ouch.

Why do they need a web browser on the console when classes have their own computers and I'm sure schools have computer rooms. I'm sure they had computers for a while now.
I never understand who would browse the internet on a stationary console when they obviously have a computer close by.
Eh... back on topic, It's great to see that schools are doing this. I certainly wish we had a similar program when I was in school. When ever problem solving or group collaboration was involved, it would nearly always be something to do with maths. I would loose interest and have no fun at all. Kudos :)

Anyone else see the irony in fanboys flocking to a story regarding education (Lokiroo/Gambler). :)
I think these initiatives are great, there are so many things games can encourage in the classroom, not to mention the important factor of making learning FUN.

Gosh, I remember my 4th grade teacher back in 1994 Mrs Laster would bring her son's Sega Genesis to class and whoever had their homework done from the previous night and ready to turn in right when they walked in would get 15 mins of play time. She did it for the 1st few kids only, everybody else watched or would be zipping through their homework at the last minute, lol.
Who knew it'd be my own teach that got me hooked on gaming?! :)
Ah, but only the good kids could get to play, so you had to be a scholar like me. It was a GREAT incentive to get kids to get their work done nevertheless.
I wouldn't have traded my childhood for anything else in the world, the 90s were AWESOME!
