Ten 360 Games You Haven't Played – Part 2

OXCGN Writes.

"Time for Part 2, finding ten 360 games you haven't played but really should. It would be nice if there was no need to write articles like this and all great games got the attention they deserve, but a lot of the financial success of a game is reliant on their marketing budget.

This means if the game isn't a sequel to an established franchise or isn't being pimped at trade conventions (like the upcoming E3 for example) it will often be overlooked, so it shouldn't be surprising that these last five games in the list are all original IPs."

I didn't like TimeShift myself. Dark Sector started really well but got repetitive toward the end. The glaive was more important than the guns...but not a bad title for cheap!

I liked TimeShift and thought it was a little underrated. The time control mechanic is actually quite cool, but like the glaive in Dark Sector the novelty soon wears off. Yeah, the storyline is a bizarre mess and the time control aspect is not fully realized with the use of intriguing puzzles, but the graphics are quite good and the combat is satisfying with some spectacular explosions.

I quite enjoyed Dark Sector. It was a challenge at first to nail down the glaive, but once that was done I thoroughly enjoyed finishing the game even though it did get repetitive.

Seeing that the xbox360 has over 500 games (more than any other console). I wonder how they chose these? Multiplatform games? There are way over two hundred that are not on PS3. HEllo! This is a PS3 fantoys dream list (to put the 360 down that is)

Timeshift was great imo, better than dark sector, though dark sector was still ok. They're in my collection in the "games that had a good idea that ended up being used too much" section, along with fracture...

Anyway, nice article, except that I own like 8 of those "ten 360 games I haven't played" :-D

Timeshift's beginning and end missions were great, but the middle, in the forest, was pretty boring and repetitive.

2 - Great games for the prcies you can find them
I wouldn't have gotten something like Dark Sector at $100 when it came out, but if it's really cheap it's well worth it.

3.1 - I loved Enchanted Arms
Was surprised how engrossing it was.

I'm still waiting for the aussie release of Star Ocean 4. =) I've been loving Infinite Undiscovery so anything from Tri-Ace (and Tri-Crescendo for Eternal Sonata) is always on my radar.

3.3 - Really?
Not sure about enchanted arms.

But Viking and Too Human are definitely worth your dollars. Must be the Nordic stuff that does it for me! lol

But seriously both great fun, long playtime and some cool new ideas.

3.5 - I bought Too Human for 10 bucks a couple of weeks ago.
It's really freakin short for an RPG (8hrs), but for the price, it was definitely worth it. Every gripe I heard about was present, but not to the degree it was played up to be. The game had a ton of potential, but was just too short and unpolished.

Agreed.

Too Human was a great idea, poorly executed.

I didn't have a complaint about the length because it's meant to be replayed over and over, but I had a serious complaintabout the lack of randomly generated levels, particularly when you level up and the enemies become much tougher and varied.

Hopefully they can fill out the story, figure out what to do with cyberspace (Resident Evil puzzles please!) and just improve the polish. But I hope they keep the dual joysticks, I actually came to love that.

NO!!!! After Lost odyssey by mistwalker the next best RPG is Blue dragon also by mistwalker. Then FableII by Microsoft. Then Star-Ocen IV by Square Enix-triace. Then tales of vesperia by namco. Then Last remnant by Square Enix. Then infinite undiscovery by Square Enix. The last three depends on the kind of fighting you like. I liked enchant arms, but it was all by itself, and the first next gen-ish RPG graphics. It is not in the top nine.

Personally Ithink DICE's Mirror's Edge should be in there. A greatly underrated game, and an excellent game to test ones wits and speed. Which is what it is designed to do. Not run around killing as many ppl as possible.

Which is what so many complained it wouldn't or couldn't do . . well dah . . they are couriers, not merchs for heavens sake.

Didn't like it at all. The level design was completely broken and left you with trial-and-error gameplay since you never knew where to go. Having to retry the same parts of the game over and over grows old pretty fast. Less art direction and more gameplay would have made it better.

Viking: Battle for Asgard is an awesome game. I recommend everyone to try it out.

Agreed mate. The level design just became trial and error and infuriating on higher levels. I'm still yet to finish it and don't plan to anytime soon.

Hated Bullet Witch, but enjoyed Enchanted Arms and Too Human.

