It's still the most played game on my X-box! Every guy I know owns it and we still meet up on Live every Wednesday night and go at it! Yes there are other good games that came out after it, but it's the fact that EVERYONE has it that makes it so great!

That isn't saying much.. Halo's core gameplay is pretty weak compared to most PC games

I think my biggest gripe is the 30 frames per second, removing the Halo 2 glitches that made it take more skill, the slow game pace, etc.

It's so popular because it's good. Yeah, amazing huh. Halo 3 for instance has an addictive multi-player that keeps me and hundreds of thousand others wanting for more.
Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 are the best console FPS to date. You may not agree, but it's ok, you're entitled to your own opinion and so am I.

Halo is a fun game. Its like unreal tournament with a real story. I enjoyed all 3 games and I don't see why there is such hate for halo2 it was pretty good no assault rifle sucked but playing the arbitor was a cool twist that noone saw coming. Fun games I get the timelinemixed up sometimes though because they were so similar and I did not like 3 nor remember it well because I was too hyped and I felt that it under achieved but overall the gameplay is good but unreal is just as good and because of mods its more fun multiplayer for me. Rocket launcher one hit kills ftw! Now if Epic would like to go that route keep the third person boarding type stuff but make a real story driven fps then Halo could really get taken off of its pedestal because as a multiplayer game I had more fun playing Unreal and its frantic crazy fast pace.

and yeh for every screaming kid on the game there are also plenty of sound guys to play with. I'm sure a lot of people bought an xbox just for halo, i know i ended up buying an original just so i could play halo 2 with my mates online. I only bought 2 other games for the system

9 - Halo may be Fun but it's a game for Noobs

Halo is a Auto Aim Game with cheap weapons just like Gears. Halo and Gears are popular because they appeal to a demographic than games like Killzone , Resistance and Socom. Halo and Gears don't require you to have as good wee and hand coordination like Killzone and Socom.

I really can't understand how anyone could even play Gears. The players move so slow it feels like you are crawling.

No Auto gamers like me are now the minority so noobs can now claim Halo, Gears and COD4 are the best game around.

Here something no Noob gamer should be without and it only works on noob games like Halo, L4dead, Gear and COD.

but please dont diss call of duty 4.... a game with an engine that looks as good as that and runs at 60 fps and backs it up with solid single player and multiplayer campaign .. deserves the respect. but this is just my opinion

I take back my comment about Resistance but Killzone and Socom stands. Coming from my view as a hardcore No Auto Aim gamer . There is no console game that compares to Killzone competetive game.

Wrong, By slowing the game down and including Auto aim it only helps the less skilled gamer. If anyone of you have played Killzone you know what I mean. The game is way faster slowmo Gears and faster than Halo. It about the same speed of COD but the main difference again there is no No Auto Aim.

It's is truly a run and gun game. You can move left and right at the same time while aiming with the rifle. That is what I do and other really good players do and because of that you get really intense clan matches. The adrenaline rush you get from it is second to none.

You can't do that in COD 4 because the game is made to just pull the gun up and shoot or you can just camp and with your gun up and shoot. Moving left and right while still aming won't help you because of the auto aim assist will find

That is also why the Rapid Fire Mod Controller only works on:
Halo, Gears and COD. There is no kickback, just pull the trigger spray and pray. Auto Aim will do the rest.

and just for the record.. i have played killzone 2, i own it along with LBP and MGS4.

all i will really say, is different people like different things etc. like i said, it was when you mentioned Resistance 2 that i felt you were stretching it.

I can understand why some people say killzone 2 is better. on the flip side, i also own the 360 but i don't play halo 3 because there are a lot of gameplay issues i don't like about it. Halo 1 was my best of the 3 and i still feel the same.

I play Halo3 still very often and despite not being exactly what i had imagined it to be, it's combat exceeded both other games - refined beyond just simple new weapons etc

First one is still the most wonderfully epic but H3 plays even better regards to the more layered combat

I was one of those that felt rather down, the whole idea that the Chief might not no longer be

If anyone of you know the History on Online Gaming? auto Aim used to be Auto lock. Now Dev programming has gotten so much better they've improved auto lock on to whats called auto aim assist.

