Halo 4 to be developed by Microsoft Games Studio

There is a job listing on Gamasutra for Microsoft Games Studios' Halo team looking for an Animation Director. It's is not just one job listing. Microsoft Games Studio is looking to build a whole team.

This is not for Halo 3 ODST made by Bungie and it is not for Halo Wars by Ensemble Studios/Robot Entertainment and it is not for the totally dead Peter Jackson Halo Project.

I'm not sure why people think the next game will be called "Halo 4". It seems like an ignorant and critical comment almost, but I heard people who actually worked on the game refer to it the same way. It still wouldn't make much sense, seeing as how the last story arc was concluded. I don't doubt another game will sprout from the extended ending, but I'm pretty sure it won't be Halo[i+1].

I also think it's cynical to think Microsoft is just going to milk the franchise until it caves in. Come on, give a multi-national, multi-billion dollar company with millions upon millions-selling franchise a little f-ing credit.

A new engine most likely will be built for the next Halo

"Top engine programmer, Corrine Yu (described by some as the female John Carmack), has already left her former employee, Gearbox, to sign up at MGS while her husband, Kenneth Scott, formerly id Software’s art director, is also to join the growing dream-team. To round off the talent list, David Wu from Pseudo Interactive will be tagging along as a new MGS recruit. MGS head honcho," http://www.el33tonline.com/...

Cant wait to see what these guys will come up with

"Bungie is no longer part of the internal workings at Microsoft Game Studios, and while the developer's future games will for now be published Microsoft and released exclusively on Xbox 360, they now have a creative independence that wasn't there before."

http://www.1up.com/do/newsS...

1UP: For all the super fans: does this mean Bungie won't work on whatever "Halo 4" turns out to be?

Jarrard: Well we are already at work on another Halo game -- I wouldn't call it "Halo 4", but it is based in the Halo Universe and represents a collaboration between Bungie and Peter Jackson. Halo 3 was definitely not the last Bungie Halo game.

Oh really Bungie??

Surprise fanboys. Bungie's still gonna bring it on!!! : )

gamepro:

"Bungie revealed today that it is hard at work on a new title that will not be tied to the Xbox 360.

The news does not apply to the recently revealed Halo 3: Recon prequel, which is coming to the Xbox 360 sometime in 2009.

"No, we're not [tied into a specific platform for new IP]," said community and PR director Brian Jarrard, speaking to GamesIndustry.biz. "We haven't gotten that far yet to be totally honest.

"In theory we do have every means to go out and find the right ecosystem, the right partners, to align with. So who knows what the future will bring us."

I couldn't care less about Bungie. If those guys weren't able to pull a proper HD Halo 3 considering the 360 and PC likeness, I dont think they will be able to grasp the tricky PS3 arch. Sorry, nothing to look forward here.

Yes and Kojima could put MGS4 on the 360. Doesn't mean it's going to happen.

EDIT: They never said they wanted ot go multiplatform either. They said they won't rule out developing for the PS3 OR Wii.

That Gearbox Halo 4 story was a rumor and not true.Corrine yu as i stated above has left Gearbox for MGS and all the talent microsoft have aquired in the past year are rumored to be making a new halo game under the name SPAWNPOINT STUDIOS.

"As detailed in a job advert for a development engineer based in Redmond, a Microsoft team named Spawnpoint Studios is recruiting staff with knowledge of current middleware technologies such as Unreal Engine and CryEngine." http://www.gamesindustry.bi...

lol That doens't say anything or even mention the PS3. It says they have a franchise in the works that "isn't necessarily linked to XBox" meaning not Halo.

Who knows...you're very lucky if you get a Bungie game on PS3 too, that's all I know.

But I think this speaks for itself:

"Bungie is no longer part of the internal workings at Microsoft Game Studios, and while the developer's future games will for now be published Microsoft and released exclusively on Xbox 360, they now have a creative independence that wasn't there before."

I think Bungie needs to be removed from the Halo series, not enough innovation coming from them anymore. Microsoft, please take a page from the recent Batman and Star Trek movies and reinvent this series.

Looking forward to Bungie's new IP as well!

Didn't they recruit some of the people that worked on Gears as well?

But they still kept the huge Bungie guys like Frank O'conner and and some of the other founding Halo members....while bringing in people like Ryan Peyton from the Kojima team...this is going to be an All-Star team. Halo deserves no less.

6 - Not exactly
a huge revelation. Bungie has said that ODST was their last Halo game. They have other projects in the works. I think I remember them saying there is 2 more after ODST that they are working on. (at least one, but I remember them saying two)

Go back and read it again. They said they were leaving Halo THREE after ODST. That's more a reference to the lack of DLC after that point.

Yup... Bungie's words were that Halo 3: ODST would be the final chapter to Halo 3 and after that it would be cut off.

Meaning? They're working on a new Halo... duh.

Agreed, great dev. But how do you motivate a studio that's is sick of all things Halo? Do you risk your golden franchise on a studio that might half-ass it unintentionally? And does the studio risk their reputation on a game they have no desire to make?

8 - makes sense
they got ryan patton (mgs4)
and frank o conner (former bungie / halo lead)
heading the halo team at MGS (msft game studios)
so I doubt they'd keep paying to bungie to keep halo going when they got in house talent to support it.

I just hope Halo isn't the only game msft has that's hardcore while everything is we in the movies and lips type crap.

The description in the title is a little...well...wrong. Peter Jackson's Halo is only post-poned, as of this year, not dead. It happens in tonnes of cycle and games like Too Human come to mind, though Jackson is a mastermind of many arts.

Anyway, it's nice to see MS expanding MGS. It seems they're not going about just buying studios but stuffing talent into one force.

Can't wait to see how this unfolds, Halo is amazing.