But I reckon the best game on the list is Viking: Battle for Asgard. It seems everyone who's played it really likes it, it's just that hardly anyone has played it.

Anyone reading this, GO AND BUY VIKING NOW. Awesome game.

The god-awful control scheme and the annoying death animation mechanic killed whatever desire I had for this game.

I seriously wonder if they did any play testing on this title at all.

7.4 - I wonder why Xbox 360 gamers avoided Too Human ?
Lots of reasons :
- people expected it would be an rpg, so a very long game, while it wasn't, it's just a HnS, something you're supposed to play through dozens of times, not something you spend 50 houyrs to play through once.
- people thought it would play like an action game, and that wasn't the case. The default camera was also a very bad one imo, the "HnS view" was much better.
- the storyline felt like the end of the game was the end of the prologue (which in a way, it is), that's probably why people felt it was too short, since the game stops when it gets interesting.
- the controls where not as bad as what people thought, but they lacked a proper tutorial. They were actually well adapted to the game and worked quited well...
- and finally too miuch hype and a stupid developer !

It wasn't a bad game, it was just "misunderstood" :-D

Actually, I liked the control scheme.. It's different.
It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do, it's good fun and works well.
Agree with the Valkyrie animation, though.

I still play Too Human every now and again.
Much funner with a friend, though.

9.1 - I just looked up the games on metacritc.
They're all around 70%. 7/10 is hardly 'horrible'.

It seems people just associated 'good' or 'decent' with horrible because they were surrounded by other big games that stole all the attention.

Hey mate, didn't youknow that any game that doesn't get an 8 or above is a failure now. . so why waste ttime even playing them if they get below 8. Jk btw.

That seems to be the dumb simplton view on many gamers these days. Games with scores around the 7 mark are still excellent games, A 5 is 'supposed' to represent a middle range game that's on average. Below that it's questionable at best. 7's and 8's are great games, 8-9's are excellent, and 9-10's are well above average (funny that) and worth the buy regardless.

SO a 7 should not deter anyone from buying a game. Many games these days get lower scores than gamers expect, and they are extremely harsh on new IP's. Not realizing that a new game is just that. An untried test to see how a franchise will go. Thing is, these days, some games are canned because they have figured out that they may get an average score of below 8, thus meaning they won't sell.

Several developers have tinned many games over the last 18 months because of that, some of then excellent stories and from the early looks, shapping up to be decent games.

Blame attention spans and Metcritic if you ask me. If I was marking a game out of ten then , yeah, 5 would be pretty nmuch average score-but then I wouldn't be handing out the 10's and 9.5's that sites do. Saldy, on most sites/mags 7/10 is now just about average and having played a few games that got a 5 or 6 just strengthened that opinion in me.

Some games that have got 6/10 have been totally broken and deserving of maybe 3 at best while in Edge I sometimes feel that 7 is a decent score which the give to decent games but then they spoil it by giving poor marks to great games(Killzone2 and Mass Effect spring to mind as ones deserving at least 8.5 from a harsh judge and would bth get 9's from me)just to get hits.

Also devs/pibs put pressure on to ensure 7's at the very least and as a result peoples expectations have risen to the point where even an 8/10 review can produce bile from fans these days.

I don't think that scores tell you mich generally and you can only hope to find either a site or writer that tends to share your opinion-otherwise the scoring varies so wildly that even aggregates are meaningless.

So while 7/10 SHOULD be a pretty good game the truth is it often isn't.

11 - IMO...
The best 360 game no one plays is Virtua Fighter 5: Online.

Best 3D fighter around imo, but doesn't have the flash or casual controls that other fighters have, so most look it over.

It's definitely more for the hardcore, so I understand why it isn't as popular as say a Tekken or a SoulCalibur. It's really a shame that this game doesn't have as much of a following here as it does in Japan.

I totally agree. Virtua Fighter 5 is the best 3D fighter around but not for the squeamish. Difficult to master and only the hardcore should apply. I understand why most people prefer the noob friendly games like Tekken. Challenging games usually send the weak to an easier option.

Soul Calibur is almost like game-pron ..a bit over the top in regards to female visuals though, which is to be expected from Japanese developers.

Any chance they can get to show a 'shorts' shot, they'll take it.
