Factor 5 Animator Claims Studio is Cutting Projects

Developer Factor 5 is facing tough choices due to our bad economy, according to a blog post from Sam Baker, an animator for the company. Baker explains that after a two-week foray to work with California-based animation studio The Orphanage, he came back to Factor 5 and found that none of his fellow employees had been paid in the past month. His team continued on their current project, but then had their health care benefits taken as a cost-saving measure.

They did the Rebel Squadron series...which isn't my bag, personally.

As a matter of compassion, I'd want them to stay open for business. It's far more important that the people there have jobs to attend and employees are taken care of. But as a gamer, without playing anything standout from F5, I can't see any reason to have them stay around.

Factor 5, you were so successful, i enjoyed all your games in N64 and GC, but you made a bad choice choosing the wrong console and made the biggest Flop in History. I hope you come back very soon in another console with better games.

2.4 - More like
"Silicon Knights, you were so successful, i enjoyed all your games in last-gen and last-last-gen consoles, but you made a bad choice choosing the wrong console and made the biggest Flop in History. I hope you come back very soon in another console with better games."

(In reference to too flop and the great games that they made before, like Eternal Darkness, Metal Gear Remake, Blood Omen series)

"Namco Bandai, you were so successful, i enjoyed all your games in last-gen and last-last-gen consoles, but you made a bad choice choosing the wrong console and made the biggest Flop in History. I hope you come back very soon in another console with better games."

(In reference to the dozens of flops that have been released on 360, you know, Culdcept Saga, Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia, Ace Combat 6, Beautiful Katamari, to name a few)

"Capcom, you were so successful, i enjoyed all your games in last-gen and last-last-gen consoles, but you made a bad choice choosing the wrong console and made the biggest Flop in History. I hope you come back very soon in another console with better games."

(In reference to Bulletwitch, lag fighter 2 on XBLA, and the fact that Lost Planet and Dead Rising failed to attain "AAA" status after being so overhyped by Xbox fanboys)

"From Software, you were so successful, i enjoyed all your games in last-gen and last-last-gen consoles, but you made a bad choice choosing the wrong console and made the biggest Flop in History. I hope you come back very soon in another console with better games."

(In reference to the mediocre Enchanted Arms, the ports that they've made to 360 of several other games, and their upcoming lackluster Ninja Blade which is probably going to flop)

"Koei, you were so successful, i enjoyed all your games in last-gen and last-last-gen consoles, but you made a bad choice choosing the wrong console and made the biggest Flop in History. I hope you come back very soon in another console with better games."

(In reference to how Kessen was a much better representation of their success on PS2 and how their games suck now that they are coincidentally doint 360 ports and even one 360 timed exclusive)

"Tecmo, you were so successful, i enjoyed all your games in last-gen and last-last-gen consoles, but you made a bad choice choosing the wrong console and made the biggest Flop in History. I hope you come back very soon in another console with better games."

(In reference to both Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive being consistently outsold by the competing franchises on every other system available, and of course, every other fighting game being better than DOA)

"Q Entertainment, you were so successful, i enjoyed all your games in last-gen and last-last-gen consoles, but you made a bad choice choosing the wrong console and made the biggest Flop in History. I hope you come back very soon in another console with better games."

(In reference to how Rez and Space Channel 5 were actually good (didn't they make Lumines too?), and how Ninety-Nine Knights sucks ass)

That's not to mention Square Enix and Rare.

Anyway, perhaps Tatotiburon is a 10 year old, because Daikatana could be considered the biggest flop in history yet he ignores that. Same thing goes for Too "10 years in the making" Flop. Lair was overhyped but it wasn't coming from "one of the makers of Quake/Doom" or a 100 million dollar project of one of the re-makers of "Metal Gear Solid" and the makers of the "Legacy of Kain" series. Killzone 2 would compete with Too Human in terms of budget lost, but again it took less time to make and it doesn't come from an award winning developer, and it could end up being a great game so who knows. The only award winning developer that made a true flop on PS3 was Free Radical but Sony isn't paying left and right just for getting timed flops.

Enjoy your timed flops, fanboy.

3 - Bail out factor 4.5
WHy should they do that. Lair was a disaster, the most infamous video game this generation (outside of Denis DYack fiasco). They deserve were they are. If they didn't make daikatana 2, they wouldn't be here.