You all can cry about how good you games are from a casual gamers perspective but the fact remains the same " They are all auto aim games"

Why do I complain about auto aim so much? Because those games don't really test your skills. Take gears for instance, no auto aim but the game is painfully slow. a noob Gamers delight.
Think of it like this: Imagine Top NBA players like Kobe Bryant has to slow his game down for the other players. What would this do? well it would allow less skilled players to join the NBA.

And I have played Halo, COd and Gears. Half of my friends have xboxs and they are all noobs. Not saying all xbox are noobs but all noobs love there three games and why?

So no matter how you look at it those games will always be popular because they made it easier to play and in the process creating a whole new generation of Noob gamers that will say Killzone and Socom sucks because They've become so used to auto aim, they are either to lazy to adjust or they just suck.

If train your Brain by playing games that require good eye hand coordination you will never go back to games that have auto aim or that are so slow like Gears. Then again there are those who just lack the skill to play games that actually require skills

What really sad is 90 % of these guys don't even realize that they are playing a game with auto aim and just assume games like Killzone controls suck.

Great article, it tickled me for sure...

Im a FPS lover & have been since days of doom (pc and megadrive 32x), i remember thinking back then how can it get better than this, but it has, a whole lot better, being an avid console gamer and pc gamer and have done for many years.

I have played with the best of them...

Console FPS...

Halo combat evolved, Rates so high for me, where else do you know where you can get all your mates round, 4 xboxes, shed loads of joypads, get the smoke on, get the grub on and multiplayer agoooo. So many fond memories of this game, the smack talk, squeaky chairs (so you know know some ones clocking your t.v screen) Halo 2 and xbox live how can it get better than this, it Did with halo 3...

Now dont get me wrong, i love all games, i love killzone 2 not because the graphics but these guys put there heart and soul into this and it shows and i repsect that. Very very impressive, maybe a bit of a benchmark game but hey who cares when it's this good.

Then theres the call of duty series, many of you guys probably know but Medal of Honour allied assault was an infinity ward game so thats why that was way ahead of the time setting the standard for future war games, superb piece of Pc fps, who can forget playing the omaha beach landing scene, then onto the first call of duty although not as eye catching as allied assault, the first step into the COD series was memorable, cod2 on the pc was superb i missed COD 3 which was console only although i own a 360 i avoided this until COD4 which at first i played on the pc before moving over to the 360 version because of the huge xbox live community and the chance to play my pals at some competitive gaming.

As i said i love all fps and the ones that stick right out the most is the ones i have mentioned.

Im just a gamer and play all of these in the past present and future...

Pc. Black hawk down (plus add ons) Joint operations, Battlefield series (1942, vietnam, 2, 2142 plus add ons) Fear, Half Life, Half Life 2, counter strike source, team fortress, Call of duties (1,2,4) Operation flashpoint, Halo (made by gearbox, really good online) Wolfenstein, Doom 3, A.R.M.A. Stalker.

All these i played online apart from obvious ones like half life, some games are multiplayer designed like joint ops and battlefields.

Im not mentioning the console games, lol... All i know halo is one superb game, whether it's halo 1,2 or 3 hell i purchased crackdown just for the halo 3 beta. I rank high on some of these pc fps, am a member of a few clans im a FPS fan and i love HALO Why, because it's good.

Your entitled to an opinion. But no other game keeps me coming back. I think Bungie has perfected the FPS multiplayer experience with Theater, Forge, Party System, New Maps, Fresh matchmaking playlists, and just a great experience with friends over Xbox Live or playing Xbox Live with three other friends as guests. Great system in my book. That's my opinion, and until a game can deliver an experience better than that, I'll continue to come back to Halo 3's multiplayer. So IMO it's not overrated at all.