Lair wan't a horrible game it just had awkward controls and repetitve missions , I enjoyed the game for what it tried to do..and I would give it a 7/10..cuz I dont buy into media bullsh!it , I rather play the game for myself..

and I hope Sony Bail out Factor 5...

lets talk about Too Human that took 10 years to make..but flopped all over the place...thats a flop right there...

3.2 - Most infamous? No
That one goes to "Infamous" actually.

No but seriously, if you mean infamous as in low quality and at the same time overhyped, then Too Human comes first. Of course to some it would be Lair, because people love to hate everything PS3 related, but honestly, with an estimated 100 million dollar budget after being 10 years in the making, suing Epic games, getting a massive coverage at EGM in 2006 and being made by the developers of Eternal Darkness and Blood Omen, you can't fall harder than that. Lair was coming from a good developer, not an award winning one and wasn't a game with as much budget and time in the making as too human.

They bankrupted themselves; that game was trash. I'm sure Sony would be willing to bail them out, but they'd have to have some compelling content as leverage.

The game wasn't Trash , had lair went with the traditional control scheme instead of using the six-axis ..the game would have been scored better..

it's still a beautiful game and the controls aren't even that bad....just takes time to get use to...

5.5 - What a stupid statement to make:
"Lair was a ps3 exclusive, sony fans should have supported it by buying it"

Just because I own a PS3 doesn't mean I'm going to buy every exclusive title. I support quality, which is why I only purchase high quality titles. Lair simply didn't fit that bill, so screw Factor 5.

Sony lost more money on Lair for trusting on those guys seriously, dont think the game ever break even. F5 wasn't force to use motion control only as Phil Harison already stated a long time ago, which is why their 1st party games like warhawk has alternative option for motion control. F5 is too stubborn and think that there were too good and anyone would like the control right away. The game itself is also a problem as since its basically a Rogue Squadran game re skin with dragons. Proof that those game are very shallow if it wasnt for the Star Wars theme.

Or maybe the game was given a deadline and Factor had to work with the time they had.....which meant they couldn't iron out all the probs the game had..

Lair was suppose to be a launch game remember...Factor 5 made great games b4 Lair...and I hope Sony bails these guys out because they really did try something new with Lair...and it's still one beautiful game to look at

Lair was a bad game. There was nothing marginally exciting after about the first hour. The game didn't have any variety which to me was it's ultimate downfall. The motion controls only aided in the downfall, but the game was poo. Great sound and graphics, but poo.

If they had no choice, but to add motion controls they should have only used motion controls for the 360 degree turn (fling controller left or right), and to fly up fast or free fall down (tilt controller up or down) and that's it.

I would wait a little while then buy them up, and send them to aid the other development teams if I were Sony or Nintendo (Microsoft is to busy laying off it's own developers to buy one). Hopefully they could help bring Eight Days, and the other game back.

9 - People make mistakes, it's only human...
I can't even load the site but Factor 5 made the Star Wars Rogue Squadron Series that was great. The only thing bad about Lair was that they didn't spend enough time on SIXAXIS like Incognito/SCE Studios Santa Monica did with Warhawk. Plus the targeting system was a little weird besides that I think they are talented.

Look at Silicon Knights they made Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem two both great games. Now look at Too Human and the issues they had with the Unreal Engine? All I'm saying is that some companies like to take risks and the ones that fail, fall trying, get bashed on a lot. Guerrilla Games is another company taking risks, yet they are still reminded of their PlayStation 2 game Killzone that was better than people think.

All I'm saying is that not every single company trying something new will make it on top the first time around.

i hope this isnt the start of more developers going under.. making games costs a lot more than it used to last gen, and they don't usually sell as many copies either. something's gotta give, sooner or later :/

12 - I liked the motion controls
The game not so good, with its Horrible landing and targeting mechanic. The frame rate on certain levels was horrific. It did have its moments though, but that landing. OMG the landing was the only part of that game that actually pissed me off.

And every time I read that the motion controls were what killed this game it makes me wonder if they played it for more than 30 minutes. I seriously had more trouble with the shield grab off of Metroid Corruption than flying a dragon.
